I appreciate this side by side comparison. IPA being faster but also more expensive and harder to get your hands on is important information, so meths is fine for most hobbyists who don't need it to happen as quickly. Also, it is reassuring to see evidence that neither overly damages the model, with only minor glue dissolving based breaks.
I saw a youtube video where he soaked in the IPA for over 24 hours. Is there a recommended amount of time for it? Usually people say 20-40 minutes but what happens if I leave it for longer
Have you tried Dettol ?. The paint literally slides off the miniature after a few hours of soaking and you really only need to scrub with a toothbrush to get the paint away from the miniature, not to actually get it off the miniature. It's also a lot cheaper and easier to obtain, in Ireland at least.
@@pray4plagues177 I forgot to mention, and thanks for reminding me, that after cleaning the paint off the miniatures place them in warm water with some washing up liquid in it then leave them for five or ten minutes to soak. This stops the active ingredient in the Dettol. After that give them a scrub with a toothbrush to clean out the deep recesses areas. You can put pure washing up liquid onto the miniature and scrub them just to be sure, then rinse with warm water. I've been using this method for over a decade and have never had any problems with Dettol residue. Also use gloves when handling undiluted Dettol.
