In this really effed up time right now in our country's history, am I the only one that finds these videos very uplifting? Lol dude you are an inspiration. I plan to tackle some painting the spring, motivated by watching you and seeing the quality of these products. Painting my kid's a '03 Acura TL. I like how you said at the end of this video that if you need advice or technical guidance, hit up the company, they help with that too.
Wow man thanks yea, I ain't no Donald trump but I am Marco colbert and I'm here to make the car scene great again by producing top notch videos to get your rides looking clean 😂😂😂 and yes we have tech support unlike other companies. We will give you 5-15 minutes of absolutely free advice on how to get the project done and what products to use.
"I'm Marco Colbert I'm runing for president we will make the car scene great again, in my presidential term I will be making street racing legal from 11pm to 1am. Hit the gas and slap a** boys"
@@speedokoterefinishnetwork4937 honestly that doesn’t even sound like too bad of an idea. Kind of like those police supervised street racing events that some cities started unofficially doing
I was going to get the cheapest clear coat on Amazon for sealing fiberglass molds, and looked up a youtube video on how to use it and found your channel. I subscribed and will watch a bunch more of your videos before using the product for the first time. Its awesome you have videos like this for the products, especially the low-end stuff used by beginners most often.
I just ordered the speedokote jet black single stage. My Transam is a 1985 but looks just like this one. I’m inspired by your work. I’m going to try my best and see how it turns out. Thanks for your time and help making this videos.
this guy is teaching saving you money turning you on to the best product for the job he knows his shit and he's not an asshole .. i cant wait to use these products . i plan to use some black base and cover it with some dipspade supershift pearls 93 suburban truck is 90 percent prepped just got to pick a color..
Can’t wait just got mine delivered and other things I ordered can’t wait will spray it this weekend and at 30 psi with the HF Spectrum professional HTE I bought to shoot clear and base which I mite buy another one as there on sale for $100 right now
My project/"racecar" is an '87 TA much like this one. I've been thinking of mixing a custom Rustoleum color (I've been experimenting on the last few projects with that and have something I like), but lately I've been debating going base/clear off of speedokote's site... or maybe a combination, rusto as the base and one of the speedokote clears.
@@speedokoterefinishnetwork4937 amen to that!! We had a 2014 odyssey that had been previously worked on. (Less than 12 months ago) the filler had failed and was pulling away. So the shop redid it under warranty. We get it back and you could see huge scratch/sand marks under the paint. 🙈 Shouldn’t take three times to get a great repair from a reputable shop. BUT we didn’t take it back to that same shop again. Lesson learned
Would this clear coat be ok to use over a rattle can 2k clear? I've recently sprayed Martin Senour 2k over a Crossfire black base coat. I didn't have enough of the can 2k clear to do but one good coat. I hate to pay $29 for another rattle can. What do you think?
Great work man. Does it match the rest of the clear or is it much "glossier"? That price is crazy good too. We are talking clear and activator , right?
I just finished jaming parts for a 73 cougar used the speedokote smr 1150 used half a gallon on parts .pretty good i payed 220 canadain good gloss retention. Its a thiner clearcoat but im happy with it check it out
I had a very strange issue with this clear where it did not bond with my base coat and when I rinsed the car off for a wash down it came off in huge sheets. It was a real bummer. I ended up using the SMR 1150 or whatever the more expensive clear and it worked great.
Shop interior looking good painted white. Coming along brother! Hoods like glass, I like a T/A without the hood emblem. Who’s a A-hole thumbing you down?
It might be my imagination but you seem to use fast reducer more often than I expect, is it just the cold weather or are there other advantages? I know that Brian at Paint Society tends to go the other way, uses a slow reducer even when it's colder than you'd normally use it, spot repairs, and even in his garage projects because he says that it lays out better and the extra wet time lets the orange peel smooth out more.
I've changed my method a little. I still used mostly fast for clear, but I've started using more medium lately and slow reducer for base. Brian is right, better to use a slower activator however this has its downsides, runs if not careful, longer periods the paint is tacky so more dust nibs if spraying out side of a paint booth ect ect
Excellent job bro love seeing your videos great work have a question have 63 impala want to paint it black would you recommend jet black single stage or clear stage thank you
I have another question I have seen this video several times and I am amazed with the $59 clear what's the temperature in your garage and if you get your garage warm do you still paint according to the outside temperature
Honestly I use fast activator year around. Sometimes rarely in the summer I'll use medium on an all over but that's rare. Ss1200 is usually my summer clear with the fast activator, still flashes slow enough to where I don't get dry Spots.
I’m worried about paint fumes over night since there’s another business across from... how fast did this dry and any tips for fumes? Will leave the garage door open and fans on overnight if I can
I put media roll Infront of the fan which takes out 70% of the smell and about 98% of the overspray. There's days iv left my car right out front while spraying and got no over spray on the car.
Can I interest you in painting a 94 ford ranger? Lol it’s slammed with a 4 inch frame notch and coil overs. Would be cool to film for the channel and some extra money in your pockets always nice. I live Johnstown P.A
Hey Marco, I’m doing an overall spray with the jet black base and glamour clear. Do you think it’s necessary or very beneficial to use the smr-600 base activator?
@@speedokoterefinishnetwork4937 I think I’m going to order the pint. I already have medium reducer but will be spraying in an open garage. At what temp is the fast reducer needed in your opinion?
I have a good solution for you. Just buy real basecoat. There is 0 point in useing lawn tractor paint on a car when for only 30-60 bucks more you can simply buy real automotive basecoat. However if you really insist..... Yes it can stick however you have to use SATIN kind out of a spray can then let it sit for 2 hours after spraying. Then clear coat
I have a car in the garage that I just got done spraying base coat n it’s been in there for about 4 days I haven’t done anything to it can I spray this directly over it the way base coat is or would I have to wet sand n then clear or wet sand respray base then clear wat steps do u recommend
Yeah ur right I would of gone for the less expensive solution because whether we like it or not, when a debate arises concerning money. First come our kids Bill's and last our adult toys.
Regardless of the outcome, you know you are a dam painter and that's why I myself am sorry if I hurt your feelings in any way shape or form. I'll see in another video bud.
Does this clear have any issue, using with prep and spraying over factory paint? Obviously, it would be idea to respray base, but have several vehicles with just hood, top clear failure...
@@speedokoterefinishnetwork4937 Thanks so much for the reply. I went on a RU-vid binge, trying to decide on product... For a novice, Glamor Clear or the 1150? Oregon humid 60's, thinking fast activator. Each need 3 weeks till safe to cut?
confused. I'm ready to buy, found on ebay 1170, 3/4 gallon and 1/4 gallon activator for $59 + $15. but on speedokote site there is no sign of 1170, also called "simple" clear. can you explain? You are demonstrating 1150.
@speedokoterefinishnetwork4937 how does the car look 3 years later ? Want to order this but like op stated about dullness I want to make sure (I usually dealt with kirker clear)
@@speedokoterefinishnetwork4937 does that mean it’s be better for carrying some pigment? I’d imagine the clear base would be next level up in solids and thickness? I am going to shoot some pigment pearl over the speedokote black primer/sealer and try to skip the black base because it’s just a background. Was thinking of doing just clear over the primer sealer but maybe the clear base is better option for carrying the color shift pigment?
I saw a video from mexico this guy buys a $5 qrt of clear and it's sherwin williams they say it's 2k panel clear. I would like to try it but shipping cost in Amazon or ebay make it more expensive then the clear coat I use
I can promise you no one in the USA is geting clear at 5$ a quart lol. Cheapest you will find is u pol which is I think 43 a gallon, but they sell the activator separately which spikes the price to around 63-67 bucks.. Speedokote does free shipping over 99$ so with this product you get 2.5 sprayable gallons for 118$ shipped to your door.
@@speedokoterefinishnetwork4937 is not in here in usa is in Mexico I have gone to Mexico and purchased it and it's water but small shops use the shit out of it
It will not stick properly. Why not just do a paint job the right way and use real basecoat? You can get black automotive basecoat on ebay for only 100 bucks
Also bro make sure you reduce the smr1100 by 2.5% nothing more nothing less. Sprays way better that way and flows out nicer. It's very thick stuff so it will take you a few tries to get useto but keep at it. Remember it's ok to get a few dry spots on the first coat as long as the it's a full covering coat, don't over soak the clear on first coat like I useto, it's a great way to get glass finishes but Also 10x easyer To get runs. Slow it down a little, go medium wet first coat, then medium wet on the second coat filling in all the gaps and flowing out the panle nicely.
Speedokote refinish network I got the European clear and jet black base coat also to spray my nissan Hardbody . I’m planning to shoot both products with a Harbor Freight purple gun. Hoping for the best 🤣
@@ourpassporttofreedom3987 please dont lol.. The solids content in the euro clear is to high for that gun. That gun really only breaks up low soilds material
Well for starters price is night and day difference. 250$ plus shipping for a 2:1 clear. Iv never sprayed it but I can say I saw the shrinkage test it held up good. At a 100$ price difference between speedokote glamor clear and oh my clear, I'd personally chose speedokote. Here's my reason why, I have yet to find something better in the price range speedokote offers. And if I find something better it's usually a 40-70% increase in cost for something That is Mabey 5-7% better in quality . Don't even get me talking on the smr42, litterally the thickest clear you will ever spray. It's freaking Awsome
@@speedokoterefinishnetwork4937 I just ordered some from Amazon the color blender I'm going to use as a intercoat and Jet black I'm going to use as a base. Is the ultra high glanour clear the thickest gloss paint you guys offer?
@@gasmakingboost Smr42 also has the same uv protection as the glamor clear, same gloss, just a thicker solids content and its not low VOC which I like. Low VOC paints take longer to dry.
This clear coat has real bad die back. No I'm not a newbie I've been painting for over 15 yrs. It maybe good for small projects but not complete paint jobs
How many coats did you do? Did you lay your base with the correct reducer? I sprayed the front end of my Honda with it months ago and still hasn't faded or died back
All of the clears we sell have flex agents. Just some more than others. Best choice would be the ss1210 for bumpers for max durability and flex. My favourite clear for bumpers and multi panle jobs is the Smr135. Best clear coat in the world under 80 bucks hands down. I'll put it against anything.
@@speedokoterefinishnetwork4937 hey my dad and my bf Family is way into cars so I suffer from their honesty and they were way under powered 😉 lol my bad bud I do like that they kept it looking original 😊
@@speedokoterefinishnetwork4937 no they are known as high quality clears at half the price. They use the highest quality ingredients at half the price so no they are not expensive. Super cheap doesn't mean good quality, with tamco I know it is, I'm not affiliated with them I just like good deals. If all Kandy wet wet was still around they would be a good deal but they went out of business
@@eksine this is speedokotes cheapest clear . Tamcos clears are differentially good priced , but not better than speedokote stuff. And to top it off speedokote clears have over 2000 hours of salt water testing and 2000 hours of heavy UV light testing . Very durable clears . Everyone uses different stuff , it's all really down to the user and what they want .
@@speedokoterefinishnetwork4937 tamcos cheapest is $100. They claim they use the best quality chemicals and moisture free reducers etc. I don't think the quality is the same and I've learned to not take 2k manufacturer claims too seriously. Sometimes they lie or don't k ow what they are talking about . If you like this that's fine but tamco is known to be extremely cheap too and it's very popular. I thought about using speedokote before but the cost to know you're getting known quality clear and the cost of redoing the paintjob is expensive. Tamco clears say it has more uv protection. They also claim it has less yellowing. I didn't not know if they overall clear is direct to metal but their primer is. Anyways I'm not affiliated with them, maybe you represent speedokote so you have some bias their. Again never tried it, but again a $40 difference is nothing when it comes to 2k paint except the claims made by tamco is better than speedokote so I would choose that first as it seems a better value
