Actually really like the contrast between the yellow of the light leaks and the blue hues of the street. The ripping of film inside the camera has happened to me a couple of times too and had to do the same closet maneuver. It's always a good idea to keep a stash of black canisters for those accidents :)

My M6 did that before, it is something in the rewind knob that tightens when you advance the roll. I found a print out of the problem before printed it out and took it in to a technician and he tightened it for me.

Love it! I just got some scans back this morning. Every time I see them, it makes me want to run out and use my film camera more. I think the delayed gratification of what I was able to make is crucial to valuing the work as well. Thanks for sharing the funny (and probably frustrating) behind the scenes.

I just shot a 24 frame roll and I thought it was a 36 roll so I rewound it and ripped the film but I was able to salvage the shots and get some clean accidental double exposures

The first time it happened I had a feeling you forgot to dismount the film before trying to wind it back into the canister. This time, I think you accidentally wound the film into the canister without releasing the film from the revolving sprocket. Shit happens, dude.

Eric, dude; yes, I have so been there. I once shot a roll in my Nikon F100 on a wedding day, the portraits of the bride and groom - yes, their portrait session - AND at the end of the roll, the F100 froze. All the film was trapped and would not rewind. I had no time to redo the session because we were pressed for time. All I had left was my second F100 and my little N90. I think I called Josh Moates, Indie Film Lab, the day of the wedding (maybe I emailed him from my phone) and quickly explained. And you know what, like a true friend that I have never met before, he encouraged me to send the whole camera in (with the roll trapped inside) and he would take care of it. AND HE DID JUST THAT. The results from the film scans were spot on beautiful and the couple loved their images. If it weren't for placing my trust in Josh Moates and his team at Indie Film Lab, I would have tremendously disappointed a client. The team at Indie Film Lab is truly professional and great people to work with.

And bro, I've been there too with the film mistakes; I loaded a whole roll backwards on my medium format camera once (it is as dumb as it sounds HAHA). I love your honesty + comedy (esp that last second cough at the end). Time to CLA that M6!

Has this happen before. figured out I didn't push the canister fully into the camera before I started to advance the film. it caught the film at a slight angle and it got worse with every advance. Now I use my thumb to hold the canister in all the way before I even try and put the leader into the spool.

Did you buy your M6 from Tamarkin in Chicago? I had a black M6 TTL that the film would bind in and the back plate was not tight on. I returned it to them. It had a couple scratches on the shutter speed dial. Curious if it's the same camera.

Looks like maybe you got a roll of 24/27 shots and not 36? what you are saying in the video, like the jagged ends and all that. It’s because that’s the end of the roll. Just make sure how many shots are in each roll.

so true. I think the process matters so much. Ups and downs are completely normal. We can't appreciate the ups without making mistakes or going through some downs and yes. Ah man, takes me back to working in a camera shop, every other day a customer would come in with a roll of film and a camera that had got stuck. We’d go into the cupboard under the stairs and salvage what we could, these were probably the moments when a customer was most grateful. It’s part of the charm, I’ve not shot film for years, but this has reminded me how fun it was, must get back on it 🙌
