Absolutely. I know Charlie says that’s an easy thing to point the finger at, but I’ve seen so many real world examples in my life for it to not be the case in a huge number of situations. Parents who firmly believe their child can do no wrong. Hell, when I was a kid, everything I did was wrong.

@shapsugh1864 doesn't matter. It needs to become socially acceptable first before the laws change. One of the difficult things about these situations is that I see a lot of comments saying there should be an age limit before students could get a phone or have social media, I pretty much agree. But I have a little sister, far younger than me, she's in middle school right now, my mom won't allow her to have a cellphone until high school. But it's becoming more and more difficult to maintain that, because it seems like the school systems themselves are encouraging students getting phones at a young age. For example, she couldn't enter the middle school ASB unless she had a cellphone. She couldn't go on field trips unless she has access to a cellphone. It's really stupid, I hope we as a society will slowly come to realize the consequences, and make smarter more careful decisions
Restricting smarthpones for kids would be pretty much impossible in America. Parents buying cellphones for their kids represent a lot of money going to smartphone companies, so as soon as someone try to pass a law for that rest assured Smarphones Companies will lobby against it.

"Using your age as a shield" is something I've noticed happen a lot in fandom too, like people will wipe out "I'm a minor" as a defense and start whining as if they hadn't been cyberbullying adults in a variety of horrific ways.
that pretty much goes for the internet as a whole, hell everywhere. the amount of times ive seen news about teens irl (usually around asia) where the kids heavily bully or beat up someone and just get a slap on the wrist for it is sad. its rly easy to use your age as a shield, esp when your under 16.
as an 8 year old in the early 90s, me and my friends gave the finger to a random car. grown adult guy slammed on his brakes, got out and literally chased us into the woods. if we werent fast enough/knew the woods, he may have beat our ass. another time we threw tree moss at a car, they proceeded to follow us home and the driver, my parents and the police collaborated to make me think i was going to jail. (pack my suitcase, toothbrush, ect. crying my eyes out). it just wasnt accepted by ANYBODY.
I remember giving a chick in a car a middle finger walking to school at 10 or 11 and she stopped and yelled at us for like 10 minutes about disrespect. Then she said she was going to go to the school and complain. Had me thinking she could actually get us on something and nothing ever happened. Was worried that Id get called to the principal's office any time and my mom would be there. 😂😂

There was the case of a "Prankster" at a shopping mall in Virginia harassing a shopper. The shopper told the prankster to leave him alone. The shopper finally pulled out a gun and shot the prankster. Video showing the shopper shoot the prankster was shown to the jury. The jury did not take a great deal of time in coming back with a resounding "Not Guilty" for the shopper who shot the young man. Did I mention the jury saw the video of the shooting. I would think that should send a clear message to these clowns with cameras.

But, let’s be honest, did a majority of kids actually asked their parents permission. Edit: I want to add a little story about my life, my family never really had a family computer nor did any one in my family, we did however have that large tablet computer that ran on windows, I'm not what version it was, but for those who know, it was that windows boot up that had all 4 colors fly into the middle and create the windows logo. Either way, we didn't use it much since it was very finicky and didn't perform well. Not to mention I didn't know many websites other than cool math games or the apps that came with windows itself. Also most of the time I would forgot we would even have one. So, I didn't care at all to roam on the computer, I was too busy playing Super Mario Bros. Wii and Crash Twinsanity during my childhood.

So if you are a parent and you expose him to things like UNADULTERATED Tiktok/youtube you already failed, So NO you are WRONG.
The problem is if anyone ever knocks one of these kiddies out, it will be on camera and the adult will be the one arrested. The kid knows this. They know they are safe from any consequence. That’s why they’re protective of the phone. The only time they showed any fear is when she got close to getting the phone. If you could manage to get the phone, you could just break it or steal it and walk away. They would have nothing on you at that point. And again, the kids know this.
if you're old enough to understand you can use your age as a shield against criticisms and consequences, then you're old enough to know the gravity of what you're doing, and that it's wrong
The thing is, once you start assaulting people, it doesn't matter how old you are any more. It becomes pure self-defense. So even that excuse doesn't fly.
Same goes for women being physically violent, then saying shit like "you can't hit me, I'm a woman". Using one of your immutable traits as a shield for being a subhuman shitstain loses you any right to play the victim card.
Okay so not my proudest moment, but this happened to me in LA near Venice Beach and the kid was probably 15. He came up to us and started asking weird ass questions and sticking a microphone in our faces. Mexican kid with a broccoli haircut. He thought he was clowning us so hard, so I snatched his chain off his neck and started walking away. Dude went from such an arrogant troll to threatening to call his parents and started asking for help from the people around us. He literally ran over to the basketball courts and screamed that he needed help, and I mean screamed like a child. Anyway we kept his chain and I'm sure he had to explain to his parents what happened and he probably got in trouble and regretted ever doing what he did. The chain is now a ring lol.

*”They’re just kids, they’ll learn.”* I hate that excuse so much. When exactly are they supposed to learn? Kids should known more than anyone the difference between right and wrong because that is the age that develops who they will become as a person in the future. I never did that kinda crap when I was a kid because I knew it was WRONG! If you don’t learn what’s acceptable at a young age you’re not gonna know what’s acceptable at an older age. It’s not gonna be “they were just playing” when they’re 20+ years old.

Fr, in our age where people are getting killed over emojis or telling someone to stop vaping, it's just a matter of time before he runs into the wrong person.
If a kid uses his age as a defense to commit crime, he is obviously aware of what is going on. They should lose that privilege and be sentenced like an adult.
Sadly you can’t just say someone is obviously aware - only their word will be taken which of course they will say they didn’t know any better so your reasoning would never work.
Mm I’d argue kids know to the extent of that it’s wrong. What they mean by kids don’t know what they’re doing is that they don’t quite grasp the long term consequences of these actions yet. That is where a parent is supposed to come in and guide them. Unfortunately, these kids will probably grow up to be small time thugs.

I work at a middle school, and this is a huge majority of their attitudes. They know adults can't do anything in retaliation and they push the boundary to sometimes criminal levels. If you're going to have children, raise them.
The behavior is rational on the surface but all I can think is that it's not gonna mesh well with the current mental health crisis among adults. How many depressed people do we walk by each day that have so little hope that they'd think nothing of killing a child and their friends? I'd hazard a guess a lot more than we want to admit.
It becomes very difficult when the Gov sets rules for parents so that they can't enforce any useful punishment/consequences onto their own kids. Even the word consequences is NOT allowed to use in certain schools here. And no matter how bad the actions of your kids are... if you raise your voice it can be considered problematic and fall into child abuse. Basically the system in places like here wants to have hands off parenting and wants to create kids that feel like they can act out without any consequences. It's very sad and scary at the same time.
