Max explains how well you have to speak German in order to be understood during your time in Germany. More information about studying and living in Germany on www.study-in.de!
+Slade Eeyore It's not that hard, I know plenty of my own students (Americans) who've done it and all have done reasonably well, just a matter of being prepared and learning the language (Germany helps you with that). Also lots of other countries have free schooling, France, Scandinavia, Italy and Spain it's cheap, plus in South America most places.
@ALIZINNIA unfortunately not. What Lucia actually tried to say with that is, that there are various opportunities to learn German in Germany. Our advice: Ask your university for course offers or check the current program of the Volkshhochschule (VHS), which every bigger German city has. Best from Bonn, Your study-in.de-team
True, I have to say that I would love if somebody would ask me something in English bc I symply love talking to English speaking people. Don't ever hesitate !!
Are there any undergraduate Philosophy courses in Germany which is in English? And how are the part-time job opportunities for international students in Germany?
I'm considering studying in Germany for a semester or so, although it is a bit of a pipe dream right now. However, my subject is Illustration. Can you study art abroad in Germany? If so, does it have to be Illustration, or can it be any of the communicative arts? Also, one of my dreams is to become fluent in German (my dad's German, hence my name, but I'm a novice). How would you immerse yourself amongst other students, in order to learn the language, but still avoid making a fool of yourself? There are a lot of stereotypes about Americans that lead people to assume things about me, and I want to avoid that the best I can (I'm studying in Scotland right now).
Kirsten Großmann your subject shouldn't be a problem, by what i found out, communicative arts translates to kommunikationsdesign, which can by studied at a couple of universities in germany. the majority of us germans realize that our language is tough to learn and we are very forgiving when it comes to grammar, so don't be afraid to "make a fool of yourself" i still recommend to attend a german course since most germans, especially at university, are able to communicate in english on a decent level. if you don't speak german at all, they will just talk in english to you (same thing happened to me in italy)
Well, good question ;-) In this case you have to consider it's an informal situation and his mouth isn't stuffed while speaking. What Max does can be accepted among friends - but try to avoid it in formal situations as this definetely would be impolite. Best wishes, your DAAD team
Liebe Leute vom DAAD Bonn! Ansonsten: Weiter so!
@Ifrahalam Dear Ifrah, you should definetely finish your masters in India first and then apply for your masters because you won't be able to tranfer your grades just like that to a German university and continue your studies. Our database for international programmes shows you a list of all Masters programmes in Engineering. Pay close attention to the detailed description to find out what's required: daad.de / idp
HI bro ..... I am eager to study in Germany but i dun know which college to choose for Aeronautical Engineering. And is a chance if I get a full scholarship as u mentioned in a video of yours? By the way your videos are very helpful "Danke"... :)
@Kooshkff well, she never said she learned to speak like that in half a year :-). No one can tell you how long it takes until you can talk in German fluently because that depends on so many different things. Just get started and see how it goes. Best from Bonn!
Help, I want to study at the Media University in Stuttgart but I don't know any German except the basics. Would I be able to live in Germany and take German Classes to better my language skills before I apply full time to a University?
Dear Samantha, especially in bigger cities it is possible to live with only a Basic knowledge in German. Nevertheless, we highly recommend having a good command of German as it will support your socialising among locals and German students. Of course, you can come to Germany and take a language class first, have a look in our database to find suitable language courses: www.daad.de/deutschland/studienangebote/international-programs/en/?p=l&q=°ree[]=5&subject=0&langDistribution=0 For any further questions, don't hesitate to contact us again! Best wishes, your DAAD-team
Beste Grüße, Dein study-in.de-team
Hey! I hope anyone can answer me. I'm really lost! I'm not American, but I study the American system. My scores are pretty good. The thing is, I DON'T KNOW THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE GERMAN UNI'S for the American system! I tried emailing them, but they wouldn't answer! I think maybe it's because my emails are in English. (I'm planning on taking a German course pretty soon) CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP??! PLEASE?
hi DAADBonn, how kind and easy are Germans with a 14 years old? my school decides to send my friends and maybe me if I past the German test, will it be difficult to live there alone, especially in a young age?

Hi,we cannot exactly tell you, which language School she attended, but you can find German language courses offered at German universities on the DAAD Language and Short Courses database: www.daad.de/deutschland/studienangebote/sommerkurse/en/Best wishes, your Study in Germany team
She said that she took six months language courses at an adult education center without spend a lot of money, could you tell me please wich center is that? Liebe Grüße Anastasia
Thanks for putting up so much information here....However, I expect some more help from you all. I want to study my masters in Germany...I have completed my bachelors in English Literature and Mass Communication and Journalism. So, now, I want to do my masters in journalism or media studies in Germany. Please provide me some information on universities providing masters in English and the city I should choose....Waiting :)
Hi, in our database you find two study programmes related to journalism: www.daad.de/deutschland/studienangebote/international-programs/en/?p=l&q=journalism°ree[]=2&subject=0&langDistribution=0 By clicking on the description you will find all the neccesary information! Best wishes, your DAAD-team
+Chandan Kumar Mandal Hello Kumar, there are also many journalism and media studies programs in Germany taught in German, and it's not too hard to learn, you can pick up the language quickly because the German government helps you with free courses. I knew a couple Indian students who did this successfully, both of them right now in south Germany and both have learned German well.
Gracias.
@WishMonkeyscanskype no, you're not screwed. Actually the opposite is true because if you decide to come to Germany for your studies it will be much easier for you to settle in and understand typical customs much better due to your language skills. It's all good! :-)
Dear DAAD-Team, should we open deposit for about 8000€ to Deutsche Bank before we go to study abroad there? And how if we got a scholarship? Still we? I hope you will answer this, vielen dank!
Hi, yes, a blocked account with 8000 euro are one Option but there are others, too. See more Information on our website: www.study-in.de/en/study/admission-requirements/before-you-leave/proof-of-financial-resources/ Best wishes, your DAAD-Team
Hi! I want to study in Germany, but I would like to know if I can renovate mi visa, so I can study one more year there, and the requirements for that, what I am going to study is the high-school level (the one before university) I hope you answer, thank you very much! (From Mexico)
Dear Marcela, for detailed Information about visa we recommend contacting the German embassy in Mexiko: www.mexiko.diplo.de/Vertretung/mexiko/es/Startseite.html If I get you right you want to attend a Studienkolleg - information you find on our website: www.studienkollegs.de/en/ Best wishes, your DAAD-team
+miocinghiale22 Hi, unfortunately our database lists no such courses... But you might search for alternative programmes: www.study-in.de/en/plan-your-studies/find-programme-and-university/ Best wishes, your Study in Germany team
+miocinghiale22 While there are some private schools in Germany that do this (and they're still relatively low cost), your best option is probably just to go to Germany and do a one-year intensiv language course, these are very common and practically free, and your German will get good enough so that you can take the courses in German, which is the best option. Good luck.
@supertrex2 Hard to tell. It might depend on the kindness and politeness of the people in the grocery. Actually, some Germans are very nice and some are not. Yet, most of them won't bite, so it's worth to give it a try.
hi there everybody .. i got a question for you guys : is there any way to have a list of german universities that offer regular German language courses for people without a prior know knows ?
+Khaled Moussa Hi Khaled, you can find German language courses offered at German universities on the DAAD Language and Short Courses database: www.daad.de/deutschland/studienangebote/sommerkurse/en/ If you don't have any German skills yet, we strongly recommend attending a language course in your home country first, for example, at the Goethe-Institut. Visit the the website of the Goethe-Institut for more details: www.goethe.de/ins/de/en/index.html Best wishes, your Study in Germany team
+Study in Germany thank you very much Mr. max. I still don't know how to use this searching feature on daad to find the semester German courses for visiting/guest students. I want a semester long courses either in the summer or winter. kind regards
+Khaled Moussa Hi Khaled, you can select several features, such as language level, field of study and/or course dates in this link: www.daad.de/deutschland/studienangebote/sommerkurse/en/ and then click on the blue "Search"-button on the bottom of the page. Best wishes, your Study in Germany team
Hello! I would like to study International Business and perhaps work in germany if possible, I am from Mexico, but I have also Spanish nationality and I even got my Pass (EU), so I believe I wouldn't have too much of troubles for Visas and such? What it is stopping me the most (I believe) is the language (which I'm still a begginer A2~) and the lack of information!
@Tchaikovsky09 You would probably get along with a mixtur of the two languages in daily life and I don't think that many people would mind, but still I would advise you to possibly try to say everything in German - in the run long, it's the easier way to the mastering of a language. Also, you would risk that many people answer in English which wouldn't really be helpful to you.
Hi! Thank you for your video it was very helpful, I'm an international student from the Philippines planning to study there in Germany I'm reallllllyy really scared because I only know like the basic German and I fear I won't be able to cope up well with the others T.T it's really a major concern for me T.T
hey , iam hesham from EGYPT , I would like to know what i have to do to get an international scholarship in masters for electrical engineering in addition iam studying german in GOTHE INSTITUTE in EGYPT !
Hi, requirements for scholarships vary so you should first read the description of the scholarship you want to apply for. You can find them in our database: www.funding-guide.de Courses in Electrical Engineering you find in one of our databases, too: www.daad.de/deutschland/studienangebote/international-programs/en/?p=l&q=electrical+engineering°ree[]=2&subject=0&langDistribution=0 Best wishes, your DAAD-Team
It is possible to learn to speak German very fast....Koshkff...for me it took three months as well...the difference for me however is that I also speak Afrikaans...and it is Germanic...not the same but I could pretty much guess at some of the words and it sounded almost the same...so I had an advantage...
Hello, My Name is Fatima I would like to do English Law with German Law at University of Bristol (which is in England) but I found out that I have the chance to go to Germany and actually study for a year. Hi, I want to know about the differences between an FH and normal universitat in Germany, specifically about the quality of education, job demand, degree recognition. I am planning to study Engineering for my bachelors degree and I want to know what is the best option for me if I want to work in Germany. It would also tell me about the options available to study the language because I am planning to join a course that is taught in German language, it would be good if you could specifically mention some of them.I already have a pretty good knowledge of German. ( A2 level) There are several videos uploaded on this topic but they are completely in German, it would be helpful if you could tell a bit about it. I watched a lot of the videos of Study in Germany and they are very helpful. Thanks
Hi,as all German universities offer very good education, it’s hard to say which university is the best. On our Website you can find more Information about the different types of universities in Germany www.study-in.de/en/plan-your-studies/types-of-universities_26607.phpYou can find bachelor programmes in engineering in our database www.study-in.de/en/plan-your-studies/find-programme-and-university/?a=result&q=engineering°ree=24&courselanguage=&locations=&admissionsemester=&sort=name&page=1 The programme description informs you about the admission procedure and the requirements. For more information about learning German please check the DAAD Language and Short Courses database www.daad.de/deutschland/studienangebote/sommerkurse/en/?p=l&q=&fos=0&fee[]=0&sortBy=1&page=1&display=listBest wishes, your Study in Germany Team
3:16 A couple of coins gets you a big pretzel over there? Over here, in America, you can't get anything for a couple of coins, it takes about 1 pound in weight of nickels (5 cents) to have enough to buy anything! I'm not even going to mention how many pounds of pennies it takes to buy something. lol 40 years ago you could get a huge Hershey chocolate bar for a nickel, but now you have to pay about 50 nickels to get a chocolate bar that is less than half the size they used to be.
+Perways Hussein Hi Perways, for more information just visit www.study-in.de/en/discover-germany/german-language/german-language_41118.php Best wishes, your Study in Germany team
Hallo! Dankee
Viele Grüße, Dein Study in Germany Team
you can get around in germany using english just fine unless you find yourself in a small village, but even then you might be lucky.
+Marc Ramroop Hi Marc, passing the language test successfully means, you should be able to attend German taught classes. Of course there are always individual criteria that will make it easier or more difficult to follow the class, like how is the pronounciation of the professor and so on. We recommend asking friends for their experience :-) Best wishes, your Study in Germany Team
+Marc Ramroop I did study in Germany and still live here. If you pass the test you can speak and understand basic German, not very well though, basically the level you learn in schools in other European countries like Netherlands, UK, France or so if you take German class in highschool. But you will learn German rather fast if you are in the country. Go out, read German books/magazines/news, watch movies in German, date German girls, do sports (football, climbing halls,...). Avoid hanging out with other foreign students only to be forced to speak and understand German, get German friends. I tried hard to learn German as fast as possible, since it sucks living in a country whose language one doesn't speak. Depending on the subject you will figure out whats going on in the class. Like math or physics or so is no problem to understand what's going on, but it really depends on the subject, like CAD design was difficult for me, since they used Siemens NX software which was only available in German language, so complex software in German only was rather hard in the beginning.
hi I want to study in Germany and I´m looking for an online page or program where I can speak and practice my german, do you know one that could help me with this. I have tried a couple but they didn't work as expected. I speak spanish and english and can also help someone who wants to learn. thanks, I would really appreciate it if you could answer me back .
