"I have been in the process of fat adapting for 9-10 weeks using Phinney and Volek's guidelines. 57-year-old female, 5'6" 175 pounds. I eat between 75-90 grams protein a day, 140-200 grams fat per day, and 15-20 carbs as I am mostly carnivore (I eat a cucumber every day to help me feel full and sometimes avocado). I still don't think I am fat adapted because I am ALWAYS hungry. Everyone says going keto you have no hunger but that hasn't happened to me. Does this mean I am still not fat adapted? Otherwise I feel pretty good but my hunger is de-railing me by causing me to eat more fat and protein that my body needs and the weight loss has stalled. Any advice?

I honestly think this might apply to me as well.. I went from a super inconsistent dirty keto… then straight in to a carnivore cut…

I think also just upper protein lower fat would help because I know when I do higher fat I’m hungry because it’s drives my signals to eat more. I’m more satiated on higher protein

Exactly. Great advice, Robert. With my clients who are new to keto/carnivore I plug their numbers in a calorie calculator and shoot for “maintenance” numbers. Tweak after adapting for newbie’s or after dissecting BS and ketones for seasoned veterans who run into issues after a few years. But always starts with maintenance and looking at protein and fat intake.

" I still don't think I am fat adapted because I am ALWAYS hungry" thats because youre undereating protein, protein is the biggest satiety factor on carnivore also called "protein satiety", Fat satiety makes you nauseous. On top of that carbs mess up satiety signaling (of course if you eat minimal it shouldnt be a big deal). if we go back to the calories thing (i personally do not use) i see you dont eat enough like youre eating 2100 calories maximum. Where the average man (especially someone who works out its much higher) sits at 2400 (i find that unlikely even for a female its 2100 like the women described). perhaps your metabolism has been off. Id say up the protein to 150 ish and see how you feel. im a 6ft8 guy who is into bodybuilding and i can eat 1kg of 20% ground beef + 10-15 eggs a day and i still loose fat (so smth defo very specific about your situation that is not working properly). my protein threshold is 275g, anything above that and i start to retain more water and get constipation. excessive amounts imo can be problematic over months of time (elevating glucose a tad bit), but generally speaking from what ive read in studies (thanks to jonathan griffiths) is that the consensus pretty much is that its extremely hard for excessive amounts of protein to be problematic for fat loss. at one point jonathan told me he was eating 550g of protein (protein satiety made it hell like experience) and got even better compostion results. The main lever ive played with is fat intake (this seems to be the major lever to play with for fat loss). too much fat makes me gain weight, too little fat messes up my hormones and energy and just right enough fat makes me maintain body fat%. And i keep the protein fixed around 2.5g * lb (lean mass)
