Hello Lyle. Small item you likely do not know. My Dad Omer LaRue, a GM photographer for 43 years with GM, took a picture of one of the first Corvettes off the assembly line in 1953 at the Flint assembly plant with a number GM Execs is the picture. Also a good friend of my Dad was Myron C. Scott, also with GM. Mr. Scott named the Corvette via a GM naming contest. Also Mr. Scott started the Soapbox Derby around 1934. Scottie is well known on Google history. My Dad did the Soapbox Derby photography for most of those years. Cheers. I very much enjoy your podcasts, and have learned a lot. Thank you.

Also after you're done cleaning all the stuff on the outside you can also run to Menards and grab a can of coil cleaner in their heating and air conditioning department for $5 and spray down your condenser and your radiator. Let it soak in and then rinse it out. You could also do that to your evaporator if you're inside there also. Coil cleaner works great.

Just need to drop a quick note to Lyle. You are awesome and a blessing to everyone who watches your videos. I just realized a 40 plus year dream and purchased my first corvette. A 2006 C6. I have faithfully watched your videos for about 6 months. What to look for, what to avoid, foibles, etc. I am SO thankful. Keep on with all of the amazingly helpful content. You are an amazing teacher and value to anyone who owns a corvette. Just a small thank you for all you do. MC from Wilmington NC.

Great video Lyle. Happy 4th ! I have a standard sunshade for my 2002 Lexus ES300 which I use religiously when I’m golfing and my car happens to be in the sun for up to 5 hours. My black dash thanks me every time! Just Started saving for my 2017-18 C7 (or a Lexus RCF) ! Looking at about 36 months to save up enough so my future loan payment will match my current monthly savings amount. Still leaning towards a manual C7 non Z51. Another option I was thinking of is a 18-19 Mustang GT. Not entirely convinced of its Reliability in comparison to a 2017-18 manual C7. Any feedback is appreciated! Thanks!

Thanks Lyle! I have a C4 and when going through my Maintenace of everything Starting with tires and brakes. I was all over the bottom to check things out. I noticed the inlet to the radiator was full of something that looked like cat hair? packed up there like the C5 you showed with leaves. Odd but no issue just vacuum the stuff out but missed checking in between the rad. and condenser! with new hoses, thermostat, and 2 flushes it run a little warmer I believe is due to having a 190 instead of the 160 that someone had installed. It doesn't get crazy hot and both fans kick in as required. It's getting warmer up in Oregon, but not as toasty as you folks down south. Stay cool and thanks for the heads up!

Lyle, here are a few additional ways an owner can keep his car running cooler. One, install a Big Mouth Air Dam in place of the rubber center dam and cover opening with perforated grill cloth. Two, drain coolant, flush system and refill with Evans Waterless Coolant. Three, replace radiator with an aluminum unit.

Lyle, thank you for the great video. I'm a new C6 owner. You mentioned it is cause for concern when the temperature of the coolant starts getting up to 220' f. I have heard you comment in another video as a caution against changing the thermostat that these cars run hot naturally (thus changing the thermostat is a bad idea). When warm my Corvette routinely reaches this temperature and the radiator fans will then kick on. Is 220' f, where the temperature needle is pointing straight up, cause for concern? OR were you merely using this temperature hyperbolically for effect and, other than making sure I don't have rabbits & whatnot occluding my condenser and radiator, 220' f is okay in a C6 with LS3? Have a great Independence Day!
@csvette
@csvette 2 года назад
220 is just fine for a C4/C5/C6--as you surmised, I was just using that random temp for effect. Lyle :)
@salvadormonella8953
@salvadormonella8953 2 года назад
@@csvette Thanks! In another video you talked about making sure the radiator is clean. I hose mine off from the front of the car. That's good, but there's a huge chunk of the radiator you can't really see if you look into the radiator opening in the bumper cover that serves as the radiator's main source of flowing air. I only noticed it because I had the car up on ramps to work on fixing a front-brake cooling inlet, and so I worked like crazy with a vacuum cleaner & a hose on that top barely visible section of the radiator and it dropped my temps by 10-20 degrees, just from that little chunk of cooling area. I guess there's a reason the radiator is the size it is! ;-) I understand why Corvette drivers tend to be fanatics. It's hard to be a casual Corvette owner/driver. The car is unlike anything I've owned or worked on. I have so many questions about the car it's crazy. Like when did they go metric on bolt/nut sizes? How clunky should manual shifting be? Who developed CAGS & shouldn't they go to Hell first? What should my gas mileage really be? How can I just run the fan without putting the A/C on? Should I lubricate the bushings? How can I tell if my (used) 'Vette has been lowered? How do I clean my intake manifold without removing it? Why do the back brakes have cooling ducts but the front one's don't (on base model)? Why are people so in love with the HUD? And many other questions. I used to have 3X as many questions, but I've worked through many of them and I now seem to know more than many long-time Corvette owners. Thanks for the videos. They are some of the most informative on youtube related to 'Vettes. They make me wish I lived in Sarasota.

Sadly soon all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!!!!!
