She made a power move here, tried to make him beg her for what SHE wanted. But he saw through it, bluffed about selling, and won. Fantastic scene.

Logan is different league. Shiv isn't as smart as she thinks she is. Same with Kendall. Roman is the one to watch.

@@SamSam-xw5lh Roman has the intuition but not the grit to stand his ground under pressure (but he tries). Kendall is book smart and calculating, but doesn't have the killer in him by nature like Logan. Shiv is very articulate and indeed smart but Logan is right, she doesn't want to compete. Tom having issues with Shiv might change her, Kendall is becoming a killer and Roman most def is growing as a person by doing the trainings, being held captive and working with Gerri. And Connor Roy was interested in politics from a very young age.

I think Logan has a god complex and is just playing Shiv. He doesn’t really believe any of his kids could run his company. But didn’t like how Shiv choose politics instead of his company. So now he’s dangling CEO position in front of her.... idk this show is so complex and the characters are so layered there’s so many explanations for every scene. Ughh I love this show

Shiv is smart and ruthless, just like Logan. Her problem is that she wants the job without having to actually step up and take responsibility/get her hands dirty when she needs to.

Ewan Andris I don't think he was playing her. He was testing her and she failed on several occasions. After he asked her if she wants the job, he gives her several opportunities to take action, but she just puts her hands up and says "it's not my problem, I'm not in the company" .. and you can actually see Logan sigh and subtly shake his head in disappointment

When you spend your life trying to get your parent’s approval and they finally give it, well, it’s so easy to let yourself believe they really mean it. She stopped seeing him as Logan Roy, CEO and more as Logan Roy, her dad. And Logan let her believe it because it suited his interests best. When he says, “Shiv, why so angry?” He’s gaslighting her, making her think that she’s out of line for thinking he’s playing her against Ken, when in reality, that’s exactly what he’s doing in the scene: playing Shiv and her brothers against each other.

It's incredible she pitches the idea to "lose news" and then believes she would be chosen. There was always a zero percent chance Logan would approve of that in the succession plan-news is the most consistent and reliable media business imaginable, and the sector of Logan's company that he's most proud of, by far.

News doesn't make much money, especially the last 10 years, which was her point. Companies hold on to news for political reasons, which she is against thus making her decision logical from her standpoint.

This was a test, shiv failed. He wanted to see if she was a "killer" . 5 minutes into the conversation, he called her bluff and she folded instantly, he was able to find out every move she intended to make on the chess board before she could move a single pawn, he bought himself minimum another year of her not selling her shares. He knows she wants CEO badly, he knows she's prideful and impulsive, bhe knows she's a contrarian and only knows how to play defense. He is an evil genius and a master manipulator. This is why rhea was able to manipulate her so easily. Rhea is the only character on this show that plays on logans level. Possibly Greg the egg too.

god this scene just set the rest of the season for me. because she wasn't in the family business in season 1, we never really explored the idea of her being the head of the company/her being considered up until this point and boy I was instantly HOOKED by the possibility. rooting for her forever

One of my favorite aspects of Snook's performance is that she deepens her voice when she wants to present herself as an authority, a subconscious imitation of her father. But the moment she lets her guard down, it's a totally different register. Shiv is a woman who's had to employ every trick to succeed in a male-dominated environment.

Shiv pursues a career in politics as a way to sanitize her public image, but then listen to her talk about how useless things like 'indie films' are to her unless there's a way to merchandise them or turn them into a them park ride. Her motives and belief systems are no different than her family members, but she cares a lot about people thinking she's different.

Season 1 mostly follows Kendall. Season 2 is more about Shiv. I wouldn’t be surprised if Season 3 were about Roman coming into his own. Then Cousin Greg gets crowned in Season 4.
