Minister of State for Home Affairs and Social and Family Development Sun Xueling spoke in the Parliament debate on Monday (Nov 28) on repealing Section 377A, the law criminalising gay sex in Singapore, and another Bill to protect the definition of marriage from legal challenges.
Speaking in Mandarin, Ms Sun said the two Bills are one legislative package and cannot be separated. "On one hand, repealing Section 377A will better protect the freedom and rights of individuals and reduce social pressure on homosexuals. Are the other hand, upholding the institution of marriage will help to maintain the stability of the relevant laws and policies and reduce the worries of various ethnic groups."
