This week's video shows the making of this rather gourgous and super colourful Art Deco inspired entrance set. The two centre panels will be fitted in the front door and a sidelight panel fitted on either side. Leaving my workshop just after Christmas to my clients home in the Manchester area. These have some serious pop! I can't wait to see them fitted 🕺🍻
What do you think of these?

Pleased to have come across this video! For anyone new to stained glass & looking to find the courage to take on a project. I’m making 5 panels for a front door (2 are just under a meter long, and 3 much smaller ones that go across the top). It is only the second stained glass project I ever make and yes, i know I must be crazy.! 😂 I started by practicing my cutting skills by building the entire first panel using plain window glass before attempting to work with the stained glass. There are 72 pieces in my pattern, all straight lines (thank heavens) A few pieces have sharp points which have given me grief to cut and I’ve had to re-cut them more than several times in order to achieve a clean cut. I’ve also had to learn to use my grozer pliers and because I’m working with plain window glass I decided to challenge myself not to having to resort to using a grinder. As my pattern pieces are all straight lines I found this to be very achievable. I also cut the lines with a ruler and will move onto free hand cutting in time to come.,I am now ready to start building the panel using stained glass (which is smooth one side, & textured the other) and in spite of all my ‘self training’ which is inspired by fantastic & informative videos such as this one, realistically …. I’m bracing myself for many hours spent at the grinder! 😅Needless to say all these baby steps have been really motivating as I have seen progress in my cutting skill over the past 10 days cutting every day for 3 or so hours. Just wanted to put this out there for those who want to take up stained glass as a hobby and who like myself might not be feeling all that confident to take the first steps!

Amazing skill and such a beautiful result. This has been a hobby of mine for years and I still cant get things to go together first time without trimming, grinding etc so this is amazing to watch. 🙌

Always a joy to watch your videos. Are you using a soft lead? It seems your knife curs easily compared to mine. My lead has alloys that makes it stiffer. Beautiful work as usual!❤

gorgeous work!! Is there any major difference between using leading vs using foil around each glass piece then sottering? or is it just the preference of the artist?
@LightLeadedDesigns
@LightLeadedDesigns 7 месяцев назад
Other than the glass cutting they are both super different methods. The biggest difference is the lead came method is much more time consuming and physical as it requires all the cementing and cleaning process 👍

Hey, I’ve been watching your videos for a while now, and I’m sure after 26+ years it becomes second nature, but you truly make it look effortless. I think I told you in a previous post that you inspired me to start stained glass especially after finding my late father’s supplies. Just wanted to say thank you for that. I also wanted to ask you, I see you break the glass with your fingers a lot, and I’ve tried to mimic that, with not so much success. Any tips on that method? Cheers, keep up the amazing work, and keep the fantastic content coming!! Happy Holidays!!

Cheers for watching buddy 👍 regarding using my fingers. I think it's just the finger strength that helps the most rather than technique 🫶

What shape of lead came do you use? U, H, etc? It can all be so confusing but your videos provide such clarity and insight into a complicated process
@patriciablue2739

Is it dangerous to use it?
@LightLeadedDesigns
@LightLeadedDesigns 8 месяцев назад
Yes it's lead it is poisons. These videos make it look like I spend half my life handing lead came. In reality the 'leading together' process is only a very small percentage of time spent. Besides this the biggest concern with lead poisoning is the inhalation of lead dust so the restoration/repair of crumbly old windows is the worst thing you can do in this game. I work with new clean lead and I pretty much choose to stay clear of old windows. I regularly have blood tests at the doctors to make sure my blood levels are very normal and I've been doing it this way for 26+ years 🫶

I don't think I even own any U section lead came it's all various H section I have. Cheers for watching 🤜💥🤛
