Isn't it funny how the sincere metal fans agree that Bon Jovi was just a pop band with a "pretty boy" frontman and a veneer of metal guitar virtuosity? The outsiders all thought they were legit and should have been accepted as legit by the metalheads. Two things from Rolling Stone magazine (a publication notoriously suspicious of metal): In an issue a long time ago, they did a dual review of Bon Jovi's New Jersey album and Metallica's And Justice For All. They mentioned in the review how curious it was that both these albums are considered "metal," yet they sound nothing alike. That's your first clue. Second, covering the Moscow Music Peace festival in 1989, their reporter was shocked that the Russian kids weren't interested in Bon Jovi at all; no, to his surprise they saved their enthusiasm for Ozzy Osbourne! Oh no! He concluded that it must be because of his association with Black Sabbath, a band that remains popular among Eastern Europeans. That right there tells you everything you need to know about how outsiders view Metal.

It's nice to know that I'm not alone in hating "Whoahs". It drives me fucking insane. Ace Frehley did it in Trouble Walkin too, which makes me feel bad about hating it because I love Ace. All in all, it just makes me think they just couldn't think of lyrics so they just made that sound.

I heard both of the albums, at least hit songs from these albums, like I did with KISS, Maiden, ACDC and Moetley at that time, I didn't have a clue what they are singing about, I am motherspeaking German, but I like the kind of sound and words like "Baby", "Love", "Killer", "Gun", "Crazy" etc. ... that were the words I almost understood and they stand for "SEX" ;) ... I was born 1973, in my guitar and piano lessons at that time I was teached in "pop" music Dylan, Beatles, Stones and Neil Young, the rest were classic Beethoven, Mozart etc. ... I think I was 8 years or so old, listening to KISS Killers Audio Tape, I thought "Love Gun" is against atomic world war between east and west, and I was made for loving you is about making babies greetings from almost "WAR" Europe

I dig all the Bon Jovi albums up till keep the faith ( especially New Jersey) but I get why one would hate them ! I can't stand Jon Bon Jovi, one of the bigger jerk offs in music but hey I grew up on these albums so it's hard for me to hate . But your always funny, and I don't get offended by someone's taste, who cares if someone hates the music you dig ?

I saw them open for Ratt on their invasion tour. I thought they were really good. I had heard their only hit Runaway and I liked it. It stopped there lol. Some songs from Slippery When Wet made it to the Pizza Hut jukebox where I worked and man, I felt like screaming every time I heard them. Oh and a side note, had a friend from New Jersey who met him when he was pretty much a nobody. He said Runaway had just come out and Jon was offended that he hadn't heard the song yet.

Some say there's a Judas Priest vibe in The Price of Love and maybe that's what hooked you? It's been 30+ years since listening to some of these tracks.. "In and Out of Love" rules and the video is just as fun as I remember.. Do some tracks suck? Of course, but I say be proud of what you like.. Music is a personal preference and that's what makes these Suck vs Suck videos so awesome!! PS.. Hope you'll have the KISS shorts next time!! 😀

Yeah and then Priest, Y&T, Triumph, Helix and other bands started dressing and wearing the slippery when wet costumes and chasing the slippery when wet music on their albums. Y&T`s 1987 Title track Contagious from the same name was a total rip off of the guitar on, You give love a bad name. 😉

I must admit I was a bit of a Bon Jovi fan back in the day. It didn't last long , a couple of years then I came to my senses. Bands like Ratt and Dokken had much more appeal to me back then. They stood head and shoulders above Bon Phoney , way better musicians too.

This is the way I see it - the bands who use a ton of cliches usually don't have much money at the time - but then you go listen to "New Jersey" after Slippery flew off shelves, and it's just really formulaic AF. I don't remember 1985 being a good year in rock, but I'm looking at what came out and these were good ones. Maiden's Live After Death was a good one. Anthrax -Spreading the Disease. The Pogues (if you're into Celtic punk) was phenomenal. 1985 was just not a good year in music.

1985 had some of the best albums in metal and in other genres of rock too. Slayer's "Hell Awaits" (my favorite album from them, by far) was released in 1985. Megadeth's "Killing Is My Business" was from '85. The Exodus debut, "Bonded by Blood," '85 as well. Overkill's "Feel The Fire" is a good one from '85. Celtic Frost's incredible "To Mega Therion" album came out in '85. Accept's "Metal Heart" is from '85, and it may not be up there with their very best albums, but I think it's still really good. The Cure's breakthrough album in America (I'm a Cure fan), "The Head On The Door," is from '85. That year was packed with great albums!

We’re a lot alike. We’re each 56. My first KISS LP was Dressed to Kill. I bought it the day Love Gun came out. (June 30, 1977). My friend got Love Gun. Alive 2, Double Platinum and the rest soon followed. By the time Dynasty came out I was living for The Ramones and wasn’t into KISS.

I mildly enjoyed 7800 degrees Fahrenheit when it came out but as you mention it I’ll probably only remember a few songs. When You Gave Love a Bad Name blew up I was out. I really never listened to any other album start to finish. Over the years there is a couple of songs I don’t hate but can’t say I love anything. Overall not a fan but I’ll say I see in some of the hits their is some song writing talent so I’ll give Jon that much credit b

I lived in NJ for 16 years where The Boss and Bon Phoney were Gods. I never liked much from either of them and that didn't sit well with the locals. I did see Bon Phoney once in the mid 80's while they were still opening for other bands in Buffalo NY. I wasn't impressed except for the leather trenchcoats. :)

Ok, so I'm actually I big Bon Jovi fan lol Let It Rock The Price of Love Living On A Prayer King of the Mountain Wanted Dead or Alive Raise Your Hands Without Love Always Run to You To the Fire Secret Dreams 5-5 tie I admit 7800° is cheeesey as all get out but I like some of the songs.... Slippery When Wet I like, but it's slightly overrated...I like New Jersey but Bon Jovi really came into their own with Keep the Faith

These albums were good at the time they were released but now I cant stand Livin on a prayer,You give love, and Wanted DoA. What's sickening is radio stations play these songs every effin day like they were just released and the DJs act like people want to hear this shit after 30 plus years of these being played a million times already . Thank god for Sirius xm radio! These Days is a great album and it's the only BLow Jovi Cassette I've ever owned lol

The "hair rock" stuff never grabbed me. To me it was more less "chick rock/party rock/sex rock" with most of the fans being girls at the concerts, which wasn't cool to me then or now

It's a shame that Dr Fuck isn't a Bon Jovi fan since his Bon Jovi impersonations were the best imitations of any songs that he made fun of so far . Maybe his band could do a Thrash version of You Give Love a Bad Name, especially considering that a lot of Thrash Metal bands used to cover Pop songs

And Eddie let him in the band? Omg!!! I've never heard a bon jovi album. I did listen to the Barbara Streisand album Yentil once to torture myself. I think bon jovi could be worse.
