Moose are funny little things; you'd think they'd make more noise than they do, given their size. But more than once, a moose has been 10 feet off the trail from me (twice in NH and once in ME), just standing there and if I had been looking the other way, would've missed it. Hopefully, you'll be looking in the right direction to see one.
