Sugar Free Buttercream Frosting Challenge! - Which tastes best?
In this video we make 4 different sugar free buttercream frosting recipes and one real sugar buttercream frosting recipe and we do a taste test to find out which sugar alternative tastes the best.
Recipes in order of appearance:
1:15 Monkfruit Cream Cheese Frosting
4 tbsp - organic cream cheese
1 tsp - vanilla extract
1/2 cup - lakanto Monkfruit Sweetner
2:18 Dave's Sweet Butter Spread
6:44 more review of this recipe
1/2 cup (1 stick) - softened butter
1/4 cup - VitaFiber IMO syrup
3 tbsp - Arrowroot flour or tapioca flour (starch). Add additional if you prefer a thicker frosting.
1/8 tsp - Pure Monk® Monk Fruit Extract Sweetener. Add additional to sweetener to taste but add in tiny amounts because if you add too much it will give a bitter aftertaste.
3:14 Swerve Buttercream Frosting
3 cups - Swerve Confectioners powdered sweetener
1 cup (2 sticks) - softened butter
2 tsp - vanilla extract
2 tbsp - milk (as needed)
4:17 Real Buttercream Frosting
4 cups - powdered sugar
1 cup (2 sticks) - softened butter
1 tsp - vanilla extract
2 tbsp - milk (as needed)
4:55 Monkfruit Buttercream Frosting
4 tbsp - butter
1 tsp - vanilla extract
1/2 cup - Lakanto Monkfruit Sweetener

Great taste challenge! Thank you. It answered my questions about the tastes. Could you do an update on this with the added challenge of consistency of the icing as far as how well it spreads on cakes etc?

Thanks for the video. Sadly I wish there was more explanation of what “this” and “that” was or a still shot of what was what. My mom and I would like to try making a frosting, but the video didn’t explain much of the products you kept kinda reminding yourself of or holding up. Stay safe

That was a lovely video , and you are getting very professional. One slight problem , i couodnt see the products you were holding up.so i dont know what they were. I think if you were to say the product names it would help. Watch the video yourself and you will see the problem. You make such great videos , this is meant to be constructive . Love K

Thanks so much for doing this! I've been wanting to do a sugar free buttercream frosting but was nervous because of the spendy ingredients so this was really helpful! AND the facial expressions were just FABULOUS! 🤣 They said it all! Looking at the comment below, it sounds like you didn't use the Swerve Confectioner's sugar?...I thought you did. Have you tried that one yet and is it an improvement?

It's the alcohol in the Monk, fruit and swerve that causes the cooling effect.

You should try stevia/erithritol . They sort of cancel out the after tastes of each other. It's my new fave. I put it in my tea.

Actually we use the same thing for tea as well. We only have the little packets from Splenda Naturals so we'll have to get a larger bag and try it.

If you use the Swerve confectioner powder instead of granules you will lose the cooling/granular taste.

I wish that were the case for me! Seems every time I use powdered erythritol I still get that cooling effect, even if I only use 1/4 cup (or less) for a cheesecake. I usually find myself having to mix in another sweetener to help with the aftertaste of it

But as much heavy cream as you wish add sugar free vanilla flavoring then whip it be careful it doubles in size when you whip it and if you freeze it for 2 hours it will become ice cream

I've used Swerve in 2 recipes and followed the instructions and both of the Keto treats I made were not sweet at all. Not sure why. Do you think you may have an idea around that?

I felt the same way about swerve. Maybe temperature has something to do with it. What they are trying was cold. what I made was candied pecans and I honestly didn't like it at all. Have you tried Boca Sweet?

Her faces tho😂! Basically if you really need to make buttercream frosting...just make regular frosting...no subs...bc your tongue and brain will be confused and won't get to enjoy the frosting 😅

I heard negative reviews about Lakanto and I suspect they put very little monk fruit. I use liquid monk fruit that is 100% and I dont notice any aftertaste OR may be its just me. Everybody is different.

I only use Lakanto and I sell my products and no one has ever said anything about an aftertaste nor have I ever noticed an aftertaste.

@@Preciselylate322 Always a good idea to give it a try. Everybody is different so I won't read too much into the reviews. My comment was posted 2 years ago so I did try Lakanto and didn't experience any issues. Then Costco stopped carrying it and now I am using the one they carry. No issues with any Monk Fruit Erythritol product so far. Good luck.

Have you tried Allulose? Expensive, but hardly any aftertaste. I mix it with stevia from Kal, vanilla flavored. The vanilla hides the stevia taste. Kal makes vitamins, but they do make that one stevia product. Beats Sweet Leaf by a mile.

What is Kal Holly? I use allulose for most all my baking and love it! Have you had success making a buttercream frosting with it? Even though allulose is pretty powdery, I still grind it again when I make my sugar free Cacao chips just to make sure it dissolves without overheating my cacao butter but I've not yet used it as an icing so I was hoping you could give me some feedback. Thanks 😊

@@natalieaaby7002 Kal is the name of a vitamin company. Their stevia has the best taste of any I have tried. iherb has their products.

Allulose is the best choice for me always; best keto ice creams are done with it. For Alice cream the syrup is the best choice…

Hillarious! You need to make real buttercream like my mom used to make, the old fashioned German one! But your daughter would not like it, it's not sweet. If I recall (have not made it in decades!) It's equal amounts of pudding and butter. German pudding is not presweetened and you use 1 to 2 tablespoons to 1 liter milk - coconut milk might work - the sweet is in the cake not the frosting. Nowadays fondant has taken over, unfortunately.

why can't you just make the frosting like you would if it was not sugar free. and just use sugar free powered sugar.

Most sugar substitutes have an awful cooling effect. That's only good for ice cream.
