Sun Wukong Somersaults into DEATH BATTLE! 

As Overly Sarcastic Productions said, Monkey pretty much used every EVERY possible cheat code for immortality. I don't know how Herc is suppoused to take him down

Ive actually read "Journey to the West," written by Wu Cheng-en, the author who came up with Sun Wukong. He is *ridiculously* overpowered, has almost no weaknesses an enemy can exploit (aside from a sensitivity to smoke, and his own arrogance... And Buddha's hand), and, yes, has multiple forms of immortality. Buffs stack, y'all.

I'm going with the Monkey King over Hercules, he was a God killer, and the feats in Journey to the West are totally bonkers, it does read like a Shonen anime or western super hero comic.

Hercules: "How many times immortal are you?" Sun Wukong: "Yes."

This makes me excited to see more mythological characters in Death Battle.

He’s so immortal that a container made specifically to break down Immortality just made him even more immortal. Rip Heracles. You’re strong but your not killing this dude.

Sun Wukong is not "Just Shounen anime" He is the ORIGIN of Shounen anime tropes

Monkey King is basically like that kid on playground who gave himself immune to everything armor when you played tag.

Double immortal is underselling it. They didn’t even touch on the Stone Peaches, his Resurrection/life force manipulation magic (chi in this case) And the fact that every clone he creates encompasses an extra life for Sun Wukong if he would EVER die and said clones are direct equals to Sun Wukong so any of them can also use his life manipulation magic to resurrect the original Sun Wukong as well and vice versa. This is what makes me think sun Wukong will win cause despite being completely Immortal, Sun Wukong has multiple fail safes for any situation where he can literally die and those situations are VERY rare.

"This is just Shonen anime" He's kinda not wrong. Journey to the West inspired a lot of Shonen (and some seinen) tropes. So many, that the lost would reach the tip of the Pillars of the universe (or one Buddha finger)

All superhero comics stemmed from the legends Hercules . All shonen manga stemmed from the legends of Sun Wukong. These are truly the granddaddies of them all.

Sun Wukong, the originator of the term "monkey see, monkey do". This should be the most interesting Death Battle fight in years. In fact, you might say it will be the Death Battle for the ages... ...quite literally.

Hercules, through his journey became a God. Wukong, through his journey, grew beyond Godhood.

Quite literally the most powerful non-omnipotent character in all of fiction. Wonder how Hercules will fair against him

Honestly this is just a stomp for Wukong. Especially so when you consider that at the end of Journey to the West, Wukong became a Buddha, meaning he is omniscient and almost omnipotent to boot, likely removing any prior weakness such as not being able to swim/fight underwater effectively or being vulnerable to the True Samadhi Fire.

This will be an interesting fight. They're basically the embodiment of what each half of the land mass viewed as strong. The Western lands saw power and deeds as more important, while the Eastern put more emphasis on status and intellect.

Anyone who knows Journey to the West knows Sun Wukong is unstoppable. He has, like, 5 different forms of immortality. You can cut off his head and he'll just grow a new one. He erased his name from the Book of the Dead, preventing him from dying. All of heavens forces (every single one) fought him and they all failed. Buddha couldn't even kill him and just had to seal him away. The only thing resembling a weakness is water and even then, he has the Water Avoidance Charm.

Pretty cool of Lego getting the historical stories of Sun Wukong accurate for what is basically a continuation. Monkie Kid is pretty dope

Hercules: I lifted up the entire universe, how about you? Sun Wukong: I am friends with the guy (Buddha) who owns that universe, and marked my name at the end of it

I'm betting woukong is going to roll. His whole thing is being more immortal than any god

how this fair at all this guy's immortal he can't die. well I had hopes for Hercules not anymore.

Finally, a Death Battle you could just solve via playing a match in Smite.

One issue I have with this analysis is that the rod Wukong has is described in some versions of the Journey to the West as stone weighing as much as a galaxy, and that he literally forced it into the shape of a rod when he touched the stone. It's much, *much* heavier than 8 tons.

The Journey to the West was the inspiration for Shonen anime in general, and it's well known that Sun himself is the inspiration for Goku.

There is a Japanese series called "Monkey" or "Monkey Magic" that has been repeated dubbed on many English language television stations since the 1970s and I think is on Netflix now. It is absolutely insane and great for learning quickly about why he's so interesting.

For those who are wondering about the immotality part, there two way of explaining it (atleast to me). The first one is that he possess multiple forms of it (ex: immunity to aging at first, physical one after eating the peach, preventing his soul being seperated from his body, etc...). The second is that his immortality act as multiple layers.

My big question is how Herc's "Holding the Sky" feat will be interpreted as. I mean, going off of the normal universe, that seems pretty damn impressive to hold every planet, sun and celestial mass in existence. But going off of the way mythology viewed the universe, as the world as a big flat disk and the stars and planets above just being dots? Not nearly as impressive.

I really hope this episode does well so we get more matchups like this.

Into perspective, let’s just remember that the Jade Emperor, basically king of all gods and celestial entities had to beseech Lord Buddha to contain Wukong. Not even Nezha, Erlang Shen or the Dragon Kings and hosts of powerful demons could touch him. His headband even though a weakness is only controlled by one monk. And literally is immortal several times over what other gods are.

Sun Wukong should take this one easy. Multiple levels of immortality, 76 magical transformations, incredible martial arts skill, a weapon that weighs multiple tons that he can swing with ease, and by the end of his journey he had achieved a level of enlightenment that granted him near omnipotence.

Part of me is hoping that OSP’s Red makes a cameo in this episode

It's cool to see them doing a historical/ mythic battle. I'm here for it. Can't wait for the full episode

I hope we get a scene in the fight where Hercules/Heracles throws a mountain and put wukong under it only for wukong to throw the mountain away/break free and says something like "nice try buddy but I've been hit by a heavier mountain before"

I was surprised when Death Battle announced that they were putting two actual mythological figures against each others, i'm looking foward for this fight.

Fun Fact: Son Wukong is actually a character that was created based on *Hanuman,* the monkey deity of Sanskrit Culture.

Imagine if Death Battle did a three-way fight (or maybe even more!) of a bunch of different mythologically accurate trickster gods: Loki VS Coyote VS Anansi

I really hoped that they mention that wukong pissed on the Buddha's finger after racing to the edge of the universe just because he made a bet with him

If they do another one of these types of matchups, PLEASE do Achilles vs Cu Chulainn. Both of them are crazy, anger-driven one man armies that can hold off entire armies on their own.

Heracles was killed by poison arrows. Sun Wukong spent 500 years trapped under a mountain being fed molten copper every day and afterwards he was mostly just annoyed. This is about as even a match as Omni-Man vs Homelander

I kind of want Sun Wukong to be voiced by Team Four Star's MasakoX. Just as a fun reference to Son Goku being based on Sun Wukong.

I...literally don't know how Hercules even fights here. He's usually characterized as pretty damn average as far as heroes go. Sun Wukong is...COMICALLY absurd.

To expand on this, Wiz and Boomstick forgot to mention that Sun Wukong only knows 72 transformations which allow him to access 72 unique powers, including the ability to transform into sundry animals and objects. A Li is 500 meters and 108,000 li converted into miles is exactly 33,554.088 miles. He also shows partial weather manipulation skills and can stop people in place with fixing magic. Sun Wukong is also extremely strong, able to easily lift his staff, the Ruyi Jingu Bang, which was said to weigh 13,500 [catties] (Note: Anthony Yu's original translation uses the word "pounds" (Wu and Yu, Journey to the West (Vol. 1), 104). However, Chinese versions of the novel use jin (斤). Jin and pound are two different measures of weight, the former being heavier than the latter. Therefore, the English text has been altered to show this.) The jin during the Ming Dynasty when the novel was compiled equaled 590 grams, which means Wukong's staff weighed exactly 17,559.7983 lbs. Also, as to the somersault, Sun Wukong is extremely fast, able to travel 108,000 li (54,000 km, 33,554.088 mi) in one somersault. However, it's never specified exactly how long each somersault takes. It's just known that Wukong is able to travel 54,000 km in somersault, the duration of the somersault is not given. I know everyone's excited about how Wukong is immortal many times over, but don't let that distract you from the fact that he pissed and graffitied on the Buddha's hand and almost got away with it. edit: I'm disappointed in these replies aside from one.

Ahh Sun Wukong... The only character in any story that is so powerful, he needed a literal balance patch.

As a Sun Wukong simp and lore expert. All he really has to do to beat herc...is take a hair of his body. According to his lore his hair can turn into anything and multiply the power of what it turned into infinitely the only exception being the jade emperor and buddha himself or omnipotent being's....and that's just for people that happen to be stronger than him and give him trouble..which is basically no one. Also with sun being a total troll n trickster he could literally make herc fight a clone of himself the entire time and just sit and watch and learn his style and bam...herc dead. And herc has been shown multiple times falling victim to tricks and illusions.

I definitely look forward to this one!

The heroes that inspired many heroes after, the greatest in all of myth and legend, East vs West, this will be a match to remember, the greatest battle in death battle history, possibly even matching Segata vs Chuck Norris who to our knowledge still battle to this day, more so than Goku vs Superman of which draw inspiration from these mythical heroes.

This sounds like an interesting one. Hercules has the strength, while Sun Wukong has the speed. Depending on how well that balances out, it's likely to boil down to whether Hercules even has a way to finish off Sun Wukong, given all the ways he's found to make himself immortal. Currently doubt it, but Death Battle does like to save a few vital details for the official video. Guess we'll just have to see!

Then there's the immortalities from the wine, pills, and peaches he gobbled down after getting bored with his stable job. Then depending on tellings there's the one from that boiling vessel that did the opposite of what it was suppose to do with removing his immortality. There's also supposed to be another but I forgot what it was. Appropriately he also rewarded one of the Immortals for entertainingly stumbling into immortality while drunk but i can't remember much else beyond that. He also was fast enough to race to the edge of the universe while being chased by the universe itself. He still was caught but he still did it. Seems like the theme this season is "curbstomps". Herakles only has the Hydra arrows as his only advantage and even those are dubious as to if they would _do_ anything. The only time those are ever used is on things like metal birds and Herakles himself and Chiron gave up his immortality due to it being incapable of killing him (but Monkey had a similar thing with a scorpion that had an invisible tail and almost immediately recovered from that so...). In some tellings Herakles became a god after dying, others had his mortal and divine halves split with his mortal sitting on the banks of the Styx for eternity, and other tellings have him stay dead with nothing afterwards. You could scale his strength to the Atlas mountain range and Gibraltar for being able to hold up the sky or make him weaker by having him only able to punch through one mountain but I don't know how that would scale to Monkey yeeting his own mountain after the seal was removed or the measuring pole (assuming the weight stays consistent regardless of size). The lion skin won't even factor in given its one weakness is all of Monkey's arsenal.

Gonna eat my hat if Heracles wins this. There's just no possible way.

I wish OSP got to collab with these guys so they could be as accurate as possible. I will not be satisfied until they mention that Sun Wukong is immortal 5 times over

I'm so excited for this. I've been requesting Sun Wukong for a Death Battle for years... Of course, when I have, I've been pitting him up against Kratos, Asura, Thor, Goku, Superman or The God Emperor of Mankind.

Can’t wait for this episode. Sun Wukong is one of my favorite Mythical legends.

I couldn't help but notice they keep bringing up how Sun Wukong has a massive ego. I feel like that's going to come into play when the battle happens. Remember. Killing Wukong may be impossible . . . but achieving the impossible is what Hercules is all about.

I never would've expected that they'd have characters of myth and legend appear in Death Battle based on their original mythologies rather than a media version inspired by said myths and legends (like Marvel's Thor).

Sun Wukong to every Shounen anime/manga: "look what they need to mimic a fraction of our power" The father of all of shounen and still one of (if not) the strongest non omnipotent character in all of fiction.

This fight is unfair for the sole reason that sunwukong eventually becomes the victorious fighting Buddha which means he’s a part of the Buddha. In his mythology the Buddha is beyond omega levels and Hercules never beat the king of his gods let alone became a part of Zeus. So I’m pretty sure sunwukong got this one.

Sun, jumped to the edge of the universe in a single bound and is five times immortal But you can tell by this video how the battle will go. DB will wrongfully claim the immortal Sun Wukong would lose.

Sun Wukong is immune to death in the same way that Fan Rotom with an Air Ballon is immune to Ground-type moves. How is this a balanced matchup?

This is actually really quite a fascinating matchup. Also, I feel like there aren't as many fanboys who'd get salty when it's myths this old. That said, I'm probably team Sun Wukong in this. The only thing Heracles possibly has is the hydra poison and the part where he held up the sky, but even then, the guy is like 7 times immortal in total.

In Journey to the west there were some villains Sun had problems with. Red Boy overpowered him with supernatural fire. But most of them either used special weapons to stop Sun or dove underwater to avoid Sun because he can't swim.

I love how Death Battle uses traditional Chinese art and theatre in addition to movies and cartoons. I hope Sun Wukong’s depiction in American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang makes an appearance.

I would have pitted the Monkey King against another trickster like Loki, Coyote or Kwaku Anasi (possibly in a battle royale), but given his vast array of stupendous powers, Hercules might be the right opponent for him.

I saw that Monkie Kid clip in here, someone on the Death Battle editing team has excellent taste

Got a gut feeling that they’re gonna find some obscure thing that they will hype up as being able to let Heracles pull the win. They also mentioned that Wukong is arrogant and narcissistic here so that could be another set up for his downfall. Goin’ with a 80% chance for Wukong to sweep and a 20% for Heracles to somehow pull thru since this could be an underdog victory they’re cooking up.

If there's any deciding factor between the two, I'd think it would be the fact that Hercules often receives the help of Gods to complete his great trials. whereas Sun Wukong tends not to need such assistance, at least from what I know of the two, which is very basic.

"Okay, we've got a headstrong goofball who quickly masters new powers and wants a fancy title. This is just shonen anime!" Yes... yes it is. Seriously, how many shonen protagonists out there are basically a variation on Sun Wukong? The line doesn't even begin behind Goku.

Combined with Hercules’s preview on Monday, this is really shaping up to be a battle of the Gods! I’m super hype!

I will be very impressed if Herc actually manages to put up a fight. The only person who ever actually put Sun Wukong in his place was literally Buddha he who is above the gods and holds the universe in the palm of his hand.
