Close, she was 13, almost 14. She died two days before her 14th birthday in March 2002. They put the netting up at the start of the 2002-03 season. Her name was Brittanie Cecil. 😢

The mother moved out of the way. She said her reaction time wasn't great, but it was... she just moved in the opposite direction away from her son, thus leaving him exposed and vulnerable. Luckily, that guy stepped up and did her job. I pray for these kids every time I see them with a single mother. Smh.

Where was the motherly instinct to drop everything and throw your body over your son to shield him from an incoming projectile? Then in her post, it was like she was more concerned with hooking up with this dude and getting him to play step daddy instead of caring about her son. She basically threw her son under the bus by saying he was mixing up and causing a problem the whole game. He's just a kid. That's what kids do. Mix up. I'm glad the kid is okay, because the Good Samaritan was there. I hate to think about what could've happened if he wasn't.

The speed of his action was almost superhuman. Lucky little guy.
