Sunnyslope is classic Suburbia. It's very car-focused, virtually no walkability, and little to no access to public transit. Due to poor development guidelines, there are very few parks compared to other neighborhoods and the proximity of houses to their property lines is minimal. Expect your next door neighbor to be very, very close, but in a bad way. This neighborhood represents an excellent example of California Sprawl. If that's your thing, go for it.

@@SalemORMy family lived in Salem for a few generations, though I no longer do for work reasons. I visit quite frequently, though. Best is subjective, of course, since everyone has different housing needs, evolving as time passes. I grew up at the base of Fairmount Hill and know it intimately, both the good and the bad. I'm also an amateur historian, geologist, hydrologist, and railroad enthusiast, so I tend to find interesting tidbits about Salem that I like to share. Many of the desirable neighborhoods today would not be so if people knew their history (and geology), while you would scream in agony at the amazing rich histories and lost culture of areas of Salem that are less favored now.

@@SalemOR hmmm maybe job opportunities? Housing that is less than $300k? Places to visit for people who are on the fence on moving to Oregon? I'm trying to think on something you haven't covered already. Lol 😂😁

Love these suggestions! While I wish I could bring better news, unfortunately housing under $300,000 isn't a reality here. The average home sells for $420,000+ in Salem, Oregon.

@@SalemOR Yeah I figured it wouldn't be less than that. Is it just in Salem or are there different cities that aren't as expensive?

Oregon in general is considered a High Cost of Living state (as is the entire west coast). If you go to the rural areas of Oregon, you might be able to find a place under $300,000, but that might even be a stretch now. We sometimes have condos that are closer to $300,000 but they do have HOA fees to consider.
