Random kinda relevant tidbit of info; kansei service makes lowered rails for OEM seats for virtually all pre-08 subarus, I know you're not huge on how they look in the car but it solves the height issue of GD/GG and later seats. They're like $500 posted per side, but they apparently fit really well.
