Studio Tour | Episode 10 | Clean up the Mess (Again) -

It's been a while since the last episode. I recorded a lot of videos on a shaky table while I couldn't get my closet to work. I needed to add power, and I still have noise issues. I also found myself in a messy situation between videos, leaving modules scattered around because I don't have a decent solution to store the ones that are not in a case. It's a dream to work here, but making one video every day requires me to clear my mind. I never work with plans or scripts. I just wait for creative ideas and work from there, often unaware what's going to happen while I record. I try to explain what happened later. So when something goes wrong, or doesn't go anywhere, I just start over. So I am leaving a lot of things to chance - or instinct. Anything can happen. This video doesn't have a real jam in a musical sense, but there's definitely a jam at the end. To be continued tomorrow.
The music is from my frozen Divine Comedy project. I composed it in 2015 and there were no modulars involved except the Roland System-1M. I will always remember the guy in the music store asking 'Isn't modular something for you' after I complained about my Yamaha Montage which I had no room for and ended up under the stairs. So I got the 1M. Nah. Not for me. Anyone know where I'd get a eurorack power cable for it?

Thanks for showing. Ikea Pax is a great idea and that noise box is awesome, alltogether not as awesome as your creativity and music!

I have an Ikea work desk yet I spin on top of a metal industrial table I got for free, and went to the Container Center for racks, because they hold so much weight.Oooooohhhh the Appleheads are going to get you for not having the holy Mac. That is a lot of nice gear there...

Yeah, I grew up with Windows. Mac is better for music production and graphics, but the PC is easier to customize and upgrade. I have an Intel I9, 64 GB of ram and tons of SSD storage, which would cost a fortune as a Mac Pro. And an Nvidia Quattro card for accellerated movie rendering. It would take hours without it. I also have a macbook pro for field recordings, though. But it always makes me feel like I am a computer newbie while I've been an ICT pro in a previous life.

@@CinematicLaboratory I have both and I use G4s and a G3,among other computers. Actually Mac is not 'better', it just runs smoother sometimes with the software being native and all the Macs made the exact same way.That was gone 10+ years ago and the only Mac I really want is an Imac.This laptop right here smokes the Macpro as far as cost/value even though she's not as cute with 32GB/1TB,etc for 1/3 of the price.On the top of the food chain in music it's Atari/Amiga, Nuendo/Samplitude, all the way to VCV2/CSound/MAX/PD/Buzz/Reaktor, and other titles you can actually dig inside the code with. That way we can keep using PCs instead of 'upgrading' machines and software. Now people like BT have full Mac setups, yet he has the money for those expensive setups.

You see, that really is a Cinematic Laboratory (panaural too). Most people have a spare room. I have a glorified shed. Some don’t even have that. I love my space, but it doesn’t mean that I’m not jealous…

I don't know whether to feel jealous or concerned for you 😂 kidding of course, you turn out fantastic content all the time so none of this stunning collection is put to waste. Amazing what you've done with the place!
@CinematicLaboratory
@CinematicLaboratory 7 месяцев назад
Whatever you do, jealousy isn't worth it. Since you're open about it, it's called 'envy', which is OK. This video made me realize this channel has grown out of hand with all that stuff. It will shift a little to making patches instead of presenting something new. So I share your concern. Since I am aware of my it, I may not be lost yet.

I like how you put the cases (I assumed unused for a session) on the Ikea storage shelf. I started doing this - I have 3 Eurorack 3HP cases I bring out and into the studio as needed to reduce clutter.
@CinematicLaboratory
@CinematicLaboratory 7 месяцев назад
IMHO, the limitation of a case helps you to make choices and help to create 'ecosystems' , specialized in a specific task or genre. But they all need to be useful on their own. They're like puzzles that need to be solved and they are much easier to use.

Thanks for the insights. I especially enjoy watching your make noise videos. These are very inspiring. Now I know in which environment they are produced! May I ask if the studio or making music is just a hobby? What software do you use for video editing? Many greetings from Germany
@CinematicLaboratory
@CinematicLaboratory 7 месяцев назад
I use Adobe Premiere Pro for video editing. I am retired, but I am hoping to develop a more professional career in sound design, scoring, mixing and mastering. But it happens when it happens. The music business is very tough and I have no network. But I trust someone, somewhere will need my stuff for their movie because he/she/they saw it on my channel.

Ah, that was you. I was about to get that one on Etsy to go stereo. Don't worry, I need to cut down the purchases too. So this year I'll focus more on the stuff we already have and go deeper with patch examples. My last Nautilus video was about a year ago. It almost seems like I never use it, which applies to a lot of modules.
