The Sunjoe got an upgrade! Sunjoe Front Roller Mod baby! I was trying to figure a way to make it no drill bolt on… but… I couldn’t wait any longer and just drilled the bad boy! This is how I did my Sunjoe Front Roller Mod! Enjoy my dudes!

I want to get an earth wise 7 blade or the sun Joe. Looking at putting a front roller as well as back. I am new to reel mowing, what height does the front roller need to be at? Is it just set to the same height as the regular wheels? The back roller is what moves and changes the HOC? Trying to just get an understanding of the mechanics.

Did the same route you did. Just got my Fiskers reel mower. But took off front wheels, put on bed casters (6) with a 5/16 threaded rod, can now cut 3/8". Next trick add rear roller. May go with Sun Joe next will see how the Fiskers goes. Love your channel

Great work- and love your upbeat positive attitude! The challenge- and maybe I'm the only one who experiences this-- is that the front roller presses the grass blades downwards at the precise moment that they need to be sticking straight up to be cut properly by the reel and bed knife. I can see that your grass type is particularly thick and healthy, and probably bounces straight back up, or maybe you compensate with a second, perpendicular, pass. In any case, you're going to laugh- but what I really need is a mod that eliminates or minimizes the rollers to avoid flattening the grass while the mower is passing over it. Thanks so much again! PS- just stumbled upon an image of the Fiskars product and I'm guessing this must be why their design uses two protruding front wheels- but, man, it looks cumbersome and severely limits how close you can push that front edge of the mower up to, say, a wall or sprinkler head.

Yeah I’ve always thought the same about front rollers… I have been looking at grooved type rollers but can’t find the right one to pop on! You might want to try and stretch a push broom to the front I heard that works well but also pushes it down 😂 grooved roller would be best for sure though 😊🙏🏾🤙🏾🔥

@@YardBrah I feel your frustration on the McLane, I bought one that didn’t run and overhauled everything. It takes some time and a little $$, (and a few cuss words) but it’ll be worth it. I thought I noticed your main chain fairly loose, might wanna try and adjust it to get it a little tighter. That might be a reason it stops when you were trying to mow. Not only did this help mine with some scalping, it also changed up weight distribution and really brought out the stirpes. Do the wheel delete too and it's awesome.

@@robertocorreagonzalez6607 When adding the front roller you can remove the side wheels. Puts all the weight then on the front and rear roller. You do lose the ability to use as a push mower when the battery dies.

@@robertocorrea9364 I can try to pull measurements off. I just kinda eyeballed it. I found it easiest is to drill the 2 holes in the roller bracket sides first. Then line up the bracket and roller to the desired position and them mark the holes in the mower body. A jig for all this would be handy though.

How does the front roller/ground contact look when adjusting through different mow heights? Any thoughts on whether mounting the roller a little farther forward (similar to Fisk at mods) would be more beneficial?

It’s def effects the positioning on various heights I keep it at 1.1 inches so it rolls the grass at the lowest setting and the 2nd lowest setting. If you mount the bracket horizontal and more forward I could see some benefit so height adjustments 😊🙌🏾🤙🏾🙏🏾

Bought the roller last year but never got around to installing it and looking to do so this weekend! Question: how long are the 1/4" and 3/8" bolts? I imagine the length is critical so there is no interference when you put the wheel back on. Appreciate the video, man!

I am about to do this. Parts on the way. Wheels will stay so that it can be run w/o the battery. Sometimes I run out of battery just before I finish. So have to finish up with it as a push mower.

Anti scalp, say if your wheel goes up and you don’t have a roller the blade cuts the grass shorter as you’re going forward, in the video you can see when I mow and the wheel comes off the ground the roller is there to help aid in not scalping the grass 😊🙌🏾🤙🏾🙏🏾

Well…. It really just depends on the height of cut… if you’re cutting super low go to the lowest setting then install it… I installed it at the 2nd to last so about an 1” cut 😊🙏🏾🤙🏾🔥

If you take off the wheels it def gets way lower but you have to have the front and reel rollers to act like wheels. Yes top thicker bolts are 3/8 and the smaller lower are 1/4 any thread pattern will work as long as your nuts are the same 😊🙌🏾🤙🏾🙏🏾

Purchased one of these units in August. Worked like a champ for a bit then motor just stopped working. Sun Joe is out of stock and can't do a warranty replacement. Anyone else have this issue??

Will v2.0 be roller only and ditch the wheels? Front roller on an adjustable rail like a John Deere greensmower. No wheels. You don’t need the self propulsion with your yard.

Nub at reel mowing here. What does that front roller do?

Prevents the blades from scalping the lawn... for instance on the corner edges of the lawn the mowers wheel doesn't touch the ground so the blade would come down lower and cut the grass shorter than you would want scalping the lawn so the roller aids in even coverage. Also aids the rear rollers for some nice striping 😊🙏🏾🙌🏾🤙🏾

Any tips on how to prevent wood chips from getting stuck between the blade and bed knife? I'd imagine it'll blow a fuse or burn-out motors when it happens.
