In the span of a few missions, the UED took down the Dominion, and then turned the Overmind and the Zerg Swarm into a controllable slave species. They were a far more terrifying force than a lot of people give them credit for.
Just one human fleet, with no chance of reinforcement or home field advantage, stomped both factions even with sabotage and internal struggles. Even in SC2 era, there are still small groups of UED remnants left stranded and work as mercs, which somehow are still better equipped and stronger than regular units. Blizzard really should of give them more love.
@@ShinigamiSamaH Not even a fleet, actually. Literally one battlecrusier and a few, what seem to be, dropship. Also we probably don't want "Blizzard" (Activision) to give anything love, it'd be better if these IPs died and we fans took the reigns.
I like that DuGulle takes a personal role in the battle in this mod. Makes sense since enslaving the Overmind was supposed to be his crowning achievement and he wouldn’t leave it to some nameless Captain while he watched from the sidelines.
Overmind: "Look at all these special upgrades! There's no way the UED's gonna be as cool as thi-" Mass Recall: "Here comes the Aleksander!" Overmind: "OH, FUCK!"
"Alexei was twice the man you are" Duran: Yes, and I am pretty sure he could take twice as many Yamato cannons to the face as you are Kerrigen: Haha, wait wha- *She gets Yamatoed*
"You may find that difficult you abomination, seeing as how I possess this huge ass Yamato cannon pointing at you" Seriously he could've just killed them both on the spot and achieve the good ending when they're on foot while he's riding the probably best Battlecruiser ever
To be fair, Duran would have just come back with his Xel'Naga bullshittery and Kerrigan can actually facetank a Yamato. Still would have been nice for Dugalle to at least try, though, since he doesn't know either of these at this point.
@@dracmeister that mission doesn't mention anything about duran being xel'naga, only that he's simping for someone else other than kerrigan so as far as only sc1 is concerned, there is no reason to suggest duran wouldnt just die from a yamato
@@dracmeister I am well aware of this mission, It distinctly, does not, imply that he himself is anything like a Xel'Naga though. It does say he's pretty old and that's about it, he could easily be some shapeshifting Protoss, some borged out Terran who was later infested or some ancient renegade Zerg organism.
had to look up the UED ending cutscene after watching this.... no UED campaign is complete without that animated cutscene of UED propaganda lol... Would you like to know more?
I did the same. Always loved how SC producers were such sci-fi nerds that they payed tribute to that gem of a movie - Starship Troopers. Great stuff. Might go see that movie again.
Just to remind, the UED expeditionary fleet was just a minor military force, its whole destruction was considered as a small setback for the Earth's military forces. And despite this, it managed to overcome the whole Koprulu sector in a short campaign.
While true, it's also fair to state everyone they were fighting were husks of their former selves, the protoss were reeling from the loss of Aiur, the Swarm (if i remember right) was trying to consolidate and keep itself pieced together after fighting said protoss and the dominion, and said dominion was itself reeling from fighting an insurgency from within as the external threats. Not to say the UED didn't accomplish impressive feats, but they definitely weren't fighting anyone at their peak performance.
>I love how in the UED campaign the units talk a lot, it gives them more personality instead of just being a number to waste. >Also it makes them look competent, outside of the Captain, they are no receiving orders from a leader and instead act on their own initiative, doing their part. >Is a shame they didn't recreate the UED propaganda cutscene, it was probably one of the best cutscenes in the entire game. >2:22 Mommy?
@@igor_kossov ...isn't this a military force, directed towards here by a board of directors formed from The United Nations...so unless every country right now is fascist...
@@KaptainMekaPere The fact that Kerrigan manages to convince Raynor, of all people, to work with herself and Arcturus Mengsk really shows how bad the UED must be. He doesn’t trust Kerrigan at all and he hates Mengsk yet he works with them to defeat the UED.
UED were absolute gigachads and it is unfortunate that they were defeated so easily, but I guess that happens when you are so far away from home. I hope we will eventually get SC3 with UED
Well it took all 3 races coming together to kick them out so I wouldn’t say it was easy. But UED definitely were a little over their head with how limited their resources were.
@@saulguillermoramirotovar3284 quite possible, with the change of teams they had, and how much the company is changing, I doubt that we will ever see a game that will not have a money grab and user unfriendly environment. No more RTS
@@thriftyultra4057 it is also worth mentioning that UED fleet that entered space sector Koprulu was a RECON FLEET. Not the whole UED army, not the main strike force. A RECON FLEET. A frickin' recon fleet came and almost curbstomped everyone in the sector.
If only starcraft was less of a dramatic speech game and more of "she is right there, shoot her with everything we have" the koprulu sector would be a much better place
Not sure why they turned her out of nowhere into a one woman army. In the first game she was a hero unit, with a strong melee attack, psi storm and invisibility but she still needed an army to actually accomplish anything on the battlefield.
Fun fact for all: The first time the Torrasque spawns on this level, it spawns with only 400 HP; half health, as opposed to its normal 800. On subsequent respawns, it spawns with full health.
The briefing music feels weird. DuGalle and the UED are definitely classical music aficionados, rather than the country western types. I’m surprised the admiral didn’t have someone shot for playing that over his briefing for his crowning military achievement.
It's so crazy to me that the UED could invade Char, dive straight into the Zerg, and take control of the Overmind, and still got crushed when Kerrigan showed up with some Dark Templar.
To be fair, Kerrigan was shopping around a lot before she dared to assault the Overmind. The Overmind itself was not happy to be a pet. And the UED fleet was divided between at least three planets, with only the Char garrison in any combat readiness by the time Z8 rolled around.
Keep in mind the UED also suffered considerable looses and a number of setbacks during its campaing and by the end of it its forces were somewhat overstretched. DuGalle himself stated were it not for the Disrupter they couldn't have gotten this far on Char.
"some dark templar" includes Zeratul who has been alive for millenia. I like to think he has good tactical sense. Char was also not at it's strongest when the UED hit, or when Kerrigan hit it. It was still rebuilding.
@@connorbroderick7148 Was Zeratul himself that involved in the combat? He shuttled in at the end to take out the Overmind himself if I recall, but aside from that he just sent down some Dark Templar to aid Kerrigan no?
@@Neyuun I just assume he giving commands from on high. In SC2 for example Raynor rarely is on site for the missions in Wings of Liberty, but assumingly he is still commanding his troops
"The defeat was a temporary setback; the loss of the expeditionary fleet had only a minor impact on UED strength" This is in Wiki. Imagine the full might of Earth...
That is because those Cerebrates that the UED destroyed do not have a fully matured Overmind to revive them, the Overmind that they are defending is still in its infant stage, so it cannot revive those Cerebrates, it also cannot even command the Swarm yet.
@@neotimekeeper6592 It's more like these cerebrates are the ones that are new. The cerebrates on Shakuras had no problem reviving when not in touch with Dark Templar.
@@eyeballpapercut4400 your point is also plausible, the thing is, it was not explained how the UED even managed to destroy those Cerebrates in the first place without a weapon/technology that is similar to the ones that the Dark Templar uses.
Man, now I want to hear the quotes from the Aleksander, if he has any. And also, is there a Rosa Morales unit in the mission? In her HotS lore, she was one of the 4 medics that applied the Neurostim drugs to the Overmind
Since StarCraft 2 came out I felt like it was very bubbly, a stark contrast to the rugged graphics of OG SC1 and even the SC1 remaster was better but these graphics are so awesome. What graphics are these? How are you able to play this?
He is playing a StarCraft II mod called Mass Recall, a mod that recreates StarCraft I missions, both the Original and Broodwar missions, using StarCraft II graphics, meaning that it is also in 3D.
Sometime later: So Kerrigan retrieves Stuky's body and revives him by infesting it with a new DNA formula, then Stuky escapes the Zerg and somehow ends up in the Nexus to fight all the heroes from all the Blizz universes? That escalated quickly...
He was infested by a cerebrate, then retrieved by Jim Raynor and cured by the protoss, reinfested by Moebius to experiment on and escaped them during a space pirates incursion, later recaptured by Samir Duran / Narud in SC2 to continue experiments and freed by Kerrigan during HoTS campaign. And then he somehow ended in the Nexus.
What i dont understand... Why was it necessary to build the psi disruptor in Braxis? The UED was in control of Korhal already. Why not to concentrate its position there?
I think that the old Cerebrates were being pumped full of energy by the old Overmind that got skewered by the Gantrithor - these ones don't have that safety net, so they can be killed like anything else.
I guess it takes a lot of energy and essence to ressurect a cerebrate, but when you kill a lot of them in short time, overmind just didn't able to ressurect them before he got stoned with neurosimulators.
The UED not sending in a bigger task force and utterly facerolling the Koprulu sector has got to be one of the must frustrating plot holes in the lore.
