Knowing the context of this. She couldn’t sleep after John passed from covid and the only thing she could do was pick her old guitar up and sing his songs. This is true emotion.
Thanks Brandi. I know that was out of unbearable love. Please don't stop playing his music. Good friends like you will keep his music and memories alive. Thank you sister. Patrick
Oh Brandi this is out of this world ,, I play this song a lot, it's been my favorite to perform at zoom jams, I saw john live 30+ years ago, that was one of those concerts you never forget, I've been playing guitar since the 60's and he's one of my hero's !! Thanks Brandi and John for inspiration
I remember when Brandi shot this video in her grief, soon after Prine's death from Covid in a Music City Nashville hospital. He died a few miles from me. I heard him sing this song more than once on The Ryman stage. I am so glad we bought those tickets. One of my favorite songs, and beautifully, soulfully, and respectfully sung by Brandi.
@Eugene Shannon you are wrong. Prine previously had throat cancer. He had surgery and was doing quite well touring with his latest record. He had covid, was treated a Vanderbilt Hospital, and died FROM COVID 19. Stop spreading mis-information. Stop denying the existence of a pandemic.
@Eugene Shannon why are you commenting here? John Prine was a gifted songwriter and singer. Brandi Carlile has recorded a video of one of his sweetest songs. He was precious and will be missed by the world, but especially his family. He died from COVID19. Period. Stop with your stupid political angle. Stop spreading lies. Get a life that means more. Get a life with grace. You and others like you are full of hate and fear for whatever personal reason. BUT, YOU CAN GROW. I wish you all good things in your life, but mostly enlightenment to the beauty that surrounds you.
Of all the covers of this song, sorry, yours is in a different league. Your feeling, compassion and ability to communicate this to us is unique among these efforts. It's like you have a personal connection to the song because your eyes water and you take it to another level.
What an awesome cover, seems like she was connected to John as he left this place….all of us Prine listeners cry along with her as we mourn one more loss in this world. Thanks John for all the life lessons you regaled us with……
The months have gone by and it still doesnt seem right that John is gone. I guess that feeling is shared by the loved ones of over 209,000 people lost in this country since this the pandemic exploded. I knew John Prine only by his work, but neither he nor any of those who perished are nobodies.
