That year Xterra had a fuel level sensor service bulletin depending on the VIN, which replacement was needed for an inaccurate fuel guage. That may have been done at some point and the fuel line just did not make it on all the way. Seen this before at the Dealer even if the recall was done a year ago and customer says no other work has been done. Maybe this info will help. Super rare though.
Add coolant! Also, that rig is surprisingly rust free for a NE vehicle. I can't remember a time when I fixed something without using a single part. Nice. 😃
I'm glad you weren't under the truck when you activated the fuel pump, Ivan. Golden showers from an Xterra can't be a fun thing! Thanks for another mysterious one!
I love ones like this - no heavy thinking required. See leak, find leak, fix leak - done! I'd probably swear much less during my day if they were all this easy. 😁 As an added bonus, you were able to get it plugged back in without dropping the tank down. 👍 Last Xterra I had here was also missing a gallon of coolant, and a couple quarts of oil. Must be a 4.0 thing, lol. A single mom owned it - she broke down on the main road near my house - lost every single lug nut on the left front!! My buddy was here finishing up the siding on the new shop, and when he left, he saw her there, then came back and got me. We looked up and down the road about 500' trying to find at least one nut, but no luck. My buddy drove slow 2 miles back down the road, and ended up finding one! I couldn't believe it. Threw that one on there, & I threw on 3 nuts from my stash that didn't quite fit right. She drove slow, and got it to my house - it spent 3 days there, since the auto parts stores kept giving her the wrong ones! Gotta love it. Since hub bearings normally come with new studs, I believe that's why she had such a hard time finding them. Anyway - got it fixed and down the road. My good deed for the day. :)
Let's just say you would start swearing pretty quick once you realized how tight that gap between the body and tank was lol! I have skinny long arms and it was still a pain!
Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics like my brother in law's Suburban with a 42 gallon tank . Drained most of the fuel and I having the skinnier arms was drafted for the honors of disconnecting it . Made up some new words that day : )
What I think happened from imperial information. We know the connection was hard to mate, henceforth the dude at the factory didn’t get it connected properly. Then friction held it on for years. Then along comes the Crown man and lubes the connector profusely. Add pressure from fuel pump and “POP” off comes connector. Glad it wasn’t a Cessna taking off 800 feet off the ground. To conclude, I’m probably hallucinating!
Ivan, Just a big tip for you and any Nissan truck and cars owners from 2005 to 2016 all models with automatic transmission (Xterra, Pathfinder and Frontier with VQ40 engine or Nissan / infinity cars with the V6 on it) you need to bypass the transmission cooler from the stock radiator to a external aftermarket one. the radiator that Nissan got from the supplier came with a material defect that with time breaks internally allowing coolant lo mix with the transmission fluid and end up filling up the automatic transmission with coolant and create a catastrophic internal damage that you only find out when the transmission started slipping and then fail. There is a lot of info about it online and the bypass just cost $40 to $80 depending on the aftermarket oil cooler that you pick and the by pass just take few minutes to be done, and your automatic transmission wont fail.
-I'm pretty sure those caps were accidentally switched at some point. No reason for the overflow to have a spring-loaded cap. That leaves the coolant with a straight shot to the overflow as soon as it starts to build pressure, which is probably why the radiator's level was low.- Could be wrong though, Nissans are kind of weird. *Correction: The caps are in the correct spots. This particular Nissan only has a spring-loaded cap on the overflow.*
Looks like a recovery system that was converted to an expansion system by the factory in the simplest way possible. Most of those expansion systems use specific radiators with no caps, only hose connections. Maybe Nissan had some left over radiators they needed to use up, so they did it this way. Either way, it will work fine. Just add some coolant to it. It might be tricky to get the air out of that system without a vacuum refill system.
Been my experience that the usual spring loaded radiator cap can often have a defective return flow check valve that isn't right even when new. That tiny spring that holds the check valve up can't be too strong nor too weak or the system is charged with too much water in the cold phase or none at all. This defeats the entire purpose of the overflow tank which is to purge vapor from the cooling system. Nissian has done that nicely here. They got rid of that tiny spring entirely, past twenty years I've had to correct every one I've come across.
I don't think the strength of the return valve spring in the rad cap is that critical at all. If it didn't open, your hoses would pretty much collapse as the system cools lol. And can't really charge the system with "too much" water...it's a fixed volume!
He should take it back to crown now. They will usually re-apply in the areas washed off by the gas - free of charge. I know they do so if you have an accident and have body work done. Thumbs up on the suggestions so far as to why the hose came off. Nice quick video - Thanks
If you get CTS codes, first check the radiator fluid. Check oil and other fluids. It should have a CTS code with the radiator low. Fill up the radiator before doing anything. Check ALL codes to prevent future trouble. Check important sensors while you're there. That radiator cap may supposed to go on the overflow and the overflow should be on the radiator.
nice and easy fix! Hard to believe that xterra looks that nice underneath in this area, assuming the owner is a state college resident lol. Also wanted to say hey and that I'm the guy who saw your wife for an eye exam the other day :)
I'd assume fuel pump/module was replaced and they slammed it on without fully connecting. if not maybe a mud dauber nest "was" there and caused it. they build them things packed tight and they harden like concrete mortar.
"You need a ten thousand dollar Snap-On tool to do this." - Turn on - turn off - bi-directional Few shaky videos are fun to watch; this is an exception. Don't mistake this cat for a DIYer lol.
I highly doubt it.,. that motor likely has over 200.,000 miles on it, it would have came out already... I say mud dauber nest blocking vent line.. its like jb weld, maybe stronger/.
+Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics Radiator and coolant reservoir caps are switched! I'll keep watching and see if you notice it too! Sorry! EDIT looks like the radiator flat cap is only to bleed the air out of the system, so they are not switched after all. I think there's a removable acces at the top inside the cabin to access the fuel pump connectors.
Great video Ivan can't wait to get my Verus pro or maybe the edge but anyway keep those videos coming. And your right can't say for sure how that line became disconnected.PEACE
Gonna take a wild guess @ 4:09 in, Distributor bad. If I'm wrong forgive me lol. oops i thought it was a 3.3. I was wrong. Good Job Ivan. I will just watch and learn.
That has to be the one in a million accidental fail, i bet it will stay good now :-D. The caps under the bonnet dont make sense, do they swap over and fit?.
Look up expansion coolant systems. It makes perfect sense, but generally expansion systems have radiators that don't have any caps. Its a different way of doing it, but I like it, it probably means the radiator is the same as previous generations with the overflow tanks.
And the moral of this episode is.. Don't ever check under your vehicle with a lighter. If possible (floor access or tank drop) it's always good to back up those connectors with small zip ties or wire.
I wonder if that mud dauber nest was blocking the fuel tank vent line,, the pressure has to go somewhere when the pressure expands.. those nests are like superglue and mud... they like to build then in fire extinguisher nozzles and outboard motor s. ect.. I had an outboard cover that had abt 3 pounds of dirt in it from nests. it was blocking the intake air,.,.
@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics what im saying though, if the vent line was blocked with the mud dauber glue, when the tank expanded the pressure blew the supply line off. he may have filled the tank on a warm day, and it was too much pressure, those dauber love to build nests in holes for some reason., I would call him and tell him to knock that mud off if its still on there . the only other logical explaination would be if the line got snagged on something .,spare tire carrier swinging around?
You guys are harsh on that kid. He probably just freaked out as to why it stopped and saw the puddle in the road and assumed oil. Let alone he probably confused the Krown on the bottom of the vehicle with oil. He freaked out, and was worried he ruined his engine with no oil since he saw the oil light come on, which was probably the stalling engine. Give the kid a break.
A $10,000 snap on tool was not helpful in this case but we all know the best tool around is the brain. Nice call on that one and yes, pretty easy to see and hear the problem right away. Actually the tool did turn on the fuel pump for you so in a was helpful. :)
my thoughts also, pull dipstick, still has oil? Y. go crank it over and listen, I can imagine the smell and could heard the waterfall sound, now go look with light and inspection mirror. or just throw a match :P
Retail 10k I bought a brand new Verus edge with 18.4 for $3500 I’d never pay retail for something like that. You need them these days now tho. You’re right might not be helpful everytime but brain is, experience is best
The radiator caps are probably reversed meaning the flat one goes on the expansion tank and the spring one goes on the radiator otherwise that's a weird ass setup.
I`m sure it will stay on, but I`d go to Nissan and buy a new clip and keep it in the glove box :-) The rad cap with out the spring.. I cut caps like that to bleed the cooling system, a quick drive and then put the proper cap on.
Trouble from Newfoundland, 05 Frontier V6 fuel injection-->good crank, hard start/no start when cold -fuel pressure good -spark good -no misfire codes -fuel trims all normal around zero
good morning ivan...I say the line was removed at one point and never put home when reinstalled the earlier x terras had an access cover and the bcm codes? ok.... oil leak or gas leak....or coolant leak??? hmmmmm I say trans fluid hehe!
There was a nest on top of the fuel tank, so I'm thinking a small animal was biting into everything it could find, desperate for food, and unhooked one side of the connector allowing the other side to pop when the car and fuel pump started up. To me that's more likely than the connector holding for 13 years with one side off. This is just a hypothesis, if you wanted to test it I guess you could leave an evap hose with one side off and see if you get a check engine light in the next 13 years lol.
Do you offer Bed and Breakfast, for customers who come in late in the evening. Thought we were going to get a Bonus Footage, Of Matt breaking down on the way home. Is there a way that fuel line is somehow building to much pressure, I know the pump has a HP Bypass, looks like it was blown off.
We are currently taking donations to buy Matt another clunker like a VW so that we can get even more videos. We figure he has a way of blowing up cars , So let's GO BIG!😉
haha well he did try to blow up the Mystique a few years back by driving it to my shop with a seized water pump...Thank goodness it survived! No way a VW could do that xD
By the time I found this video you had over 200 thumbs-up one thumbs down I was wondering why somebody would thumbs down my buddy Ivan and then I heard that annoying high-pitched squeal going on for the whole video and realized why LOL
guy said he changed it and never wiped up the spillage from front cover/intake tube, which pretty much guarantees he didn't properly fill/purge it either.
amazingly RUSTFREE for SALT belt car-wonder if Krown wands caused damage -but most places NEVER spray top of gas tank ~ ~makes you wonder ~normal wear ? ~suggest you pull tank and look for more symptoms-although nasty job
Michael O lol. I've yet to have any issues with mine. My brother in law on the other hand has went through 2 crap-ons and has since, went with autel. At $10,000+ for a crap-on, I'd expect it to work right without any system failures. Snap-on took the 1st one and said it had a program flaw, but they couldn't fix it, so he was issued a 2nd one. It began having issues booting up. Hopefully autel doesn't fail.
You would have thought that something as fundamental as no fuel reaching the engine would have generatetd a CEL, as there are codes for just about every other fault!!
