A tripleheader during a special photo excursion organized by Carl Franz at the Strasburg Railroad on October 23 2017 featuring engines 89, 90, and 475.
Church bells are a sacred sound. The closest any industrial sound comes to the numinous quality of a church bell, is the wail of a steam train whistle. And this video blesses us with the sound of three different steam whistles.
2:30 GOD, that is such a good sound! And correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty certain that this is the first time any triplet of Strasburg engines have triple-headed.
JerryDoesThings Well what I mean is the engines that serviceable and operational which are #90, #475, and #89 are all up and running. #31 however is sill under rebuild.
JAM Rail vids oh... ummm..... yeah. little fun fact: did you know that they put 31’s whistle on 89? I kindof like that they did that in that 31’s whistle sounds superb (not as superb as 90’s) but i wish that they kept 89’s whistle on to keep it as historically correct (or in simpler words, original) as possible
JerryDoesThings I know. 31’s whistle sound third best after the CB&Q 5 chime #89 wore in 2015 and 90’s reading 6 chime. 475’s N&W hooter is fourth for me.
As a kid I used to record it with those yak back pens they used to make and keep it to play at school. The other girls had their lisa frank I had my steam engine
Janet Vonnik 😂😂 Nice! ive just always been attracted to trains (mostly steam) been going to strasburg since i was 2 and i am SO ANNOYED that i had NO IDEA about this until after it happened!
BACK IN THE EARLY 1900S THEY USED TRIPPLEHEADERSS ON THE HORSESHOE CURVE. NOW I WAS BORN IN'42 & MY DAD & GRANDDAD BOTH WORKED ON THE RAILROAD SO MY EARLY YEARSA WERE SPENT AROUND STEAM. I THINK AROUND '47 WAS MY FIRST TIME TO THE CURVE AAAND THEY WERENNTT DOING TRIPPLEHEADERS ANYMORE THEIR
