The Tutorial Series was my 1st ever RU-vid video series, and I am still learning as I go. I make quite a few little mistakes in early episodes, but am slowly getting better :)
So I bought it, and none of the starting islands I've rolled have enough resources to level up craftsmanship to get palm fronds before you die from dehydration, heat stroke and starvation. Four sticks, seven rocks, and a piece of cloth is all the three starting islands spawned (other than plants) and you can't down a tree with a knife or stone tool to get fronds. Guess I'll just have to use custom islands to make sure I get proper resources.
Heat stroke and starvation should never be a problem. Go dunk yourself in the water in the hot afternoon period. Explore wrecks close to the island to loot crates and lockers. Being in the water cools you down. Craft a fishing spear and catch as many fish as you need in less than a minute. Collect as many fibrous leaves as you can find (palm saplings) to make lashings, and make your refined knife. Chop down ficus trees (not palm trees) with the knife. That gives you lots of sticks. Make an axe. Chop down palm trees to get palm fronds. Build a fire. Your raft has 3 rations. Eat those as needed. Those alone are enough to keep you alive the 1st day or so as they provide food and water. Hopefully find more rations in a shipwreck locker or crate. Once you have the basic things done, it becomes much easier.
Ok, and that is easier said than done when the island has no ficus tree, just palms, fibrous, and a potato. Only one cloth, two planks, and mineables. The only wreck is where my raft spawned and got stuck. I had to leave it inside the ship in the water on deck. I dont have access to the axe, it is locked behind a craftmanship level or two, so no shelter can be built. Seven rocks are all I got three times in a row and the wreck that I spawned on top of last seed only had a flashlight, flare gun, and engine part. The island has so many crabs and poisonous starfish I have to be super careful walking on the beaches.
@@nobodynothing282 I assume you are playing on console - that would never happen on the PC version. Try re-rolling until you get an island with ficus trees I guess. Or if you can start a game without the raft getting stuck, quickly grab what you can from the 1st island and paddle over to another island right away. That should at least double the # of rocks and sticks you can find.
Yeah, that was my thought. The raft thing pissed me off, was like it was in an invisible cage. Id get it near the edge, it'd shake loose from my hand then bounce around on the deck until it flipped over but couldnt escape. Felt like I was playing a Bethesda game, lol. I saw I need to make stone tools until I level up also. I'll try a different seed after work today. I really want a shipwreck home or mountain top home but probably can't build on them.
i haven’t played yet but i am soon. referring to the sleeping bag part if you die in the water after you pick up the sleeping bag and leave the island does the save still stay there or does it get removed when you remove the sleeping bag kinda like minecraft beds
You had me at caves if you can actually build in the cave, or wall up the entrance. Also does the console version have the cartography options? The game has terrible reviews on xbox, and Im not seeing broken glass, etc anywhere for building reflectors, or a wind driven sun powered light house using said reflectors to cause glint effects.
Yup, you can build in caves. I basically live in a cave during my entire Lets Play Hard series. Its also a newer version of the game and is still pretty much an updated tutorial as well.
If you don't skin snakes, but keep the bodies does it stop them from respawning? Also why not go double water catchers right as you find a second tarp if you need it for farming?
No, the snakes will still re-spawn. If you can find enough tarps (either in crates or from exploring other islands) you can have many water stills going at once. In newer versions of the game, tarps are gone and you find cloth instead, but same concept just using cloth instead of tarps. (This series was on an old version of the game - I have much newer ones on my channel).
Thank you for this, I’m terrified of sharks and I thought I could make myself face these fears (even though I’m a grown ass man of thirty and an army vet) but man does sailing and hearing the shark theme freak me out. Hopefully I can use these tips to gradually work myself to play the game the way i want to eventually play it! Thanks again!
I was totally expecting you to just point out the flaw in the rising and setting of the sun. I didn’t expect a very thorough and comprehensive explanation with solutions. That grid system idea is great
I got achievement "Magnets"(Escaped without using the compass.) and i used comass all the time and i got lost constantly, so this make me ironical bout game navigation. And i've discovered cartographer map in menu near the end of the game -_-". So my navigation was done first in sketchbook and then in cool program PureRef that artists like( and i find it super helpfull for memos and games)
4:15 wow 4:42 that wasn’t supposed to happen 5:37 oh no 6:45 damn 7:08 wo 8:02 lol 8:43 woe 9:15 damn 15:27 yeah 15:59 yyeah 17:11 ay 18:15 mhm 18:42 gonna go back the original island 19:37 damn 20:30 bam 20:49 wo
On PC, the world is now much bigger and the islands are now randomly placed, so you can't use the islands to determine directions any more. Everything else is still the same, and on console, I think everything is still the same as before.
