I remember when my sister bought this game, I was so mad because I thought it wouldn't be good. I even tried to return it but because we'd opened it the price went down drastically and I decided it wasn't worth it. 10 hours into playing my brother and I kept shooting glares at my poor sis because it started really slowly, now I'm so ashamed because it's one of the best rpgs I've ever played. Better than Final fantasy in my opinion.
Mina Haruna it did start out pretty slow lol. I made a permanent save spot some time after Stormfist just so in the future, if i want to play it again fresh, i can skip some of the sol falena parts lol
@@b.s.3000 but what if you want to see the sacred games and some alternate scenes about that? There is quite some important worldbuilding and missable cutscenes in the first 6hrs of the game. I totally understand that it feels "boring" compared to the rest of the game, but let the rising tension be part of the experience, because you know when u played it first that something is off and that the enemy just waited for the perfect moment to opportune!
I just played Suikoden V last year from the very beginning till it finished with 108 stars of destiny completed, I didn't get to finish back in 2006. And I must say the feeling of playing it, even the second time was really awesome and blissful. Too bad, this was like the best last of the series. I understand that design and making 108 characters + enemies + NPC + voicing them all needs a high budget but still, really too bad it ended, it has so much potential
I'm glad I got to grow up with this series. Suikoden V felt like a return to Suikoden II and I love every second of it. I haven't played it since the Spring of 2006 (such a better time in my life) and I may have to return to it soon after watching this. Thanks for the awesome video! :)
hello, does suikoden 5 improve over the very limited invetory space of S2? generally, does it improve the entire inventory managment? also, are the 108SoD the same in all Suikoden games? thx in advance.
Hmm... I don't remember a problem with the inventory space in Suikoden 5. The 108 Stars of Destiny are different, although many of the same ones are recurring. I'd say about 40 are recurring. Just a guess. This game is easily the best in the series when it comes to the story and characters. You don't get to know all the characters well, but the main 6 or so are interesting and grow throughout the adventure. The story is one of the finest in any JRPG. Def give this game a try if you can.
The thing about Viki suggesting that she teleported from a future where Falena no longer exists is definitely from the Suikoden wiki cos I know the guy who listed that fact on Falena's page.
Viki's Time Traveling implies that her Rune is not a blinking Rune but the Rune of Change (one of the 27 true runes) which spawned all the Blinking Runes Which would make sense as to why her memory is so fractured becuase she herself is fractured as part of the runes curse for bearing it, it is also implied that she is of the sindar as well viki is a super interesting character and sadly we will never know her full story any more :(
In my opinion The reason viki does not remember is not the same as jean who live through the serries vikki her self blinked to another time and era so her chronologic event is the same as the serries order not the timeline order.
Suikoden V is the first Suikoden game I've beaten, such a good game, I put in over 100 hours into it, mostly trying to recruit as many of the characters as I could before end game!
That's awesome! I got the opportunity to play them starting back in the 90's. Have you played all the numbered games? I can't help but enjoy them all, even Suikoden IV haha.
Same here. First game. Played and beat all but 2 (which I refused to finish with a bad ending, cause I'm stubborn, so I eventually have to replay the entire thing XD Not lack of interest, too much interest) This game was just one I found on the shelves at a local game store. I had no friends who cared for JRPG's, so I didn't even know about many despite being almost exclusively a JRPG lover. This game came at a time when I was disillusioned with gaming... at the beginning of the dreaded FPS era (dreaded for me at least XD I am terrible at them, so... kinda hard to enjoy them when I can't play them well enough to get anything done. And I'd almost say 5 reignited my love for games all over again. It had great, lovable characters, a story with many twists and turns I never saw coming, and really showed me how deep stories can be after many years of classic good vs evil. Don't get me wrong though, I still love a good hero story, but I really liked that none of the Suikoden 5 'villains' were straight up bad people, even if they did terrible things. They thought they were pushing their home to a better future, and did so despite the moral pitfalls of it all.
Yeah, but that require two things that likely won't happen. 1. Konami actually caring about a series that didn't sell up to their expectations. 2. Konami getting the Suikoden team that was scattered across the company back together to actually work on it. I really hate saying that, but... its probably never going to see the light of day. WHICH SUCKS!!!
i started to play this game while I was 10 years old. now im 19. i grew up with this game and its really helps me with my english (eventho i think i still need some improvements) overall this is the best rpg i could have said. i started with Suikoden 5. looking forward to play other games in the same series.
Lyons weapons are based on flowers. And Ravens weapons are named, especially the last, after nevermore from Edgar Allen Poe, a famous poet. Suikoden V also got rushed as seen in later instances such as Castle Sauronix, Dorrat which is totally useless from inside (and way too big for it's own good), also the motivation of Gizel & his dad aren't really fleshed out/well developed over the course of the game. There's also an unused bath in the dakan(?), the big ship from raftfleet which hints towards using said ship as an HQ (the bath never had ANY feature ingame, not even once).
That explanation might explain Young Viki... but the Viki from Suikoden 1-3 is definitely the same character jumping around. Each time she shows up, she mentions being at the victory banquet for the previous game. It's Suikoden IV where it gets weird and in Suikoden V, that she doesn't know who Lorelai is, gets confusing since she might know if she's already lived through I-III. However Young Viki being from another universe might explain whatever the heck she is.
Fact : jadour is no french, but an arabic name meaning "first sprout of spring". So Frey-jadour could mean "the lord that sprout the first our of winter" or something like that. About jadour, you just got it wrong with "j'adore" ("I like very much" in french), which seems like a commom mistake for english-speakers...
I think Viki or Jeane is the leader of sindar wearing Change rune. For Viki's cases she always appear nowhere after a party, but in suikoden 3 which the timeline is 15 years after suikoden 2 she still say that she teleport after the party, and the little Viki appear too in suikoden 3, its weird to have 2 Viki in 1 series. The little Viki seems know the Big Viki, but Big Viki dont know that little Viki is her. Maybe the big Viki uses Change rune and the effect of that rune erase her memory. I really love Viki after all so this is my theory 😆 For Jeane's cases in suikoden 5, when we want to recruit her, she ask us to accompany her to sindar ruin and she can even open the gate of that ruin. If the suikoden 6 exist, I think the MC will takeplace in Harmonia and in suikoden 6 Pesmerga will be our SOD again, he will chase Yuber and finally able to kill Yuber xD
To be honest, I have always thought that Viki is just a recurrent joke in the game and that is all, she sneezes and by accident she teleports to the other Suikoden game, and that is all as an excuse to shoehorn here in the game so you can have your teleporter girl. I don't think the developers were planning to do something really complex with her. Jeanne is another story, there is definitely something special that was planned for her, but it never happened, I don't even think she is Sindar, the ruins you go through with her are not Sindar, the ruins are from another civilization that flourished there even before the Sindar, as she states in the game.

@1tiercel . 1) Viki is not the only one, Jeane appears in every game as well. Is Viki really better than Jeanne or Maxine? Honest question... What is what makes her so good in Suiko4? I know that in Suiko5 is because of her Chain Magic, but I don't consider her so good in 4. 2) Freyjadour is not a descendant of Lino en Kuldez, I guess you are a little confused here, because as far as I know Skald Egan is not part of the Obel Royal family, and there is nothing that says otherwise.
@1tiercel . Ah, now I see, you are talking about preference more than facts. Which is totally different. In Suikoden 2 Viki is one of the worst mages, she doesn't compare with Luc and Mazus in any way, Viki has a fixed probability to backfire any rune spell she uses except for Blinking, even Nina is a better mage in Suiko2 than Viki, simply because the main factor that makes a spell powerful in Suikoden 2 is not even Magic status, but rune affinity (The magic status is more of a factor for MP and only adds a little extra damage to spells), Luc, Mazus and Nina have good affinity with runes and have a good magic status to back them up. For instance, even with a higher magic status Viki will never be a better Fire mage than Nina, because Nina has max affinity with Fire, she even has a higher affinity with runes like Earth and Resurrection than Viki (there are more characters with high rune affinities, of course, but Viki is not one of them because of the backfire probability and she doesn't have max affinity with any rune), Luc and Mazus are the best mages in the game, as they have nax affinity with almost an rune. Viki doesn't compare to Luc in any way in Suikoden 2. In Suikoden 4, lol, you are exaggerating, I never use Viki (like many other people, I am sure) in the training room and I have never had problems clearing it, and yes, it is true that Viki can obliterate your party if you are not careful, but that goes for any Mage character that you fight against in the training room, including Pablo. Overall, both Jeane and Maxine get better raw status than Viki, in this game Viki has better rune affinities, and has no backfire probability (well...except for Blinking ironically), but she has no max affinity with any rune again, Maxine has max affinity with Wind and Jeanne with Lightning, overall Maxine and Jeanne are better Mages than Viki. With this I am not saying Viki is useless, or that shouldn't be used, "almost" any character in Suikoden can be good if you want to, but Viki is far from being the best mage in Suiko2-4 , and in Suiko5 she is still not the best but one of the best indeed.
Ah, Suikoden 5. One of my favorite games, and the game that got me into this gem of a series. I think it will always be my favorite for that. I've loved all of them (though personally for me, 3 was a step down. Not even sure why, but as I got further into the game I just grew more jaded towards it), but 5 will always be the top for me. Its characters, story, and setting drew me in immediately, and it didn't hurt that the battle system felt very smooth and easy to navigate. Truly a game that deserved so much more, but alas... Suikoden's main series games at least died off on a high note. That can't be said for all game series.
There's a reference for Luca Blight in this game in the form of Childerich - A poor man/very weak/cheap version of Prince Luca. And Retso's daughter Shun Min married Hai Yo. The chef in suikoden2. k bye
@@dhanz8516 shun min was killed in suikoden 2 timeline, and retso blame it on hai-yo, because shun min stole secret recipe from her father, and jin kai thugs killed her
Now I wonder how far into the future Viki comes from if Falena is no longer the same as its present state. And what of Harmonia? It said in Cathari's ending that Harmonia does not interfere in Falenan politics for decades, which means it may try again in the future.
Yuri lowenthal has been a key part of VA work in video games... Cecil Harvey from Dissidia and Dissidia 012, Minato Arisato/Makoto Yuki/Protagonist from Persona 3, Yosuke Hanamura from the Persona 4 games and spin offs... and that's not all that I can mention!
Renn Gurski Yes, you can find him everywhere. I literally think he can be some kind of VA representative for video games because he is ver active. you can instantly recognize his voice. For myself, the first time I realized that he is very active is when I played hack GU series, then persona.
This is my second favorite Suikoden game, but as much as I love Suikoden 5 I have always hated that Konami wasted two major titles in prequels instead of continuing the story or giving it a proper ending.
1. The other unrevealed true runes, what are those and what of their powers? WE DEMAND TO KNOW 2. The fullness of Jeane, Viki, and Lorelai story each, WE DEMAND TO KNOW 3. What about Pesmerga and Yuber? What are they exactly and what about their pursue conclusion? WE DEMAND TO KNOW 4. I'm one of those ppl who believe that every true rune should be playable and we got to see the magic or passive or tech in it. WE DEMAND TO KNOW
Paul Smith if they did it like they done suikoden 3 where you had true earth fire wind lightning water you could do it in 9 if you covered 3 true runes
WOH!!!! Nah, all good. I liked Suikoden 3 the first time I played them all those years ago. Now things have changed and Suikoden 2 is without a doubt, the number one for me.
No, I agree with that, Suikoden II might be the best in its era, but it is just so overrated, I think objectively I can say that Suikoden V is better in term of everything including the stories..but the game is so underrated, and most of the Suikoden fans are incapable to play the game somehow, either they don't have the console or they can't find the game anymore in market. I joined a lot of Suikoden community and forum, obviously they said Suikoden II is the best ever made RPG game but sadly they never play further than that, some people claimed had finished all the main series but they know nothing about Suikoden V, maybe because people enjoy the simple and straightforward stories like Suikoden II, it has a deep political and war theme, but it doesn't bring it further to the point like Suikoden V, where politics and betrayal are more complicated, also I found out that Suikoden II is more enjoyable in term of storytelling while for Suikoden V, most people need to learn the hard way to actually understand the whole Queendom politics and the lore of its world which is I believe it made the game looks bland, also people hate the weird 3D implementation in Suikoden V, but I love the way it is, it just fit into the game very well. I can tell that another reason: Suikoden II has a great good-looking main character while Suikoden V, well I don't know how to describe her, lol, but he is a great character too..
Sandy's Box I think nostalgia is a powerful thing for many people and they have great memories of playing S2 (as do I). I think its an incredible game and unknown to so many in the mainstream, compare this to Chrono Trigger, a game I think is terribly overrated and far from the best RPG of all time IMO. Yet I didnt play that game when it was relevant so I dont have nostalgia to alter my judgement. Many who loved S2 kinda get caught up in memberberry feels for it so they sleep on S5.
Having played both games over and over I did understand why some people said S2 is better. There are so much thing you can explore in S2. like lot's of mini games, hidden scenes, secret scenes in HQ, alternative scenes. This is clearly what makes it more memorable. I admit that S5 stories is more mature, but it doesn't offer those kinds of thing you can get in S2.
To think liking S5 over S2 isn't an unpopular opinion. Many say it's on Suikoden's 2 level, however, Suikoden 2 stands, at least graphical & in terms of music, the test of time. If Suikoden V had the S2 composer and more budget it, it's greatness wouldn't fall flat towards the end of the game, which makes me very sad, since it had BIG potential :/
@@formeitwastuesday Yes. I never got quite warm with S5 to be honest. Maybe I will give it another try in some time though. And S3 had something about the story, that kept me hooked
