What is a "curly cuts"?
@AfrikanHairGod

I could've answer this question just like you could've typed this same comment in Google to get the answer for yourself. It's very inconsiderate to not try to educate yourself on a subject that has been discussed extensively on my channel more than 6 times in the past month. While this may be your first video that you have seen of me, this is the equivalent of walking into class in the middle of the lecture and expecting for the teacher to breakdown concepts that have already been discussed extensively. I can't simply answer this question because there's too much depth to breakdown for you to get context for the video content. If you plan to continue watching me, I expect you to meet us halfway and not spoon feed you information. www.google.com/search?q=What+is+curly+cuts&sxsrf=AB5stBhsR2QbpVZAuHukuEVXs3twO5L-LQ%3A1689200226201&source=hp&ei=YiavZNO0CfWp5NoP9Mm8aA&oq=What+is+curly+cuts&gs_lcp=ChFtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1ocBADMgUIABCABDIGCAAQFhAeMgYIABAWEB4yBggAEBYQHjIGCAAQFhAeMggIABCKBRCGAzIICAAQigUQhgMyCAghEKABEIsDOgcIIxDqAhAnOgQIIxAnOg4ILhCABBCxAxDHARDRAzoICAAQgAQQsQM6CwgAEIoFELEDEIMBOggIABCABBDJAzoICAAQigUQkgNQiAtY0xpglCBoAXAAeACAAY8BiAGfBpIBAzMuNJgBAKABAbABD7gBAQ&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-hp

Hey man....be nice I don't think that user was expecting YOU to personally answer the question, she's probably like alot of viewers when they stumble upon new content, they assume someone (ahem like myself who is an avid watcher of your videos and is currently growing my natural hair past my collarbone) to answer the question. Let me tell her, curly cuts is a trend that natural stylists are trying to push on alot of people with 3c and 4c hair and curly hair in general. It's where a stylist cuts your hair in it's curly state and basically hacks at your ends. At first the cut looks cute, and the person getting it is happy cuz they're sold this thought process of "since you wear your hair curly all the time, why not cut it curly and shape it so you look fabulous." Also, at first they tend to look cute, but cutting curly hair is very deceptive because curly strands/hair hides imperfections/flaws in any cut. This video, and the one prior, the guy narrating (aka the maker of the video African Hair God) is trying to show that curly cuts damage your hair and causes split ends down the road. He's trying to show us how healthy hair should look vs damaged ends. Hope that helps kiddo! 👍😜😍

@@hollistersurferdudesee I don't have time for all of that and then all of the follow up questions after the fact. I don't think what I said was mean nor do I think it's anyone else's responsibility to answer her. You did a great job breaking down the situation but what happens when someone not so knowledgeable replies with misinformation? People are lazy and don't want to do any leg work for themselves and then when you politely tell them that they should look up what a curly cut is, then they want to snap at you. It's easy to say that on the outside looking in. Yall don't see what I see or get the responses that I do. But I do appreciate you for breaking it down. If you want feel free to copy and paste to respond to the other 100 people here asking what a curly cut is but didn't bother to just type it in a search bar or even just educate themselves from reading other comments in the comment section.

We hear so much about splits and thickness at the end of the hair. It is beyond helpful to see a real example of how damage looks throughout the hair. Most of us don’t even think to look past the thickest part of the ends. The better we can identify damaged hair, the better we can address it and move toward having a healthy head of hair.

You just gained a new fan. Every word you said here was 10000% correct. I gave up on these so-called "stylists" over 12 years ago because I would either have to constantly explain that my hair wasn't damaged since I don't have a defined "hair type" or they always wanted to use some type of treatment or chemicals on me. It was so refreshing for you to explain that your healthy hair client doesn't have a specific curl type or pattern because I have never ONCE heard a stylist admit that & it was very discouraging to me; I've cut my hair off sooooo many times before realizing that this is just what I have. Literally every section of my hair does its own thing. This video felt like a big hug for me. ❤❤❤

All these stylists treat your hair as if there's something wrong with it or that it needs to be adjusted to something more "desirable". I recognize hair for what it is and allow the hair to guide me to what is suitable for it. That's what separates me from the rest of them

One of the "creators" of iamblackgirlcurls literally charges 400$ for her services and she specifies that her clients have to come every 3-4 months. If you go beyond that time period you have to pay the "first time curly cut" price which is upwards of 500$. It's insane! I get curly cuts, and I haven't experienced issues with them since getting them, and it's been about 2yrs but my stylists charges 150 and I choose to go to her every 4 months, she has said I can come every 6 months if I want to but I personally don't like going that long without a cut

Only problem I'm having is that I want to take my child to a stylist, cause it's a lot for me to take the time to do my daughter's hair right as a non professional. This is a grease and water, minimal heat household. BUT I DON'T TRUST JUST ANYBODY to touch her hair without breaking it, frying it, chopping it...

You are right bro once a year is the most to trim your hair if you take care of it. Most stylists are scissor happy. Im tired of paying people for messing up and chopping off my hair so I stopped going 12 years ago and ain’t looked back. My hair has been the longest and thickest it’s ever been in my life with my own regimen and trust I keep it simple.

Wow I’ve never seen hair like this. I’ve started listening to your advice and the improvement in managing my hair has been amazing . Now I see what healthy hair looks like and how damaged my hair actually is. I’m going to do trims often to get rid of the damage because I’m too attached to my length to big chop😂. Hopefully one day I can have a full head of healthy hair.

I'm dealing with this now. My ends never used to be this thin, nor my hair so weak in general. I see the tapering you speak of in my hair. I never used to have so many split ends. I thought it was just the stylists who were cutting corners in how they cut my hair, but apparently it could be my hair products too. I have just a little bit of hair milk from Mielle and some leave-in and styling cream from Melanin Haircare to phase out, but will grab me some Sulphur 8 anyway. It must be that we (or I) have introduced too much moisture into our hair.

Your message is the truth, when you go to most stylists with questions & concerns, they usually cop an attitude. That's why I stopped going to these salons, it's their arrogance, yet I'm the one paying them money. I use grease & water (no hair straightening at all, no fake hair or wigs) & trim my own hair. Its managed to grow healthy long without their "professional" help.

I came across your video, and I'm very impressed. It's very hard to find styles that do natural hair. I have a granddaughter who is multiy racial she has hair down hair back. 4C is her texture. As her black grandmother, I try to educate her mother. I do the best I can because she is extremely tender headed. Her curls lock at the roots. I just started using royle crown grease and water. I do her myself because I don't want her in the salon crying because of her being tender headed. I'd you could suggest any tips it would be great. Ms.M from Boston, Massachusetts Thank you for any assistance.

I'm all the way in London, England. I wish you could look after my hair. I've had to undo my microlocs because of not feeling heard or my concerns addressed when I noticed they were not forming well. Something was off and my instincts serve me well. The salon was also clueless about aftercare/maintenance with scalp conditions and I have seborrheic dermatitis. You're right about us taking power back as clients. We tend to leave or stop going to a particular hair stylist when we're dissatisfied rather than holding them accountable and telling them the issue. I'm guilty of it. Often they are not open to listening or rectifying things. Our heads are individual but there is too much one size fits all mentality.

Thank you, Narada! It’s feels so challenging finding a stylist who will execute so much care and a realistic approach as you do. And thank you for reinforcing the idea of simplicity. I’m definitely going back to that. What is your opinion on using castor oil as a sealant? I was thinking about alternating between grease and JBCO.

I've used it before using grease. It works great but grease just has more laating power than jbco

So glad I came across you calling out someone I had recently been put on to who would have me thinking that the way I have grown and maintained my 9 year old’s hair that is more than mid-way down her back is wrong. My knowledgeable hairstylist recently shut down her shoo abruptly. And I have been looking for a resource to help me maintain the health of my hair that she maintained with silk presses (late fall/winter) and faux locs (spring/summer/early fall every 6 weeks). Glad to have you as a resource while I have to be on my own until I find someone else equally knowledgeable who is actually into the care of the hair.

Thank you, my mom only used water and Vaseline on my natural curly hair as a kid and it grew, very healthy. It was only when I got older I used all those different products that damaged my hair, or going to stylist that my hair was burned out after 2 weeks of salon care, I have been afraid to go back thinking, the heat will burn my hair out again. Now I'm trying to get my natural curly hair to get back right, it can be very heart broken. Thanks for sharing, I wish you were here in Houston area.❤

I literally been saying for so long that my hair does better with grease and water. That's all we needed back back back in the day before all these trends started and our hair was healthy❤ edit: and let me add I used to watch you years ago but got trapped into all these hair growth trends and guess what. My hair wouldn't grow after that. But I'm gone back to the basics...thanks ❤

I've been a cosmetologist for 24 years, and u are so right. I do my own hair because I am not going to let nobody mess my hair up, period. In my opinion, these natural hair products are not good. I say stick to the basics because a lot of those products to me also cause split ends.

I noticed my crown has seen havoc from not deep conditioning/using leave in with the No oils/No butter method. I’m back to doing what made sense. Also. I use to trim my own hair when wet in sections - a dusting towards my ends when they felt rough. Using shears for hair. I’ve stopped that mess - as I didn’t see growth doing this every 3months - I received a hair cut my a stylist in December 2022 via a blow out . My goal is to blow out my own hair (with my invested Revair) and return for another trim from my stylist. Because I don’t have a decent natural hair stylist in my area. Thank you for your videos - Speak!
