"Hysteria is the best album ever" was freaking gold! It CHANGED THE WORLD! Back when ...And Justice For All and that BJ album were coming out a buddy called the record store to see if Justice came in, the guy at the store said "No, but we have the new Bon Jovi!" what a fucking tool.

Not ashamed to admit I LOVE both these albums! I am 12 years younger then Doc so these albums were right in my sweet zone of 80s hard rock, i honestly couldn't choose what one I love more ! And this is coming from a guy who plays in death metal bands ..... Hey we love what we love and the music you get into between the ages of 5 and 15 will always have a special place.

Hysteria came out when I was 19 & was played & played & played (on cassette) at every wild party, chick-fest, goodtime rockin' out experience I had back in the glory days! I still spin the compact laser disc today & love every second of it. Was there a bigger mainstream rock album during the summer of '88?

I have to strongly disagree with you... about Bon Phoney's cringiest power ballad. I have to say the cringiest Bon Phoney ballad is Bed of Roses. "With an ironclad fist I wake up and french kiss the morning" "For tonight I'll sleep on a bed of nails , Oh I want to be just as close as the Holy Ghost is" Just read all those lyrics and prepare to gouge your eyes out with a fork! But as for these 2 albums, I am with you on their suckage. Very entertaining video!

They're evenly matched albums. They were both in the same boat trying to outdo Pyromania and Slippery When Wet. They were both massive sellers at the time, but 30 years later, have these albums held up? Or was it just really good marketing and MTV constantly playing their videos that made them seem better than they really were?

OK. I love Def Leppard. I love all of their music and I am a forever fan. The only way I would stop listening to them is if they went permanently into rap or country music and the rest of their catalog was destroyed and could never be heard again. I like Bon Jovi but nowhere near as much as I love my Lepps. All that said, you're funny dude. Keep up the good work.

Life-long Def Leppard fan here and this entertained the fuck outta me. 😂 Although I have to travel further down the list of Def Leppard albums to reach the level of cringe that you did for Hysteria (I'm looking at you, "X"). I was 13 when Hysteria was released and it was the soundtrack for my high school years which, coincidentally, SUCKED, but the music is just too nostalgic for me not to love it. However, High 'n' Dry would ultimately become my favorite. Anyway, I think it's funny you only have that Volume 1 vinyl collection of Def Leppard's on the shelf there. That slipcase spine mural shall forever remain incomplete. 😂

Although not nearly as close as their first 3 albums, I don’t hate Hysteria as much as most. For a “ pop” album, I’ve heard worse. If it wasn’t following the first 3 albums, I may like it a little more. But, for Bon Jovi, other than maybe 3-4 songs overall, I am just not a Bon Jovi fan.

I love the first 3 Def Leppard albums and have them all. The best song on Hysteria for me is Gods of War. Have never been into Bon Jovi, their music was always too fluffy. Def Leppard in the early years were a much heavier sounding rock band. Now they are still just trading off their old stuff as their,later music sucks. They lost me after the death of Steve Clark, who was their major music writer and such a brilliant guitarist.

@@Shelby8371 I always wonder how different they would be if they still had Steve. Certainly a much better band than they are now. But he also wanted to try other things musically, and I have heard that he was interested in writing musical scores for film, etc. He was the magic of Def Leppard. Such a talent, but no self confidence. A decent, kind and funny human being who deserved to be bringing music to us for much longer than he did. As time has gone on since his death, Joe Elliott has minimised his contribution to the band, and prefers to now say that Steve did co write songs with him. Not a loyal band mate or friend really. The thing is that Steve will be and is remembered by the older Leppard fans, much more than Elliott will ever be. It was Steve who said they either play a gig or he was leaving when he got sick of them just rehearsing. So a gig was finally organised and the rest is history, no matter what Elliott says.

I do have that album, just don't have the same feeling for it. and that's only my opinion, everyone is different. Sometimes I think that Mutt Lange went a bit overboard with the production.

My love for Def Leppard simultaneously begins and ends with Hysteria. Such a cool, experimental and groundbreaking album. The production was far beyond anything of its time with possibly the exception of Queensrÿche’s Rage For Order.

Hysteria was the biggest musical disappointment I ever experienced as a fan. I loved DL’s first 3 albums, and figured as long as it took them to make Hysteria it was going to be awesome. I was wrong. Dead wrong. The one thing I will say is that during the chorus of “Women” it at least sounds a little bit like the DL I loved. The only other somewhat redeeming quality is the fact that “Pour Some Sugar on Me” used to be used at nudie bars.

The only similarity is having producers call the shots and the band falling in line, and radio play beating us over the head with the songs. I can still listen to Black Album all the way through. Sandman & Nothing Else Matters are overplayed AF but even Sad But True & Wherever I May Roam aren't really played much. But I bet Load, Reload, St Anger and Lulu will be on suck vs suck at some point.

I like both of these albums but DL started fizzling out after this . 1 reason the 3 previous DL albums were better because Rick Allen was a killer drummer and still had both arms! They had to change it up a bit and got poppier . New Jersey sounds like Hot in the Shade part 2 with Blow Jovi behind the microphone. Great sucks vs sucks though

As much as I love Hysteria, I also understand why people hate it so much. Because it was such a drastic change from what their first three albums were. But I get it. Why do the b-sides sound more raw than the actual album? I also heard that the band wasn't even in the studio when mutt Lange put all the electronic sounds in rocket. Mutt Lange is a multitasker, he knows how to ruin bands and marriages. as far as bon Jovi goes, meh zzzzz Anyways, great video Ralph.

I’d take Hysteria. Even though it’s a bad album the songs are at least catchy. I can’t say the same for New Jersey
