Have always loved Stuart as the singer in Big Country, but didnt know what kind of personality he had til seeing a glimpse of it through watching his interviews. He comes across as very genuine, down to earth and possessed a wonderful sense of humour. RIP Stuart ❤️
I was there that night in Dublin when Big Country were supporting Page & Plant. Mark threw up at the start of their first song and the band went off stage. Stuart came back out on his own with his acoustic guitar and played the full set. He was a brilliant performer and such a talented songwriter. Sadly missed by all music lovers.
Robert Burns and a nightingale rolled into a vibrant torch of hope in the 1980s and '90s. His quaint accent alone is a gift from another time when poetry mattered.
His death is a footnote, his legacy is his music. Thank you Stewart, & the rest of Big Country for your amazing contributions. (I only became a fan a few years ago, which is a testament to how well their songs stand the test of time.)
Stuart talking Scottish is so beautiful and special. Really stands out from other musicians ..... it does something to me as a woman..... anyway, Rest in Peace dear Stuart, you were so full of talent, show you're talents above there now
I cannot imagine, or empathize with you on what you were going through in regards to depression Stuart as i've never been down that road, however i have suffered from panic attacks (anxiety). Mental health is something that maybe back in 2000/2001 wasn't talked about much, but it's important people reach out. It can effect both men, and women, though it tends to be men that it's effecting allot more. If anyone reading this then reach out, and seek the help needed. R.I.P. Stuart Adamson, a legend of Scotland, and the world on the musical scale, and a kindhearted man.
Really seemed a decent humble man -think he was very underratedand lyrically he really put his soul into their songs-first band really got into and he's missed by many rip Stu adamsom
1stb band i ever seen live, lucky enough to see them twice, once in Belfast, still the best. Seen them at the Glass spider tour Bowie did in Slane too, they were the support band but they stole the day. Miss this guy so much, talented and a real gent.
Stuart Adamson's tragic early death will always be a huge loss to both Skids & Big Country fans. I still frequently listen to both bands as I did as a youth many years ago. Their music easily stands the test of time. Stuart's lyrics with Big Country ooze sheer poetry. Their poignancy, scale of depth & symbolic imagery seems timeless! Both Stuart Adamson & Ian Curtis (latter vocalist with Joy Division), are right up there with the very best singer/songwriters of all time!
When I heard about what happened to Stuart, I could not believe it! He must have been in such a dark place in his private life. Suicide seems to be a selfish thing to commit, I feel for the loved ones left behind. PS, Just A Shadow is surely one of the greatest songs of all time.
When I studied in Oldenburg from 1996 to 2002, I watched the movie "Restless Natives" one night and I was so flashed by the music, expecially by "I will run for you". Never before music had such an impact on me. It took a while to find out what band made the soundtrack. It is tragic to see that Stuart obviously stayed in Oldenburg during that time.
Great band and top live performances. Shame what happened to him but I know what living with depression is like and how it can take hold of you. Loved the 80s great uplifting music.
Truly missed........our name is out...our name is known, our name is everywhere but who knows where we're from......don't look away....play it loud........gone before his time......respect.
The Crossing was the first album I ever owned. The music takes me back to some Good times! You kind of wish you could sit down with Stuart, and just ask, Why?
@Wasp Factory Ive been listening to a single song BIG COUNTRY since its presentation, your comments help to place humanity in the hit, post it, saying. Hope you find eternal wellness; my bias is that its through Christ
@Wasp Factory Ah right i never knew that. I know depression can happen for different reasons but i always thought forms of depression came on either by itself, or through abuse of alcohol
@Wasp Factory Well when i say forms i mean levels. Like some people have different levels of it. Some have mild depression, others have severe depression. So i guess in that respect there are forms
@@crs2385 Mine all time favourite song of theirs is 'Broken Hearts (Thirteen Valleys)'. I really love that one. However, Big Country released dozens of great songs throughout their career and their brilliant 1990 compilation 'Through A Big Country: Greatest Hits' gets played regularly at my place.
@@Swahy I would say it is because the bagpipes are jokingly seen as a loud obnoxious noise, and he probably felt that the comparison was more of a diss towards his playing rather than the reality of it being unique and intriguing. I love the bagpipes, so I definitely get how he felt insulted when the rest of the world insulted his culture for cheap laughs.
The only way is to take their pain from them, and it just isn't that easy. I wish, like you, that it were. I'm sure he still had MUCH to offer music lovers, but the problem was likely that he felt the world didn't have much left to offer him.
You should just keep it simple and enjoy his music. We live in a culture that knows nothing about death and people really shouldn't be assuming anything. Ya know why? everyone has to throw in the two cents about his suicide when he made such beautiful music.
What a straight funny man. Amazing man and band. Nobody's fault, but i wish he could have been saved from himself to live his life longer happy and content.
The Crossing album is STILL a staggering piece of work, I don't really care for anything else they've done, I can't lie, sorry. RIP Stu. Thanks for the interview.
How prophetic about what he is saying about the desire to reconnect with the part of life that he is missing out on! He would kill himself on the day his wife asked for a divorce and had begin to resume drinking again (after a decade of being sober). What a shame. A house of cards.
