I was just given this plant- or should I say saved it from being thrown in the woods. I cleaned her up, put her in a new pot, I love her.

Thank you for this really helpful video Juliette! I'm thinking of getting a moisture meter for my Stromanthe plant. What should it read on my moisture monitor for me to rewater my stromanthe? And how far I stick my moisture monitor into the soil? Would really appreciate your help on this.

Hi Renee, I water my Stromanthe when the meter test results are is in the dry zone 1-3 Insert the meter as deep as possible without hitting the pot’s bottom. Test the soil once every 7-10 days: Green Cheers ! 🌱

I love this plant, but it’s a little more fussy about water and light than most other plants we keep in the home… I use filtered water as you suggested… city water, here is heavily chlorinated… It seems sensitive to this. Where is the other plants tolerate it..Has specific light requirements… It needs bright light… But any kind of direct sunlight even dappled seems to cause leaves to burn… However, with good attention, this plant can grow huge… Extending shoots/branches way up into the air… Worth trying if you have the patience…

Hi Stephen, Yes, Stromanthe is not as easy but I also love this plant regardless. It teaches me patience, acceptance and the need to pay attention to details. I have managed to keep my plant happy. The colour of my trio star backside is fading or the bright red color is becoming white . can you tell what the problem is ?

Hi! The color-changing can simply be a natural process. Triostar”s white color is one of the leaf color combo pattern. The back side of the leaf will appear lighter if the top of the leaf is a light color. Make sure your plant gets a good amount of light!!! Thank you for watching! 🌱

Do you use regular NYC tap water for Calathea type plants?

Hi Sabbir, Thank you for watching! 🌱 Yes, most of the time I use tap water. Also, in my self-watering planter there is a special subtract at the bottom of the inner pot (part of the sub-irrigation system) that filters water. You may fill up the watering can and let it sit overnight before watering your plants.
