Very sensible words. Well said. I like how you don't blame bias in the media (which I do) but put the onus on the individual to take it all with a grain of salt. I do have strong opinions (always have) but am surprised in recent years how unwilling people are to debate with me. I love when someone has a different view on politics, religion, etc. but find when I engage friends or even family now, they get ultra judgemental to the point it threatens our relationship. Never have people been so darn uptight and closed minded and intolerant of diverse views. Disheartening, really. Not to mention intellectually boring. I hope it changes. The pendulum needs to swing back.
Thank you for saying this David! 👏🏽👏🏽 I wholeheartedly agree. I'd happily be your debating partner by creating a non-judgemental space for you! ☺️ Opposing opinions are healthy and I feel it's the very thing that creates progress. I feel the self-growth comes when you check in with yourself on an opinion that feels quite divisive for you. Discussing feelings here becomes important and healthy. Adding though that we should be careful when neutrality could be disguised as apathy and in turn hinders progress. Deeply understanding the other side is still relevant and incredibly important.
Ah, David, I do think the pendulum will eventually swing back. You can look back in history and see equivalent periods where there has been increased polarisation, and you can look back at periods of history where there has been increased agreement. However, unfortunately, I believe things will get worse before they get better. But, hopefully I'm wrong. Yes, there's a way to have a discussion with someone who has a different opinion to you without being judgmental or argumentative. Although, it seems that's a dying art. I can see why you'd find neutrality intellectually boring. You're right. Discussion can lead to understanding and new ideas. So, it can be healthy.
Great video Rob! I enjoy listening to your topics other than business, so I'm fine with you posting anything that's on your mind that you want to discuss. I agree that the people are getting more stressed and depressed and the pandemic only exasperated the ongoing situation. Regarding the political polarization in the USA, I'd like to know why to such an extreme that someone would hate another that has another political view and to add in the USA many folks are religious. And I thought the religious moto was to "love thy neighbor as your self". Am I just to naive to think this way? why all the hate? When you say "I'm attracted to weirdos", my interpretation is that you are just an outlier and not part of the mainstream population way of thinking and that you like to know both sides of a story before you make a decision about something, anyway, I'm speaking for myself as well. As for suggestions on creating more content, i'd like to see some work from home business models as I suffer from migraines and preferable would like to be able to work full time from home. If you already have content regarding my suggestion, please let me know. Thanks for sharing and have a great day!
That type of polarization that you see in the USA , happens all over the world. Not only in politics, but also in other aspects of life, like religion, social life, etc. In politics is usually a means to an end, a strategy, you know, "divide and conquer". I have witnessed this firsthand a few times (I'm no a politician, btw).
Hello Penny, thank you for your comment. I would like to say that I used the USA as an example. I think what's happening in the USA is happening everywhere else, however, what starts happening in the USA tends to happen elsewhere a few years later. If that's the case, then polarisation will spread all over the world in the next few years. I think that's already happening. I take your points about religion. I'm from the UK which is much, much less religious. And, yes, Christianity's message of loving one's neighbor is great. It would be great if more people (including Christians) lived by that suggestion. I think the hate is coming from poor economic situation combined with an uncertainties over conflicts in the world, and worsened by the pandemic and maybe social media as well. I've made a lot of content in the past about working from home and I have business ideas for working at home as well. The problem is: what works for me might not work for you! However, I'll try to do more.
Hey Alberto, for sure polarization is happening everywhere in the world not just the USA. Yes, politicians (as with a lot of humans in general) are really out for themselves. At the moment, if you spread a message of hate you get a lot of publicity and support, so politicians are incentivised to spread hate. I'm not politician either. I prefer to stay out of it.
