Regarding extra cooling: would an app like FanControl (in full blast mode) have the same effect as using an external fan? Great performance review by the way! Thanks a lot! 💜 I love this game. And: It's nice to see you appear in your videos more often lately 🤗

Great video! I noticed that you were testing with the Steam version. Do you know if there is any difference between it and the Mac App Store version?

It hasn’t froze on me. It has played really well. I’m using the App Store version.

Guess I was lucky - I had no crashes or freezes at all (16", M2 Max, 32GB RAM)... Good FPS too obviously. I bought it again after already owning it on PS4. Gotta support Mac game dev.

I finish the game without any problems using m3 max with 30gpu cores. No overheat issues either with that version of the max chip inside the 14 inch.

@@jevgenitv gets loud at first when the system tries to cool down quickly. After 10+ minutes I notice it gets quitter.

I noticed those 2 bugs. I love this game and performance are very good. Hope devs keep the Mac port healthy with bug fixes.

I have looked up on the internet how to get pass this section. And I have have tried more times than I can count. Same results, dead cat. I am using a PS5 controller and Macbook 14" M2 Pro. I have given up on the game. I just assume the game is beyond my skill level.

I think games are optimized for M1Pro chips as a base, any non Pro chip will not perform smoothly

Sad that they didn't even put a small fan inside of the MacBook Air. It really keeps the M1, M2 etc. short of what performance they could deliver.

I also noticed that Stray after being sent to background, starts overheating my MacBook Pro 16 M2 Max / 32 Gb ram.. Its fans start running at maximum speed and it become so loud ((( Also, Stray drains half of 100% charged battery in 1 hour! This is the first time I met the application which can drain 50% of MacBook Pro 16 2023 in one hour.... Also Mac is insane for playing WASD arcades... because you need some additional actions keys for your left hand while right is on a mouse. Here is space used for jumping and Option as meow. But Command is so much convenient to press by you thumb while the rest of your fingers pressing WSAD. I really wanted deleting this game after first zurk run scene... So many times I wrongly pressed Cmd instead of Option (drop off zurk) together with W (run forward) which caused the game to be immediately terminated. The game doesn't allow binding mouse keys to actions even for advanced mice like my MX Master 3 (( I just several hours trying to escape zurks and not to terminate the game.. I guess Apple should think of disabling some shortcuts in game mode! Especially Cmd+W.

Played it on my 10c M2 air without any problem on 900p with nice fps. Since its already small screen I dont need higher res anyways

I’m really disappointed with MetalFX upscalling, it looks awful on games that use it (Resident Evil Village, Warzone Mobile and now Stray)

they should have put fsr since its open source, apple forcing their own shitty rushed versions to monopolise their ecosystem is ridiculous, there are enough upscalers already…

I think it gave a better showing in RE:V, but it seems clear at this point that it's much inferior to DLSS 2.0, Apple aren't machine use of their machine learning cores here.

Considering they design everything from hardware to software entirely in house, developing their own upscaler which conforms to their architecture and the direction they want to proceed in future is actually quite reasonable. FSR has more overhead and downsides compared to dlss due to its design. With proper resources and development effort metal upscaling will quickly catch up. Remember chatgpt came into our lives 6 months ago and no one thought others could catch up with it. Now so many open source models already started to surpass the gpt 3.5. Developing in house solutions which doesn’t depend on workarounds, increases complexity ordoes not sacrifice performance/efficiency is what makes apple and it’s solutions from hardware to software valuable. Look at linux, x11 is still not completely obsolete and wayland is still not fully adopted yet. Linux users were not able to use different refresh rates on different monitors, have variable refresh rate support or hdr10. Adopting a decent solution which works on the short run is why i prefer macos over linux. Also individual layers of ml models can run on different units like gpu, cpu, and npu together. Besides their current approach in the future they could probably extend their upscaler with a larger complex model which could use available gpu budget for further fidelity and such.

id say most of the problems your having are poor porting to the mac no optimized properly in other words so that is something the company needs to fix for sure

Needless to say, the problems with this game on macOS apply to Windows. It's obviously problems with the developer's understanding of Metal. And yes, I don't have stuttering and problems in the first scene on my PC, the problem is macOS and hardware.

Apple should release egpu for these m macs or at least start releasing macs with higher gpu cores instead of cpu cores. We can’t take advantage of 120hz screen if gpu is 💩. Sure better cpu is sth what creators wants more than graphics in MacBooks so extra cpu cores is what m max should offer compare to m pro. M pro chips deserve better.

Those GPU are quite great especially considering the power usage. You said that but most other users whine when they see the same CPU cores. Apple is doing good, Apple Silicon has a very high resell value, so you can resell and buy a news one with little money. Also they work so great because everything is integrated, so having an external GPU will lower efficiency and gain a little or nothing. Believe me I’ve been one of the pioneers in eGPU land.

Look arm tech is pretty amazing in overall battery efficiency with a decent power and temp. But dam a AUD MacBook Pro M3 Pro 16inch 3 grand laptop struggling tbh with high settings, not even mentioning Ultra settings. Apple keep talking about gaming year after year and I thought, M3 Pro ill get, it will hopefully hold decent power… Apple needs to really step it up in GPU power across all Mac’s, not just the pro or max

I freak out when someone says that a 12 to 25 fps is "unplayable". Man... That's totally the big whimsical boy syndrome. People played to games happily at 5 or 10 FPS when compueters where 16 or 8 bits.
