I think if you invest in more gear to look at the bettermaker, wes audio, and Tegeler hardware that can all be controlled in your daw. It saves all your recalls and you can also do automation in the plugins to control your gear. I've been investing into this rather than those SUPER EXPENSIVE Universal Audio plugins 😆

Incredible, Barry. Informative and very enjoyable. I am filled with wonder, awe, and admittedly, envy, lol. I hope to one day build something even half as nice. Thank you for sharing! 🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥

You are right because we just got about 3” of snow ❄️ and it’s about 18 degrees here in Michigan so everything is wonderful for you right now so enjoy my friend because I believe that last summer my friend who lives in the keys now had his 26 foot boat blown over and the dock and his home destroyed by one of your lovely 🌀 hurricanes so I’m hoping that you too are staying safe and don’t forget your sun block and gator repellent and have plenty of boards for your windows and pray to god the next hurricane doesn’t have your name on it 😎 Be well my friend!

I'm both jealous and not jealous about your weather. I'm in the northern end of the Pacific Northwest, and we have about 2 feet of snow. It's a pain to shovel, dangerous to drive in, etc., but I also live in a forest in the mountains, and it's oh so beautiful, peaceful, and quiet. Except when I'm recording. Hopefully the deer like my music.

I was super disappointed in the Lindell product line of 500 series and got rid of my 2 EQ's and Compressor units. You might want to check out the Trident EQ 80B's, I actually have 4 of them now and they are super musical. Great video.

Really love your setup, Barry! I've been trying to go the other way, less gear. But when I see this stuff it makes me want to get a bunch of new gear! Thanks! Big howdy from ludicrously wet and still sorta weirdly not back to normal Ireland! ☘☮🤘🏽🤠👍🏽☮☘

Awesome video as always Barry. Inspires me to consider how I'll expand my home studio. Quick video tip - if you want to film steady B roll without a gimbal or digital stabilization afterwards, try setting your camera to 50 or 60 fps, then slow it down for 24 or 30fps in post. On my Lumix cameras, they have a setting to do this in camera called variable frame rate. Not sure what your Sony might have that is similar.
@BarryJohns
@BarryJohns 2 года назад
Great idea! I actually have a gimbal, but thought I’d try hand held. I’ll give your suggestion a try as it’s faster than setting up the gimbal.

@@BarryJohns Three points of contact works well for me - both hands and the camera strap tight around my neck. The more light you can get the better as then you can keep the shutter speed up relative to the fps. Keep up the great videos!

Great video. One of the interesting things I heard at the start was that quite a few pieces were “inexpensive”, “decent” and they aren’t used regularly. It seems asymmetrical to your other statements about not needing inexpensive hardware, especially in juxtaposition to the more expensive pieces you shared later. I would imagine that if they aren’t integral to your everyday usage, they are more for the sake of having them, but would also free up some money as well?

Nice video. I always like to see what other people use in their studio. Iv'e started down the road of hybrid mixing which is great. I have the WesAudio Hyperion and the Dione which I love! I also have a pair of CAPI v28 preamps, a CAPI 526 compressor and a BT50. The CAPI gear is second to non. A distressor and a BAE 1073MP with the Steve Stevens mod. All really good gear. The Avid carbon is nice for sure. I'm running an older version of Pro Tools (Stable) with a 2012 MacPro running High Sierra and an Apollo Firewire. I tend not to upgrade my software as the system is rock solid

I have some questions I would like to get more information on the business/marketing for a studio owner And what gear is really effective and important. Maybe you can do a show about it? 1. How do you deal with people calling you and the 1st question they ask is how much do you charge? 2. How to market on a budget especially in rural areas or What is the most effective way to bring in new clients? 3, How much is too much dollars dollars for your services, What is a good threshold of being competitive and pricing yourself too low or high?

8Pre is midi controlled, straight from Protools... Sort of what Apple and Apogee did with direct control from Logic ( Though in the ensembles case , Pre's and AD/DA etc).... That was its selling point... well in the 8 Pre's case...... Full control and recall within a session for example.

What is the model of the power regulator that you showed? I ran a separate dedicated line for my studio that’s isolated from all the other circuits in my house. That’s alone I noticed my console noise floor was much quieter. I have furman power strips but now I’m looking for a regulated supply for my studio. Also you should consider AudioScape gear if you’re gonna go clone. Thanks Steve

Interesting studio tour Barry. I'm curious though, your previous videos on Avid were not exactly favorable regarding Carbon and their licensing schemes (subscriptions), yet the Carbon is still in your rack and you actually said some nice things about it. So, did you change your mind or will the Carbon and Pro Tools eventually be going away at some point and if so, what will they be replaced with? I'm in the market for a "pro" grade interface with at least 16 channels and I am considering a Carbon or a Universal Audio x16 or two X8P's. I have both Pro Tools and Cubase as my DAWs. I'm a drummer and 16 channels is about the minimum I would want to get or even possibly go for 24. I've been enjoying your videos so keep up the good work!!! Thanks!!!

Did anyone catch the make/model of the power conditioner? I live in Alabama, which also experiences frequent electric storms, so I’ve started to worry about my $6k+ of synths and other HW getting damaged. I usually just unplug my inexpensive Pyle rack mounted power strips every tine it’s storming. I know next to nothing about power conditioners or where to begin to look for a quality unit, so would appreciate any recommendations.
