This is a replication of the "Peanutbutter291" Super Joule Ringer 2.0 "Tuned" LED light. I show it here with my modifications running a 110v 7.5 watt LED lightbulb on 12volts @ about a 1/4 amp. The original idea for this circuit is from Lasersaber. A number of people are working on this circuit. Peanutbutter291 has done extensive work refining it for efficiency and ease of replication.

I admire your work and enjoy your videos. I don't know who would dislike these videos. I have posted 100 videos and had one dislike in three years. Now working on these circuits I get several dislikes within a couple hours. I agree about the dimmable bulbs contributing to the circuit function. The Phillips bulbs don't work as well. I also find more bulbs run more efficient than just one. I just got my sailboat in yesterday and will convert to a joule ringer system for lighting this summer.

The circuit that I show running here doesn't make any noise. I think that Lasersaber's original Super Joule Ringer is better but we could not find the large Metglass toroid to do a replication of that model. Unloaded with the pot turned down-- this circuit draws 4 mA.

of course dragging a generator is a bit silly at sail or by motor, unless you don't care how fast you go, but at anchor, the trolling motor might be a decent source of power as a generator.. ? hey lidmotor, thanks for posting this, and all of your other wacky explorations too, inspiring us to learn more about these subtle forces. I especially like the peanutbutter291 mods, and your mods are icing on the cake. Common parts running cool, high lumen-to-watt ratio, this design needs it's own name.

When I used the inverter it took 1 amp to run one bulb at about the same brightness as this circuit using 3/4 amp. This circuit can be turned down to 1/4 amp and still run multiple bulbs. It is an advantage.

Kyle this one is good one for several reasons. A-----It is quiet. B ---The transistor stays cold. C---- The useable light output vs power spent ratio is good. I wonder how many million 2N3055 have been made and are running things right now. There are better transistors for this but this one works just fine.

Making a copy of favorite video is really good advice because people do pull down videos all the time. The worst one that I lost was of a young piano player singing a great song on her little electric piano. Some people didn't like it so she pulled it. Now it is gone forever. I guess that the negative experience really bothered her because after that she also pulled most of her videos.

No this is not an overunity situation. What we are trying to do is increase the amount of light for given amount of energy used.

Thanks. I've also been able to run the LED bulb on a small 9V battery.

Sounds like a winner, and I do know about 12V's & heat! hehe I happen to have 40 brand new 2n3055's, and this time I made sure they were authentic, I actually bought a batch that were fakes. Hard to believe someone would bother faking such a cheap item, but they did. Sounds like a great farm light for outdoor.

success!!! I replicated the Lasesaber/Peanutbutter291/Lidmotor Super Joule Ringer 3.0 I'm no longer cooking my 2n3055 transistor. Funny thing though, my red LED bllnkes....lol . Yep read package ("blinking LED") Dohhh, Homer moment. Current draw on LED bulb .63A to .83A. CFL not as good 1.36A. Power source 12V 100ah RV battery. It's been running over an hour with no heat problems.

I used two 220 ohm resistors in series. I guess I should have mentioned that. Any resistance around that value will work. The Pot does the tuning. After this starts up you can actually pull off the base resistance and the circuit will still run.

Nice mods and using Dr. Stiffler's method is very cool. We use that stuff all the time in various exciters, so it's great to see it used here too. Will replicate your version of the circuit i'm sure. Say, ever thought of putting some kind of spinning generator thing off the side of your boat while sailing ? Thinking as a battery charger. Wild would be to have the output spin a motor and prop, find a strong water current and gain an OU boat lol, accelerating off into the sunset :)

The transformer is part # 273- 1511. It is a 12v CT 3 amp.

Looks good, will have to give it a whirl. Quiet, too? The double diode from ground back to base may really come into play when you try to use a less durable, higher gain transistor. Gotta love 2n3055 fro their "toughness" though... Thanks for sharing.

I almost named this one "Skippy" in honor of Peanutbutter291. If it turns out that I use it as much as my "Penny" oscillator----I still may call it that.

The ultimate JR P2 The volts reading bulb lit; it had 70 Volts to spare. To be sure that it was the cable producing the HV used a toroid less than 2 inches in diameter, with 17 T. Guess what? In comparison to the Yoke had a nice ringing tone, but its V was higher. First tried a 4 V Comp’s B, then a 6 V; worked just fine. To make winding easier, used a small gauge Antenna's cable, 3,5 mm thick. The outer plastic covering reads: 75 Ohms gas Injected. A TIP 31 Trans, the resistor is not choosy.

I think that the circuit inside the 110v bulb is helping this work somehow. Turn on an AM radio to a empty spot and listen to the frequency with different bulbs or voltages. I'm using a 25 ohm rheostat now to vary the input and light. The bulb is broadcasting at different frequencies as I vary the input power. Very strange.

If you are talking abot an auto On/Off setup just look up "solar garden light circuits". There are several ways to do it.

The good Dr. would probably frown on this use of his idea but it seems to works so why not use it. I have thought about using a water powered genenrator on the boat but it would slow it down some. They do make such a device commercially. Wind turbines and solar panels are the usual method though for natural electrical power on sailboats.

I tried the second circuit you showed with an unmodified screw in 13 watt cfl, and it pulled 1 amp.. So 13 watts essentially. I think these are more pulsed DC transformers instead of joule ringers. I tried a small AC induction motor on the output instead of a light, and it started turning, but since the current only goes one way, it would almost stick.

I've got this working too, but I only have two lamps. One question that comes to mind is that we are turning 12v to 120v just to have the bulb itself knock the power back down to run the LEDs inside. Should we open them and bypass the internal resistors so we could gain more efficiency?

Hi lidmotor, just looking at your modified circuit diagram and is there something connected to the coil somewhere in the middle on your diagram where the capacitor is attached to the end coils? thanks

two questions: first i couldnt find a 440 resistor so i used a 430 & a 10 in series is that ok and second if you didnt have the transformer hooked up the circuit would still show voltage right?

I looked at peanutbutter291's circuit, and before I go off and buy parts, I would like to ask a question maybe you can answer for me. the 3 .047uf caps. Can they be replaced as there equivlent=~15nf and also the 2 .047 with .1uf in par. =~.1uf???? If you can help me with this I would appreciate it. Thank, Jack

does this circuit consume any current on it's own? is it noisy? even "fully loaded" ? do you think this is similar in performance to lasersaber's 2.0 circuit ?

i tryed running this circuit on a program i have called circuit wizard and the red led does not light up. the white led will not light up unless i put a resistor potentiometer between the neg battery and the emitter of the transistor. Help

that's 3.5W absorption, is the lumen output equivalent to the lumen output of a 7.5W, or rather is the output wattage 7.5W?

I made a copy of this video as soon as it came out, but I wish I had done the same for peanutbutter291s SJRC v1.3.. anyone out there get it before peanutbutters disappearance? youtube is great, we can all learn a lot, but as a project resource, any or all of it could vanish at any time. If you see something you think you might need later, as reference, make a local copy.

The ultimate JR P3 The 2N3055 won’t work; it didn’t with me. If you’ve seen an Antenna’s cable, you know it has a copper wire, silver foil covering, and braided wire. What you need to do: solder one side of the copper wire onto the braided opposite side cable for the positive, connect the other copper wire to base with a resistor, the braided opposite side solder it to collector and then add a diode to it. This cable has potentials pass on info. Sorry, don’t get many characters to write on.
