Unprecedented challenges can lead to innovative solutions. This summer, over 100 private, public, and philanthropic organizations joined forces to support New York City teens after the City canceled an internship program that primarily served Black and brown young people. The result was the Youth Empowerment Summer (YES), a model for virtual learning that enabled the City to provide paid career preparation opportunities to 35,000 people through a program known as SYEP Summer Bridge 2020.
On October 21, 2020, ExpandED held a panel discussion to discuss the summer and how tri-sector collaborations can further address the many problems and issues New York City young people are facing.
