Im into my first Shasta now. It's a 57 and it's been a real eye opener. Just about everything in the bottom of the trailer was rotten and it's all about how they built them. Cheapest production trailers that were ever produced as far as I can see.
@WWYDdotORG Oh they kept the weight down just fine. And the construction techniques are kind of a unibody type thing. But they really cheaped out on the flooring and the wall construction. Many of the better built trailers have two inch walls and 3/4 inch thick plywood floors. Shastas are the most popular trailers though. So we keep restoring them.
@mobiltec I don't know how they did it in '57, but I have seen far poor constructed trailers than a Shasta... As for mine, to keep the weight down, I don't see how they could have done much differently with the building materials thay had in those days...
