I have sensitive skin, I burned my face from just driving and had to go full sunburn treatment when I got home. I wasn't even under the sun, the sunlight never touched my face but my cheeks where very pink, warm and itchy. It was a 15 minute ride and suffered the whole day. Always carry with you some sun protection.

I never sit in the sun but yesterday I went to the beach and got bright pink on the outside of my shoulders ...I was soooo upset as I didn’t realize this until I had gotten home. I looked around for something to put on it and remembered that you had said the CerVe night cream creates a good barrier on your skin. I’ve been putting it on my shoulders and it felt good and did not sting. Today I found this video and was surprised you recommended it for a burn! God bless and thank you!!

I just got burned really bad in florida before I found your videos. :( I used aloe, castor oil, and glycerin and it’s helped a lot. But now I’m so worried about the damage I did to my skin because my skin dried right out and peeled off. So bad. I learned my lesson and I will be more careful in the future and I am going to make sure I start wearing more sunscreen. I have acne prone skin and I find that the zinc oxide sunscreens don’t break me out all, thankfully. :) I really like the sunscreen by Derma E. It leaves kind of a white film but I don’t because it doesn’t break me out.

Growing up my grandma would have us put aloe (right from the plant) on a variety of minor skin issues : burns, mosquito bites, sunburn, scrapes. I never quite enjoyed it because of the slimeyness of it all and when it dried on the skin, but it did work. Really a great plant to have around. Useful for a variety of skin issues . Thank you Dr. Dray! I was badly sunburned yesterday despite using sunscreen with reapplication every 30 minutes. I would love to know your thoughts on using aloe vera gel straight from the plant itself. I'm soothing with a family recipe of aloe plant gel mixed with a little water; placed in the freezer until it's a slushy mixture and slathering it on my burns; then covering it with wet, cold hand towels. I will be indoors until Monday, but will be trying a different sunscreen. Yesterday, the sun killed my Neutrogena Sport Sunscreen...smh

Dray OMG 😲 This makes me so sad! I have had so many sun burns then! I'm pretty sure you and I are the same age, and growing up my parents NEVER put sunscreen on me. Plus, I have pretty pale skin and always thought the redness was just me hot. Do you have specific things for me to check whether it is me turning red from being hot or starting to burn? I ask that because I am so much better about covering up, but my Kids are both light skinned and are doing lots of things out doors. I try my best, but when my Mom has them she is not the best. She literally tells me I'm over dramatic about my kids and rolls her eyes and tells me a little sun is good for them. But her thoughts of a little sun is totally not what mine is. Hi Dr. Dray, great video as always! I burnt my arm two days ago on a hot pan while cooking and while it seems like its a minor superficial burn it's long and gotten dark. I've been putting pure aloe on it and wrapping it in gauze. My main concern is preventing a scar. Do you know if I would have better results using silicone sheets on it instead of the aloe to help with scarring? My Mom used them on a face burn and she had great results. But I'm not sure which approach to take to prevent a scar.

Can i use Aloe as a moisturizer ? ?

What about a burn gel with lidocaine? I have a bad sunburn and the pharmacy recommended this aloe based lidocaine gel?

Raised in Southern California near the beach in the 1960s-'70s, we used to use baby oil, olive oil, or Bain de Sole and bake in the sun. Before I was 10, I had some memorable burns with blistering. The only "sun protection" I remember at the time was Coppertone ("Tan, don't burn, use Coppertone!"). I'm your basic white, white girl and could never tan so by age 20, I accepted that fact an stayed out of the sun and went with the pale look and have never looked back. I've have some laser resurfacing and spot treatments on my whole body to rid myself of the damage that now appears. In the 1960s, people were urged to go outside and play, however long, in the sun. Sun protection wasn't a topic or stressed. We usually put our initial coat of Coppertone on then put zinc oxide on our nose and lower lip and that was it. You'd see kids at the beach running around with a stark white nose and lips contrasted usually, by tans or deep red skin. Believe me, those burns were extremely painful for days. I spent a lot of time in a cool bath, using cool compresses, and aloe vera gel. One good thing is my dad would be angry if we came home with a sunburn so in our teen years we kept that in the back of our minds and do what we could to prevent a burn. He was the only person I remember, until the 1980s, that mentioned sun protection. So Dr. Dray, the reason you get asked questions about certain creams, serums, Vit. C, Retin-A, chemical peels, and laser procedures. The damage has been done long ago (probably before you were born) and now the results of that damage are present and we need different advise than a teen with acne or someone with dry skin.

You mentioned keeping the CeraVe tub in the fridge. What about the Aloe Vera gel?

Some people feel like they have a sunburn due to poisoning. I also want to mention if you’re running an ozone generator or UV lights then you could also have this symptom.

Great video on post burn care Dr Dray! I am a 47 year old female with Fitzpatrick type I skin. I will burn in less than 15 minutes of sun exposure. I have photodamaged skin and it has become sallow with spotty hyperpigmentation. My dermatologist prescribed Tri Luma but it is very expensive even with a discount card. I would like to try Differin and Porcelana cream (for the 2% Hydroquinone) as a substitute. I realize there is no data for efficacy in combining the two but I would like to try it. How would you recommend usage and which should be applied first? I have been using Differin (thanks for introducing me) every other night with no problems for one month. I have a question though. I recently got a sun burn on skin I got sunburned a few months earlier (Both times I agreed to work on some shows and was not aware I would be out in the sun so long without sunscreen- now I will carry a small sunscreen container with me on every set regardless) and I am worried about getting cancer or any issues that may arise- I don't usually get sun burn- these were my 3rd and 4th in my life that I know of- can I check the DNA health of my skin? Also why do we use anti-inflammatory if the inflammation is to drive blood to the area for repair? Just curious as I can't figure it out. Thank you very much!

I slightly burned my skin and got scared to burn it any worse so I repeatedly lathered Aloe Vera after sun care, and lots of sunscreen. (I wasn't able to get out of the sun because I wasn't in control of how long I was outside) but I still got severely burned. My skin was tight and rough, with a gross texture. But only my face, no where else burned thankfully. Anyways, My acne got much worse and flakiness and oiliness also increased. My skin is severely damaged but I have no idea how to help that. I have a dermatologist appointment for something else, I should definitely mention it right? oh also: is lidocaine products bad for your skin or sunburn?

Hi Dr Dray! Was wondering if you could take a look at Dr Ci Labo, it's a Japanese brand created by a dermatologist (cosmeceutical, i think). Their products come with a hefty list of ingredients that include a lot of your favorite ingredients like ceramides and hyaluronic acid. They do have a star product, the bihaku moisture gel, but I was most interested in their sensitive skincare line (they look like they have a very promising sunscreen there chockfull of ceramides!) Bottomline, I thought you might be interested in these 'multfunctional' products, and was wanting to know if there is such a thing as too much good actives in a skincare product! PS, you might need google translate to look at their list of ingredients, the products I mentioned seems to only be available on their official Japanese webpage >.

I get sunburn easily, i only get sunburns if i go to my aunt's pool, i am watching this while having sunburn in fact, i've had it for a day. The old wives tail says not to put any lotion on a sunburn because it will "hold the heat in" and worsen the burn. I call BS on that; what say you? I swear by chilled Cera Ve body moisturizing lotion in the pump bottle on damp skin on the rare occasions when I over indulge at the beach ;)
