The Columbia Cougar Flats II Family Tent is TOUGH! Take a look for yourself... But such a large SAIL of a tent should never be put in such extreme weather, but sometimes it just happens, and it is good to know that it can take a beating like this...

I still have my Columbia Cougar Flats ll tent to this day and still use it camping. Love it love it shame they do not make them with awnings in present day version.

The tent survived! But we didn't... The winds slammed our tent all night making sleep impossible... Then, contrary to weather reports, the wind got WORSE the next day... Our poor tent couldn't handle it any longer... We broke camp and went back home to finish up Sukkot in our backyard... And finish up our trailer...

The other tents look like they are unaffected in that wind. Coleman really does make crappy tents. lol

That Coleman tent actually impressed the heck out of me surviving that wind all night! Any other "unaffected" tents you saw were only because they had trees to block the wind coming up the mountain face and funneling through our sites open location. We were just in the wrong site on the wrong day with the wrong conditions. The tent was awesome and still is, I still have it and use it.

Coleman may be improving some of the technology since the Cougar Flats II, but no tent has equaled the design of this one. The huge screen on what I call the living room end is a winning feature. I don't know why they have reduced window sizes in newer models. Also, the little ground level vents on either side of the bedroom end provide great air motion when it's desired to keep regular windows closed. Just don't have them open when raining. We love our Cougar Flats so much that I put a massive tarp over it to protect it from not only rain, dirty rain, but the dirty water that falls from trees or whatever. It also protects from sun damage. The super large tarp over the CF2 allows for all windows to be completely open during a downpour. I make sure the poles, anchor trees attachment points are fairly high and use more stakes to rope down drain valleys so that absolutely no water puddles and causes sagging. Coleman needs to use their new technology and bring back the Cougar Flats II. Our tent is in use 8-10 days every year. I got 3 ground tarps, made especially for this tent, from Amazon.com. Two are still in their shipping bags, in storage. It's a pity Coleman no longer offers this best design they ever made, in my opinion.
