This is the story of our good friend Iain's Pontiac build. If you recognise him, thats probably because you've seen our HQ build or our Subarute we did with Roadkill a few years back. We hope you enjoy this video as much as he's enjoying the womp.
Hi guys. I would love to see more of this build. I would certainly watch this on the main channel. And want to say thanks to Davo he does some great work for his friends.
Thanks so much to Marty & MOOG for letting me take over Super Garage with this giant barge of a car, and to all my mates who've helped me put this thing together. I also need to publicly thank my wife and family for sticking by me through all the trials and tribulations of these cars. When it comes to building cars the most valuable thing you can have isn't a big tool chest or unlimited budget - it is the support of your friends and family, so I can never thank mine enough for helping me get this giant hooptie running.
This stopped me in my tracks. I’ve always seen Iain as a joker, a fun bloke. I just saw the serious side of him. Sounds like he has experienced some hardships on deeper levels than given over here. Can we have more of this stuff? It kind of adds to what Super Garage is about from your intro to the project a couple of years ago.
My Dad had some Pontiac shells when we were growing up in the 80's and I always loved the shape of them. This one is definitely a unique combo oof engine and gearbox, and it's turned out so great. That color looks amazing even on film, so I'm sure it's even better in person. Thank-you for sharing your story. I'm so glad your mates were there for you when you needed them. Good friends are worth their weight in gold for real. Yours probably saved your life. I've lost too many mates to depression. Like I always tell people though, leaving doesn't mean it can't get worse, it only guarantees it will NEVER get any better. Thanks for fighting through and finishing this amazing ride. I hope she serves you well for many decades.
I was born and raised in Fresno, where the Pontiac was originally sold. My Grandpa used to sell cars in Selma at the GM then later the Ford dealerships. What a small world!
I've never been a fan of big American yank tanks. But what I am a fan of is stories like this. Doesn't matter what the car, bike, boat or whatever is, the passion someone like Iain has for their project, the love and commitment and time put in is what makes it amazing and kept me glued to the screen. Hope we can see more videos like this in the future.
This is a good idea guy's. You two and your mates should share car stories on here from learning to drive to now. Sorry for your loss in the fire that sucks.
Great presentation guys. Simply beautiful. I can feel for Iain's first trip in the Bonneville. I spent 8 years remodeling a 1981 Airstream trailer. The first trip out in the fall of 2021 was sheer, white-knuckle terror for two hours. Unhitching it at our camp spot never felt so good. Since then, we've taking it on almost 5,000 miles on trips up and down the Eastern US coast. Love our "Belle."
This is a main channel production. When I say production I mean this is epic. The story, the details, edit, and audio. There seems to be a quality to the video or cameras that is noticeable from the first frame. Iain is clearly a comfortable, concise narrator and presenter due to his experiences. Love the car, love the experience, love the journey.
What a beautiful story. There's been plenty of cars in my life that I should have had much more love for, but they fell short. Then, there's these weirdos that inexplicitly have captured my heart. I've regretted selling them every day, but now I understand why. Them, like me were in a tough, trying point, looking for answers to the future. You know what, videos like this help us realize we found them. We may be separated, but the emotion remains.
This car has been lurking in the background since the very first episodes inside Super Garage. The story behind it is so much greater than I could have imagined.
Absolutely love this story. I empathize completely with how building a car can heal wounds of personal tragedies by channeling that anxiety into something creative, and especially! - the feeling of dread in the first white-knuckle drive and how unexpected that is - you all of a sudden realize the car isn't an academic idea anymore, it's emerged from the garage/shed now and has to survive out on the road. I imagine any parent can understand that feeling of wanting to protect their own children, and this isn't far off. I remember, that caught me off-guard too! Well done fellas.
I grew up in this car but my pops had hydraulics with 16 switches it was a dark blue with all sorts of different flakes in it. you have a beautiful piece of art.
I felt every word he said. I am sooo close to the first start of my project. My high school car. I graduated in 86. Last on the road late 80’s. Lockdown happened just after I started the build. I have learned how to weld, wire and 3D print parts to put it together. I can. Only dream of having my wife enjoy the car as she has never seen it all together.
Awesome story. A car is never perfect but the journey & the family/friends is what makes it unique and special. Scars show stories & some have a lot to tell, Sweet ride ❤🍻👍🏼
Straight after the latest Turbos & Temples and this is the same message - Yet again we learn that it's not really about the car - It's about the journey you go on. An excellent little film, which could easily be on a main channel
Once you have the car you want and how you want it the build cost may as well be zero. That’s a bloody nice car with a rollercoaster of a story to come with it.
Thanks so much for sharing your story with all 32 of us. The car is testament to your perseverance, hard work and dedication to a dream, Well done mate and hope to see you in Queenscliff again soon!!!
There was a link posted on the blog while the video was still unlisted, and I was the 25th person to view it. I was wondering where the other seven of you were ;)
Love this story. Its so far from both my own normal tastes and experience of cars, and also what we ever get to see (in the UK) but its a great story, and a really, really cool piece of machinery with a proper soul and character.
I never expected this, what a passionate and epic build story. Iain laid this out as bare and real as it was, thanks for sharing and showing the beautiful result in the end. I really would like to see more other stories like this. Great filming.
Congratulations Iain on such an amazing build. It looks fantastic. Been a long road to get down but now you can cruise the rest of the way and enjoy it. Well done.
So happy to finally see a feature on this car! I've been seeing it in the background forever always wondering. I thought maybe all the "marty's boat" references were about this. Guess I was wrong there! Very very cool build.
That hit so hard in the feels. Going through my own build right now. Being set back by life. This tugged my eyeballs. Congrats Iain and Super Garage for helping him. Yous did good.
Been there, done that brother. There's nothing quite like looking at a pool of cold metal and realizing it was not just your tools, but also your dreams. Glad you made it through! I also have a Bonneville to keep me sane, but mine has two wheels and only 130hp
That is my favorite body Pontiac and seeing someone in another country loving it and building it makes me happy. The story behind it hit me. Then when i saw the happiness while driving and thats an emotion non car people dont understand. Being emotionally invested into a car hits me in the feels. I know exactly how it is.
This guy is brilliant! Resilient, relentless, down to earth and appreciative of his good people around him. You did an amazing job and deserve to enjoy this machine. It looks ace!
When I owned my M38A1 I remember someone saying "If you put $10,000 into the jeep, you will have a really good $5,000 jeep". By the by, love the license plate.
Love this story! I'm building a 1965 Catalina Ventura and im a born chevy guy! Love my 65 and I'm going to 6.0 LS swap it soon. Thank you for the inspiration! God Bless!
We need more car guy stories like this. Sorry for the loss. Mad respect that Ian bounced back and got up again, this car is testament to that and the amazing group of people that go up with him too. Well done ❤️ Good wishes for a healthy new year.
This is seriously one of the best car build stories and super inspirational ones as well. It reaffirms us car-folk that it is rewarding in the end after plenty of difficult times. Thanks again folks. I better get back out there to the shed and work on my project even though it isn't a traditionally popular platform. Therein lies the fun in it for me. Freak out the squares and do what you want to do. Cheers!
Wow... What an epic adventure you've been on to finalise the build. Congrats bro. I can imagine you'd be over the moon. You've done it. Enjoy! How awesome!
Fantastic video, it really epitomises what it is to be a car person, the love, passion, heartbreak and hopefully bliss at the end of a build. The story was told fantastic and had me hooked. Really enjoyed seeing and old school car on here for once.
This was souch a inspirational video ! I´m building my first big project and i´m doing a ls1 5.7 twinturbo manual aftermarket ecu swap to mine 70s Skylark :D
Well done Marv!!! Good to see it out and being enjoyed, following this build I've seen a couple of the ups and downs, good to see the outcome!! It's absolutely awesome!!
I don't often comment on videos... but after seeing this... Just felt I had to...! What an absolutely beautiful car and person. Iain comes across as such a genuine and honest good bloke and he should be super proud of the build!! I fully agree with everything he said in terms of emotions with these cars and projects we all get involved in and has given me a lot to reflect on moving forward. Big love
In Canada, they were called Pontiac Parisienne. My brother owned a 64 Pontiac Parisienne. It was painted Salmon. I loved driving that car. It was a land yacht.
