With 'Bangkok Pat'. Sukhumvit Road: Let's look back. The future is uncertain, we can't look forward, so let's look back for 10 minutes. Nana to Asok is probably the most famous part of Sukhumvit Road, and it's changed a lot in the last few decades. From it's beginnings 50yrs ago and the history of its name, we look at how it's changed, the streets, the traffic, the skytrain, the buildings, the nightlife, as well as a few headlines and urban legends.

I remember when the lower Sukhumvit Road area was quite different than today. As seen in some of the clips in this video, there was no sky train. Some of the places I stayed at were the Miami Hotel and the Atlanta Hotel. But my favorite haunt was The Mermaid's Rest on Soi 8 just a short way off Sukhumvit Road. The Mermaid's Rest was like a quiet oasis with very friendly staff. It was located where Monsoon's is now. By the early 1990's, smog was thick in Bangkok, and quite noticeable in the Sukhumvit Road area. At various points along Sukhumvit there were foot bridges crossing the road. Traffic was pretty thick most of the time, so it was risky to cross the road on foot at most intersections. All in all, it was an enjoyable area.

Thanks for this great history. I visited there in the 1970’s during the war. Being only 19, I had an awesome time with some hot young ladies in Patpong. I took no photos. But I still have some “wet dreams/flashbacks” that involve my memories of that exciting time in my youth. Thankfully, no hangovers! There is only one Bangkok in the World. I don’t think the World could handle more than one! Lol!

Nice informative video. For future videos of this nature I would suggest to improve the introduction and add a conclusion section - which was missing. It would have been nice for The Thaiger team to have added a post conclusion section which could have stated, "Ladies and Gentlemen, the next segment of Bangkok Pat will be about bla blah bla next week....." To give a sense of continuity, as the way that this video concluded it leaves the viewer wondering if it was truncated accidentally by RU-vid. Anyway, thanks for this new initiative :>))

My first of twelve trips to Thailand was way back in 1993 just prior to the construction of the BTS. I vividly remember the construction of the BTS columns down Sukhumvit during my second trip in December of 1995. It is important to note and remember that most vehicles back then were still using leaded gasoline which created plumes of thick smoke! A couple of your historical video clips captures this! Those days of leaded gasoline were extremely intense and the smell was strong. Back in the day, I believe that I’ve visited just about every venue shown and talked about in this episode. What a fantastic trip down memory lane!
