Ed is super fun to use, but yeah, hard is an understatement for me. I've never struggled so much with picking up a character in any fighting game. I'm going to have to take him to ranked and work my way up from the bottom, because all the Masters in Battle Hub are tearing me apart.

Im going to take my time to learn him. I've lost a lot with him already but he's just to fun to play. I've lost a lot already with Manon and I got her to a decent level. So Ima stick it out him

As a rushdown Master Juri player. Picking up Ed as my other main was pretty tough. Did my placements and got put at mid plat. He also has a lot of tech potential in his kit, and the skill ceiling js extremely high. After a day of playing him now, I'd say ive gotten the hang of him a little bit, but there's still MUCH MUCH MORE to learn. He is either top 1 or top 2 most difficult to play in the entire game without a doubt.

I feel the same, I'm having too much fun. 100% my new main. He has some wonky stuff with he's AAs but it all works if you play like it's meant to be played. I love that he plays a different game, it's refreshing. Yes, he's more difficult than other characters but it's very satisfying when you start to get good with him. Great job Capcom, please more of this and more frequently 😂

Ed definitely has some weaknesses such as getting mauled and can't get people off him but he has so much tools to force people to be afraid of him and can prevent people from running from him or keeping them at a distance and he can choose when he goes in. It'll take a while before people can fully unlock his potential.

Great video, watched from beginning to end! Just picked up Ed two days ago and I figured I'd start here to get some direction. Good to know that I'm not alone in thinking how hard this char really is.

I think there's a lot of places for straight forward vs wildly complex characters. Honda mostly needs his moves to feel more integrated and Lily needs something to expand her gameplan, which I know you've talked about. Marisa at least has some depth and her charge versions of moves and interesting uses of her stance. But then you have Aki, who clearly needs her funky moves expanded for variety and options as well. But Ed's like some Dhasim level of wild timing issues with even more situational moves. I'm hoping season 2 brings in the SF3 and final fight style characters to the mix because this current season of DLC sure is rounding out the general gameplay options. Also, I'm super low to mid skill at this game, and your impressions still line up exactly with what I've been thinking about this guy. lol. His drive rush is solid simply because it has different ranges and tools than his other dash and movement tools. Just wild.

I really enjoyed Ed transformation from simple to technical character. For me, my boy is at least C+ or B tier for now but it could be change depends on what buff he got in the big balance patch especially for his stubby 4f jab.

He is haaaard as hell. I am dropping simple combos so much idk why. His rushdown latter and sooner punch to do consistently and all is tough mannnn

Personally, I love him! This is coming from a guy who didn't like SFV as much. And yeah I think he is one of the hardest characters to learn overall. Obviously, Ed has glaring weaknesses, such as slow reversals, but he is definitely one of those characters where you need to know how to lab shit to make him work. Take care, Vesper.

One thing I find interesting is that his raw drive rush options are overall pretty bad like your frame traps are unremarkable out of it, It feels like capcom specifically wanted you to not rely on it but instead use the long range buttons to get hit confirms

I wish I could go back to 2019 to tell you "Vesper! You're going to be an Ed main!" just to see the look of shock and horror on your face

As an Ed player, I want to put him as top 1 (he is my king) because he's so much fun! Realistically though, I think he's not as good as Luke or JP, but I genuinely feel he could match or place higher than Ken but it IS kind of early to call.

I really like what they did with ED, absolutely agree this character will reward people who main him from now on, so many things he is very specific to do......that actually is my problem with him, he is kinda confusing, I play Ed in SFV he was basic and fun, but here is kinda complex (not think he is AS HARD as Chun, but he is tricky for sure) his buttons confuse me, have to do sweeps with HP instead of HK, his jumping HK is weird as F, and his DPs are very situational as each level move or not......Iwant to see the Ed mains do their thing........but again he is tricky, I currently in Gold rank with him and been losing a LOT, I did the run from Gold to Diamond with Rashid so much easier somehow, same even with Manon......kinda weird a character with so many tools I feel open just for getting a button wrong, this guy will ask people to stay with him for not have that mental backlash pressing the wrong button in the middle of a pressure situation.

I love how unique his design and playstyle is. It's still very early but I think Punk is correct that this character will end up mid tier at best. Although he does have some strong tools he also has very glaring weaknesses too.

I hope the big balance patch will try to make all the characters have distinct weaknesses and strengths. And the two weigh about equaly. This is my definition of a good A tier character. No one should be like Luke now and not have any weaknesses. Seing how Rashid, AKI and Ed all have distinct weaknesses and streangths (maybe less so on AKI) I really hope these characters reflect how the big balance patch will change the whole cast. In before Akuma throws a wrench in this trend and only have strengths :P...

Don't worry, give it another weel or two and the ed players will dwindle. Him being hard will DEFINITELY make a ton of people drop him. I'm a longtime ed fan so I've been waiting patiently for his arrival, I'm not goin anywhere. But him being so tough will probably make him a lot like chun; Good but underplayed.

I didnt get the season 1 pass as im waiting to see if akuma makes it worthy so i cant lab vs ed. So a good video idea i think no one has done yet, with everyone and their mother playing ed rn would be a guide on how to play against him

Ed is awesome, boxers in fighting games are close range in your face characters but Ed is excels at full screen with his fireballs and flickers I still want Dudley in this game

Ngl watching high level players pick up Ed makes me feel like I'm special-ed I only have 1 basic combo that I can pull off somewhat consistently

Ed is making me realize that my Marisa complaint is real. Anti airing in this game because of everything that happens from DI, drive rush buttons projectiles makes it super hard. I feel like the only consistent anti air light DP. Anti air normals are not the way.

It’s cool to see he’s adapted to the rest of the cast of characters input wise but it makes me sad the fact that he was easier to play and probably my favorite in sfv. And my point is I have a hard time doing the dragon punch motion o controller so it was nice for me to press 2 buttons and get the uppercut… and no, modern controls are not the answer, pressing 4 6 times in a row is for bitches. I like doing my combos where I have to know what and where to do them. Well I guess I’ll stick with rashid cause yeah he doesn’t have dragon uppercut motion specials.

Ed's anti-airs aren't very consistent to be honest, his uppercut is really good but could easily whiff if the distance is off. His standing HK is probably what annoys me as not only does it require proper distancing but timing as well. In fact i have more success against jumping opponents by using jumping HP or LP.

You may have just turned me off Ed, and I played him in SF5. I liked Ed because he was simple in SF5. For his boxing style I would have preferred him to be more of an in fighter!!

I agree he's very similar to chug li. A really good character but really difficult to play. He's more fun to play but I don't see a lot of people playing him.

One thing I will say is he feels completely unique to the other boxing characters in the series. His strengths and weaknesses aren't the same and he's definitely the hardest out of the bunch to master.

I won’t lie, I honestly prefer how Ed played in SF5 vs SF6. Him not having his rising kick move is a HUGE downgrade on the character for me, as it was super versatile to setting up high damage. Something about how he plays now just doesn’t vibe with me, which is very disappointing since Ed was my main in V.

ED has modern features in classic. c.lp, c.mp, and c.hp are c.lk, c.mk, and c.hk. No overhead.

I loved Ed in SFV, i got him to master and loved his old game plan. They kept a lot of what i loved as a high level Ed player. Spacing, huge Anti-air damage when they get sick of being spaced out, in-out play style. But, for the love of god why is Spark a Quarter circle, i miss the old Input for spark so much, allowed me to have better movement and still be able to anti-air and cancle out fireballs. and why do i need to hold forward for Rush punch there is legit no need or reason why, why is crouching light punch -5? i can deal with all of it, but bring back old spark input.

Yes Ed is different, not easy to work with. Compared to Ken. I am a Ed main I SFV ,but here I am thinking of Ken rather! I would have to put a lot of time into Ed for sure! A lot 😢

So SF6 is the first fighting game I've played against other people - I started with Marisa and even though I like her I want to press all the buttons with good timing. I'm on Ed and holy shit damn fuck is this guy difficult AF especially for a novice player like me.

Yeah I heard Vesper talking about Ed not using DR as much as other characters.. well yeah he’s got a lot of range .. it’s like saying JP or Sim not using DR as much .. they don’t really need to play too much neutral.. they can but they don’t need to 😂 plus he can pull you in instead of going at you😂

Man I really dont get why people say ed is hard. I mean... KINDA but hes not hard like Aki, chun, or optimal Jp\guile. I literally just play him like ken. Fish for heavy punch and medium punch target combos into sway. Idk I also played Karin in sf5 and am very used to timing based commands like perfect tenko...

if Ed was 5 bucks I would buy him, from the hour and a half that used him with 2 tickets to complete his trials he seems super fun but not 10 bucks fun haha man I hate capcom's stupid fight coins system and obviously set up amounts to make u spend more then u need. He is the first dlc character that I seriously like to play.

So far he seems really strong like A.K.I when she was released; which means... only time will tell. Lol.

they did good with ed beside strengths and weakness flaws ed has potential just the person for the job once you master the use of dodge sway and everything else good to go it not me unless i put the work in it will be slow it will take me some time . i don.t know those combos that tough not best at complex style he looks fun pain in the butt to deal with if your using a slow character like me i think he does good with those characters least with marisa ed shutdown her down can.t do gladius because of flicker kick buttons the snacter as well standing hp to whiff punish can.t use superman punch ed dp beats it if the player got the timing down as for the fireballs too save superman punch catching lows or combos so i need to need lab and watch replays i do know od snacter loses to drive impact ed charge hp too though i can use my armor punch it. if i want to drive impact better for deep damage .

Simple characters isn't a bad thing actually. There are people with no experience in fgs that have to start somewhere.

Tricky and hard isn’t necessarily good, nor does it make the character fun to play. Everyone is different but having his style be so unorthodox kinda limits the character in an already heavily reaction and option based game

Lily is my main. I have played her the majority of the time. Then Ed was released, and I have been playing him. And this is me coming back to the game after 2+ months. He is, by far, one of my fave DLC characters that Cap has released in the 10+ years. But I cant help but think that these DLC characters are specific, and are meant to be that way, to a specific audience. The boomer audience. Each character in their own way. Until, of course, Akuma is released. He is one of the few shotos who is played by the loyal and casual.

I've been seeing a lot of play already of Flicker being abused heavily. It's looking like he's gonna be a problem for quite awhile 'till that gets toned down.

his gameplay is fantastic but I don't like his hair and I think they made his face really ugly but the ugly faces happen a lot in this game I think they leaned a bit too much into realism even if it's not resident evil or mdc 5 levels

For me Ed trials were the easiest out of all characters. Also this is not a street fighter character. Same as JP.

Ed is just low-mid. I don’t know why people expected him to be great. He’s not hard to play, he’s just not that good even if he is kinda fun. Ed wasn’t that good in SF5 either and honestly he deserves to be bad, he’s an extremely corny character and I can’t believe they gave us Ed instead of Dudley and Balrog. Embarrassing.

You barely know anything about ed after 3 days your just guessing. The only thing thats a fact is he is diffrent and definetly harder to play then most of the base characters.
