I just came to say that I just tried twisting my hair with just grease like you said. OMG!!! The twists look so much better. I have fine hair and doing it this way makes it look fuller. I can’t wait to see what it looks like when I wake up tomorrow. I feel like I’ve been hoodwinked by all the natural hair products I’ve been buying over the years. SMH. Grease… who knew 🙂

What kind of grease did you use? I have the green blue magic and when I use it, the twists look great but when I take my hair down I feel like it's overly dry and just feels rough and more tangled.

@DoubleA-ou7pj Maybe that's what I need. Maybe the blue magic was too strong. Might keep that for scalp only. Do you remember about what about of grease you used for each section? Sorry in advance if I'm annoying you lol just been a long road and still trying to figure it out

@@Lashamalaya just enough to put on the hair. I am very light handed with products so I probably should have used more because my scalp and hair was kind of dry the next couple of days.

Everything about this was so educational. I’ve been natural 30 years and pretty much figured out what works best for my hair, but not always why exactly. Also being natural so long, when I first started watching you I knew immediately you love natural hair (critically important) and that you know what you’re talking about. So grateful I found someone I can trust to learn more from. Thank you!

Thank you for explaining the importance of using a detangling brush for detangling certain natural textures of hair. I use to think I was doing something wrong by using a tool because I would watch videos of 4c girlies with dense hair who swear by finger detangling only as one of the main reasons why their hair grew so long. It may very well work for them but it has always been a definite NO for me.

OMG Narada, I was not ready for the finished style! It's so elegant. I have thick high density hair and I love to detangle this way, especially after having left my hair in a style for longer than I intended. This method has my tender-headed stamp of approval.

Thank you, Narada! I have fine hair and this is very helpful. I have been doing most of what you’re doing but I probably could use a different brush. This so true. I have waist length hair and 95% of my tangles are as a result of one or two shed hairs that is stuck in the rest of the hair.
@LaiLai..
@LaiLai.. 8 месяцев назад
I’m going to try the pulling and separating technique . I’ve did it like once or twice but not consistently enough. I recently found a brush that works really well with smoothing my hair, and noticed it gets that shed hair that a wide tooth comb doesn’t.

Love your videos because they are so informative. I have- fine, medium to thick density hair and I actually do all the steps you demonstrated. I create sections and even break it down to sub sections, I spread my hair and gently run my fingers thru and not bothered that it takes time. The only thing I don't use is brushes. This is my take on the matter, I am very intentional about removing shed hair and because I do it twice a week during re-moisturization (semi detangling) by the time wash day arrives (1x a week) I have very little tangling or shed hair. I strictly adhere to this pattern, and it works for me, but I appreciate another take in the matter. Loved that you emphasized the purpose of the brush is to separate the strands, smooth it out and give it direction, whereas I see a lot of people using the brush solely as a detangling tool and not bothering pre detangle or spread the hair out.
@AfrikanHairGod
@AfrikanHairGod 8 месяцев назад
Fair enough that makes sense. In a salon environment it's not really practical to spend large amounts of time just detangling so this is the most gentle yet efficient way for me but doing what works for you is just as crucially important 👍

I'm curious to know: do you wash your hair in twists? And do you detangle after shampoo and conditioning with a leave in? I'm trying to find better ways to detangle without my hair matting or being dry in the process - I guess I have to detangle midweek too in order to make the detangling session on wash day easier 😅
@michelleeja412
@michelleeja412 3 месяца назад
@sOupira I thoroughly finger detangle damp to slightly wet hair with conditioner before I wash my hair and put in 4-6 twists. I unwind one twist at a time to shampoo and re-twist. And do the same for deep conditioner and lightly detangle. Hopefully, I answered your questions

4:38 wait, your clients don't have to come to your salon predetangled as long as its not matted? Also thank you for putting me on spray leave in as a means to layer under my stylers, especially the cream and botanical gel. I feel like it my fine hair gets less itchy and flaky at the end of the week now with creams; the botanical gels mix better and i can get more out of it without compromising my hair.

This is so helpful! Her hair is much like mines and my daughter's! Our struggles are freakin knots at the end. Seems like even after trimmin they are right back! Im wondering if its due to me twisting her ends after 1st braiding? I honestly didn't think we could use those brush types! I am gonna rewatch this!
@Kindred04

My hair is just like this young lady's, but only right in the front, crown, and the upper right quadrant. You are definitely telling the truth when you said that's the hardest to detangle. I have so much breakage in those areas, while the rest of my hair which has thicker strands and a slightly looser curl pattern does just fine. I even did a big chop once solely because of the breakage I had in the fine areas. No matter what methods, products, or tools I use nor how frequently I detangle, I always end up having to cut some of my strands where 2 or 3 pieces have decided to knot together and the individual strands are just too fine for me to get them apart. I have never been able to get the front, crown, and sides of my hair to grow out as thick and long as the back. I've been natural for over 25 years, and this has been a constant problem for me. The only time I didn't have to deal with it was when I had locs, and it's the very reason that I'm thinking of going back to locs again.

I have a different curl pattern than your client, but I can see that we similar strand thickness and her hair behaves like mine. I started using the Kazmalaje paddle comb to detangle my hair and I don't know how managed before. For real, a regular detailing comb does not get the shed hair out.

Thank you so much for the information. I have 3 heads (including mine) to do and when I used to use a much smaller Denman brush I thought it was ripping our hair out because (I thought) it had a bit too much shed hair in the bristles. I thought I was recking my children’s hair so I stopped using it. It just seemed like a really small brush compared to how much hair I had to do on each head. My stylist used a Denman and I thought they were ripping my hair out. I guess it’s the sound it makes. I just thought this type of brush was not for Afro-textured hair. That being said, thank you so much for schooling me. I really need a big paddle brush like the Denman you mentioned because the hair in my household is very very dense, and very long, and I want it smoothed out more. I’ll purchase the one you mention from your store and see how it goes.

Beautiful job!!! Your detangling method was with ease. ITA...most tangling is caused by shed hair. I wanted to know if this was done prior to shampooing or after? (I heard you say a thick leave-in was used so I'm guessing this was prior to styling.)

Thank you for making this video. Both of my daughters have hair this thick with one having longer hair and the other is about the same length as this client here. Detangling whether it’s a wash day or not is always a dreaded time for my girls and me because they are super tender headed and tears are shedded from time to time. Sometimes the entire time. 😢I try my best to not be so heavy handed when it comes to detangling but I’m trying to learn better techniques to make this lengthy process less painful for my girls. Do you have any recommendations as far as detangling products and tools I could use for hair like this?

Thank you for all the tips in this video! I will try your method of separating my hair by hand next wash day instead of the wide tooth before the brush. Fine hair refers to the lack of width of individual hair strands. Thickness or thick density refers to the number of hair strands per square inch of hair.

The individual strands are fine (like thread almost). But there are LOT of those fine strsnds on the head, which is considered high density. It gives a look of being thick a a whole because there are soooooo many strands.
