Some severe-winter certified (snowflake symbol) all-terrain tires such as the BFGoodRich All-Terrain T/A or General Grabber AT2 would make for great tire replacements if you take your Subaru off-road and through winter weather such as this.
lol this is the very reason why I got a NEW mitsubishi Lancer SE AWC (All wheel control) -- with driver selectable 4wd -from 2WD, 4WD auto, 4WD Locked - it'll easy make it in this snow.. havent tried it yet but I know its gonna PWN. it doesnt need to detect slip for 4wd to engage. selecting 4WD auto ALREADY puts it in 4wd w/ set amount of power, it jsut dpends how much power will be changed.
Rain, hot, cold (excluding snow lol), n sunny is the 4 seasons. Im worried as i just bought a used 2010 outback n it came with new tires but they are all seasons. The good thing about the tire size these use is that there is awesome truck like A/T tires available. So im gonna see what happens on the first snow fall this year n go from there. I might buy a cheap set of used or steel wheels n then slap some A/T tires on them n switch em as i go. I fo a lot of miles so they'll get used up before they're dry rotted i know that.
@@todtalk3912 check out the Falken Wild Peaks AT Trail ( they even have the snowflake ❄️ mountain rated symbol) excellent true 4 season / winter and off rated tire design specifically for crossover / SUV type vehicles. A few good videos here on YT
@@NorthwoodsNomad thankyou, im now debating these, or cooper makes a really good a/t 3 4s (4s version is less aggressive type of the at3) tire that i have on my tacoma which they also make in this size. Although ive heard nothing but good things from those as well. Hankook dynapro at2's are also supposed to be decent. I will pick 1 of these 3 at some point. Thanks, because i really didn't think about those although i did know they exist.
@@todtalk3912 yeah check out some reviews here , they provide great traction and performance without sacrificing fuel economy as much as some of the other more aggressive tires , no excessive road noise , rugged sidewalls as well . Did those Hankooks come equipped with the Taco ? I’ll have to look in those as well . I have 2018 3.6R Touring Outback, it has plenty of power to turn some aggressive tread .
The reason why diesel cars are not popular in the stats is because people like you see the black smoke and think it is worse than the color less odorless fumes of a gasoline engine. diesel despite how it looks is less toxic to burn. I think it does produce more smog though. Smog is just visible gas not a measure of toxicity. EPA regulations are based on how ugly the cars exhaust is not how toxic.
.... following : Anyway the AWD traction, its handling in fast way turns and offroads too (heavy snowy included) make of it a must have car. Six stars in front, 4ever... but with a manual transmission this time.... :-)))
with limited-slip differentials it would be wise if you let AWD system to let it cool off after few attepmts off trying to move in tricky situations, so that your car will function long time after without premature burn in limited slip-diffrential. It is like a screw type mechanism that slip a bit but persistant long slip will raise temp at once and breakdown right at the spot.
Just turn the vehicle stability control system off and the Outback will perform much better at low speeds in the snow. (Button is located to the lower left of the steering wheel) Even with the ContiPro tires.
At least it got going. in the UK that would have summer tyres on and not move at all. thats why all hell breaks loose even when we just get a little bit of snow
I have had a lot of experience with the new CVT tranny in the Outbacks. Once you are up to speed it is okay. However, if you plan to pull out in front of anyone then be prepared to poop! Compared to the Forester (which has a sluggish 4 speed automatic) the CVT has even more lag off the line and it takes a few seconds before it can really put any power down to the ground. I like a normal trans with gears and most people would agree. But test it for yourself. Hope this helps.
seems like another dude who bought an outback cause of the badge AWD and doesnt understand the basic mechanics of tires and offroad. A lot of outback owners are like this. Some are not and understand that all terrain tires or winter tires or mud tires are better suited for their application where they were designed for rather than all weather shits.
Hi guys, i have a MY05 2.5 Outback (AT trans with robotized gearbox- 4 speed.... unbelievable in 2005 to still have a so poor gears choice, but it is) and i had experienced from the beginning this kind of "poop" you describe... and it is awfull!!! you immediantly understand that you can't count on your car. with the time spending you learn how to reveal your gearbox (and engine), but is is very frustrating sometimes. will follow......
My front wheel drive car with traction control and winter tires seem to perform better than that or at least not significantly worst. Quality winter tires rock!
I see Subaru are still using the same crap part time 4WD system in the Auto transmissions. If you what the video carefully you can see the front end spinning, then you see the rear end drive for a few seconds before it drops out before reengaging. My 07 Outback used to do the same thing, bloody dangerous on steep gravel covered slopes having the rear drive switching in and out.
Too bad that they don't offer boxer diesel here in US. Sounds like a perfect engine, despite my hate for diesel fumes and black smoke coming out of a pipe sooner than later from every diesel engine. All this talking about how new diesel engines are clean is a plain BS. I see newer VW's, BMW's or Mercedes's smoking bad or even rear bumpers around the exhaust pipe black from the sot. Worst than diesel are old gasoline chryslers...If it's still driving after 10 years - it's smoking like crazy lol
Those Contis don't appear to rate to well on snow and ice: www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Continental&tireModel=ContiProContact This is typical of the A/S tires that Subaru generally and annoyingly puts on as OEM tires. They traditionally pick some of the crummiest all-season tires and put them on all their cars. Now if they'd pick something like this... www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Michelin&tireModel=Premier+A%2FS ...things might go much better for new owners who can't or won't store a spare set of winter tires & wheels. There is a big difference between really good A/S tires and crummy ones. Yes nothing beats dedicated winter tires, but great A/S tires do beat junky A/S tires for winter driving.
2015 Forester's stock tires are even worse. www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Yokohama&tireModel=Geolandar+G91F&partnum=26HR7GEOHT Probably, driving with this set of winter tires throughout the year would be far better than using those stock tires. www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Bridgestone&tireModel=Blizzak+WS80&partnum=165TR7WS80 It's funny to see stock tires have nothing better than this, even in the field of dry traction, steering response, and tread wear.
Like i say to other outback owners. subaru may have great awd but they design the car to have shity tires. Thats why i have 235/60r16 on my 2005 outback. ALL terrain tires I have. I wouldnt get stuck or hesitate like this outback did in the beginning with my outback's new tires.
During winter conditions a narrower tire is better yes. For all season purposes is the reason why I have the size I do and because it is a light truck tire designed for offroad/onroad all around driving which is basically what the outback is. A car that handles pretty much everything but nothing to extreme in any one category. Any dedicated winter tire will beat an all season tire. But I am not going into 41242143 feet of snow nor am I offroading during winter so having a dedicated winter is not what I need. Tires, all about what you expect to drive in and based on what you need. You wouldnt have on beach sandals and go rock climbing. But with a semi rugged shoe or hiking shoe one can go to the beach, climb a little bit, go through puddles etc. same deal with car tires.
MITSUBISHI LANCER WILL NEVER MATCH A SUBARU, THE DRIVER IN THIS VIDEO JUST HAD A POOR CHOICE IN TIRE SELECTION. ALL SEASON TIRES GET BRITTLE AND HARD IN COLD WEATHER AND DO NOT HAVE A GOOD GRIP. WINTER TIRES ARE SOFTER AND WILL GIVE A MUCH BETTER PERFORMANCE. YOU WOULD NOT HAVE SOUNDESIGN SPEAKERS (ULTRA CHEAP SHIT) ON A MCINTOSH AMPLIFIER ($ 4-5K'S), WOULD CHA ??
Intrepid Milotic-Actually for the price of the vehicle it's one of the best awd systems thats affordable and reliable. The knucklehead thats driving forgot to turn off the vehicle dynamics control (aka traction control).
испортили субару совсем.. Чуется "рука" тойоты - напихали тупой электроники, а верхом дибилизма была идея еще и вариатор в субарь запихать!! Кошмар! Позор! Это не субарь..
