Keep in mind though theres a difference between glazed and unglazed ceramic. Glazed does not add any benefits to breathability and is similar to a nursery pot in that regard.

I picked up a couple of pots in a nursery that are terracotta, but glazed around the outside sides. The inside of the pot and the bottom of the pot, inside and out, is unglazed. I'm guessing these will be just a tad more breathable than a plastic pot?
@edenisok894
@edenisok894 Год назад
@@sabrinasahla6387 hard to tell but i wouldn’t say theres much of a difference tbh. If the inside is unglazed and soaks up water it could actually make it dry out a little slower. Probably nit much of a different anyways however. As long as your succulent is able to dry out quickly with good sun and airflow any kind of pot is ok.

Love your succulents 😍 beautiful... I wanted to ask, does the not more than 1-2 inches work for echeveria? How will the pups grow from the roots and come out from the top soil? Just wondering? I can see a pup on the root, but I'm not sure what size pot I should select
@SucculentsBox
@SucculentsBox Год назад
Hi, thank you for your question. It depends on how big your succulent is. As many professional gardeners recommend a container that is 10% larger in diameter than the width of your succulent. For instance, if your chubby green has a width of 4 inches, a 4.5-inch pot will be ideal for it 😉

What’s your advise on concrete planters? Are the good for succulents?
@SucculentsBox
@SucculentsBox 3 года назад
Hi Stefan, concrete planters are porous so water can evaporate quickly, making them the perfect pot material for cacti and succulents. It's best to choose the one with drainage holes! For more information, you can refer to our blog on this topic: succulentsbox.com/blogs/blog/choose-the-right-pots-for-your-succulents

How about concrete pots? I really like the look, are they as breathable as terracotta ones?
@SucculentsBox
@SucculentsBox Год назад
Please don't worry, they are just amazing for cacti and succulents. Concrete planters are porous so water can evaporate quickly. It's important that they have drainage holes as well. Concrete planters are durable and great at insulating plants against sudden temperature fluctuations as well as absorb and radiate heat, which can protect roots against late or early frosts. You can check some concrete pots here succulentsbox.com/search?type=product,page,article,collection&q=concrete%20pot*

Hi! Question? If the pot (with holes) is too big enough, can i add more succulents with different types to make it beautiful and equally hydrated?
@SucculentsBox
@SucculentsBox 2 года назад
Hi there, here some tips for you, succulents require a pot that is about 10% wider than the plant itself. When choosing between shallow and deep pots, always go with the shallow pot. The pot's depth should be 10% more than the plant's. If your pot is big enough for two or more succulents, you can put them very close together and they will grow OK. When succulents are planted close together, they grow more slowly, allowing the arrangement to retain its original pattern. Hope this helps

Thanks for the video! Since the decorative pots have a drainage hole, how do you keep them on furniture? I really hate the look of pot trays if I'm using pretty pots but if I don't use either a pot cover (ie. for plastic pots) or a pot tray, water and soil will get on the surface below and possibly ruin the furniture under it over time. Do you have a solution?
@rehmi6774
@rehmi6774 2 года назад
I use saucers, or side plates, depending on the size of the pot. hope that helps.
@SucculentsBox
@SucculentsBox 2 года назад
Hi, Rehmi's idea is nice, or you can try this: Cut a piece of plastic window screening big enough to cover the container drainage holes. This will keep the soil in place while allowing excess water to drain. Alternatively, you can use a piece of landscape fabric or a commercial pot screen to cover the holes.
@danas986
@danas986 2 года назад
@@SucculentsBox Thank you both for the advice! I use pebbles at the bottom of my succulent pots for additional drainage, so I guess that can also work as a barrier for the soil.

I'm wanting to put succulents in a vintage China vase. It has no holes. Is that ok or should I drill some ??
@SucculentsBox
@SucculentsBox Год назад
It would be best if the pot has a drainage hole to prevent the rot root. But in case you don't want to drill a hole, you can check our blog about how to care for the succulent in no-drainage hole pots here: succulentsbox.com/blogs/blog/how-to-take-care-of-succulents-in-a-no-drainage-pot Hope it would be helpful 😉

Hi I m making pot from broken tiles is good for succulents? I made from cement as well ,this is good to?🤔
@edenisok894
@edenisok894 Год назад
I wouldnt say its better than most pots but probably fine. As long as succulents are in good sun and have good airflow the soil will dry out quickly.
@Jezebel066

Bought a ton of planters before I realized even tho they’re ok w/o drainage hole, they prefer it. 😢Time to spend $ on a drill! Is there any that you can’t pot w others? Feel like my baby toes should stay alone..?
@edenisok894
@edenisok894 Год назад
Definitely ok to pot with others just make sure the watering needs, sun requirement and things like that are all the same. Succulents generally dont mind being crowded but it does slow growth(which i find to be a good thing. I like keeping my collection compact). When you drill holes i heard you should do it in water/underwater because it stops the pots from shattering.

What is the most size used and of what material is it made of ?
@SucculentsBox
@SucculentsBox Год назад
Hi, the size would base on the size of your succulent. And the materials usually recommended for succulents are terracotta and ceramic, but you can use others as long as they have a drainage hole 😉
@georgeking5044

Is ceramic just as good for succulents as terracotta?
@SucculentsBox
@SucculentsBox 2 года назад
Terracotta and ceramic are all porous and breathable materials. They’re great for both outdoor and indoor, especially areas that aren’t well ventilated.
