Yusei255 They know that they just mean that they play Odyssey so much that when they’re playing the collection they’re gonna die because they’re used to just throwing cappy
I've never played 64 but have always wanted to, never played sunshine, wasn't too fussed about it but seems fun, and i wanna replay galaxy cause I just loved that game
Never played any of them before since I'm only 16 and missed them (had a wii but never got galaxy) so this is a good deal for me :)! SO excited to play through these in just 2 days!!!
I remember when I was 16, the Gamecube had already been out a few years. They were different times, though I'm glad you and many more from your generation will get to experience these games, especially Sunshine. The Switch era is a great time for video games :)
I never played sunshine and I never finished 64 (Never even knew you can get to the top of the castle) Galaxy is a beautiful game and you will love it. I will finally see why people love sunshine so much. I’m 16 right now so we are in the same boat.
Same here as you,im 16 and never played any of these except like few missions of galaxy and super mario 64 ds , I'm most excited to play sunshine as that's one game that I always had my eye on
My son, 9, got this for his birthday. After playing a few hours on each game he came to me and said, "Dad, how did they make every Mario game so amazing?" Even today they stand the test of time, they are fantastic games and for £43, they've definitely been worth it for me and my family. I can't wait to replay them after he's got through them all.
👏👏👏 Congratulations for contributing to the problem. Nintendo knows they can release games as fake scarcity and people like you will buy it. 🤦 Just buy him a Steam Deck instead and he can play any game from any gen with way more freedom and respect for your hard earned cash. You don't even have to be tech savvy. I can't stand all the BS Nintendo does. They still denying a defective product. 🤦 Joycons.
SM 64 makes me feel so nostalgic, I remember watching my brother play it. I primarily bought for Super Mario Sunshine! Man, I loved that on my GameCube. I’ll be forever holding out for a 2nd edition! Never played Galaxy but I’m looking forward to playing! ☺️
@@itstoasty7089 it's very unique mechanically which is why it is a cult classic and the one of the most divisive 3d Marios (alongside 3d world). Personally I didn't really connect with it back when it launched but I'm excited to try again It also can be brutally difficult despite having a vacation theme
@@Jof- Totally agree. I couldn't get into Sunshine back in the day. It's fun, it is unique, just a frustrating experience. Hopefully I will love it this time around.
same. i'm nostalgic to galaxy but youtuber won't stop playing that music so much the nostalgia is practically nonexistent now. I have to mute and turn captions on to try my hardest to escape it.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 is a hidden easter egg you're unlock after 100% completing all three 3D Mario games.❤💙💚 Super Mario 64: collect all 120 stars ❤ Super Mario sunshine: collect all 120 sun sprites 💙 Super Mario Galaxy: collect all 121 power stars Super Mario Galaxy 2 UNLOCKED 😊❤💙💚💛💜
I’m 15 and used to play galaxy all the time when I was a kid but I loved it so much I replayed 5 times in a row so I’m so hyped to play galaxy and beat it once and for all
I just preordered last night. I’m so excited to actually play 64 myself. I have all the nostalgia from watching my cousin play it when I was really little, and I’m excited to actually be able to play it too!
Me: I don’t know if I wanna watch a review honestly I think I want to try the game myself blindly then see what other people thin- *hears Alex’s voice* Me: nah, I’m watching it
One thing I'm already having a hard time with in Mario 64 is the fact that now if you pull the joystick back to make Mario face the complete opposite direction in a heartbeat, instead he runs a small loop to reach facing that direction, which in some of the tighter platforming parts is actually infuriating!! :O
who else is so used to the original camera on sunshine that the inverted version messes you up? lmao i cant fight the bosses without thinking its the other way around
I knew something was weird about the camera. I had difficulty killing the stupid piranha boss in the windmill cuz of the camera where I never had difficulty before
Sums up my thoughts. This collection is functional. You wanna play the game? Here is the game. But it's hard to get too excited with the premium price and how bare bones it is.
no its not the game is a rom emulated so everything is the same if you play it in a emulator the only thing is that the emulator they use puts the game in 720p
I am so happy to hear that the inverted camera was fixed! (That's actually the sole reason I clicked the video) I tried playing Sunshine a few years ago but the inverted controls were just something I couldn't get past. Which is funny because I played SOO much sunshine when I was a kid.
super disappointed that i can’t set the controls on sunshine back the way they were. i just replayed the game like 6 years ago and the controls felt so good, i played it for about 5 minutes today and had to put it down because it was too frustrating. gunna take some getting used to for aure
Back in the day no one complained at the gba ports of individual mario games ripped from the snes all stars collection, we were just happy to play them on the go and it was amazing to see. Funny how much thins have changed, this is a really good deal imo.
Nobody not really. Tropical Freeze wasn’t a celebration for anything so it didn’t have to have anything insane added. It’s just simply a port. Nintendo knew that not a lot of people had a Wii U so they ported it so people could play for the first time
SGB618 I know; I was talking about how you said “...the games themselves make up for the unmet potential.” In hindsight, I should’ve used a better example like maybe Super Mario Party.
I never played Sunshine and Galaxy so I bought it minutes after they uploaded it to the eShop. And it was cyber-day those days in my Country so I bought it for $40, not bad. 2 days more and I will be playing Sunshine all day.
Bro I was looking at the games I had in my switch case and the game cartridge was in there I’m so confused I think someone slipped it in there wondering how long it would take me to notice but maybe I bought it and don’t remember I’m so confused
@@jacopom.7477 Really? You still have to press the button multiple times to move it to set angles around Mario? That'll feel really awkward with an analogue stick.
So I got my copy today and YES in many areas I do firmly believe Nintendo could have and SHOULD have done more with this to make it a truly definitive anniversary release and true celebration of 3d Mario's legacy, I can't pretend that I wasn't nearly in tears of joy booting this game up. Seeing my favourite game of all time Super Mario Galaxy, in HD was something magical. It took me right back to playing it for the first time all over again. I can finally PLAY Mario Sunshine with a control scheme that doesn't make me vomit, and I have a newfound appreciation for it because of that, but this release marked my first time EVER playing Super Mario 64, the original, and it is something else. Not only seeing a crisp and beautiful rendition of the game the started it all, but also seeing how bloody well this game held up. I was shaking, it honestly had a profound emotional effect on me. It was in many ways the most amazing feeling experience I've had in gaming, and playing Odyssey just this morning before I went to check my mail, playing these four games back to back has been amazing as a die-hard Mario fan.
So excited to replay SM64 but in higher quality, it was my very first video game (with Majora’s Mask, Duke Nukem 64 and the OG Super Mario Bros and Super Mario World following close behind) man, it’s going to be one hell of a nostalgia trip!
I'm super excited about this. Of the three, I've only played 64 (was too late when I became interested in Sunshine, and I just never got around to buying galaxy), so most of this is going to be brand new for me. Glad I'm finally getting to play two of these and replay one of them!
The take about getting 100 hours of gameplay is fresh and justifies the $60 price tag even if old games are old. They are still great games, and did get a bit of an upgrade even while lacking what could have been. Thanks for the review!
I've been thinking about this. You can still buy SM64 on the virtual console for about $10, and SMG for >$30, which means that more than half of the price is for Sunshine, which itself was a players choice title and would have sold for $30. With SMG2, this is kind of a steap asking price.
Thank you for mentioning the downscale model change for Mario in 64 when he's far away from the camera. People never mention it. I mean it's not a big deal anyway but it's super noticeable on this version.
They could have added 64 ds too, the extra levels and characters make it almost a different game, it would be nice for those of us who grow up playing it instead of the original.
Yeah and it's a real shame. DS would absolutely be the best version of 64 if it had analog control (which the original technically does have, but its mapped to the touch screen). Removing some of the sillier limitations (Mario being the only one who can fight Bowser, Mario being the only one who can wall jump, etc.) would not be required but would make it even better.
@@Jmizz2022 Eh, you can if you want, the lack of a good option/hack for analog control makes it not worth playing for me personally. Unfortunately I've looked for but not found a good way to map the touch screen analog controls to a control stick.
I love it. I can't put it down. It's sad that these kind of games are plentiful anymore and there's a lot to be said for the level design, which is generally concise but centred around fun! It's nearly refreshing to go back, especially if you haven't played it in some time. Galaxy is so much better without motion controls. Spin using Y is so much better and makes a huge difference personally, for my own enjoyment of the game.
Huh? You guys aren’t even at 500k subs yet. You deserve millions, this has to be my favourite Nintendo focused channel (maybe tied with Scott but he covers other stuff too)
i grew up watching my brother play all of these games, i never really played them because i was more of a mariokart girl, but i loved watching him complete all the tasks and levels. I just bought the 3D All Stars because of the nostalgia and I want to play these myself!!!
That's probably the one good thing about these, lol. If you've never played them then it's worth it. As someone who has replayed these a lot, I'm still getting it because I have a Mario addiction. But as for most normal people who already own these they have absolutely 0 reason to get this. I almost feel bad for getting this because it's so low effort, but my want of having these on the Switch outweighs the laziness of it. It's such a conflicting game lol
Cheesehead302 Id say get it if you want. It’s legal, it’s higher res for two of the games, and if your Nintendo 64 and GameCube decides to go through obsolescence, you have a backup with updated controls. People rag on Nintendo far too often for not giving them their exact expectations.
@@thelanktheist2626 im getting it, but i think vomplaints here are justified. These are the same games they were before nothing more nothing less, and they're carried by the fact well they're good games. But that doesn't mean the collection itself isnt low effort.
I kinda wish that they remastered sunshine, I feel like they just ported the old 64 so they wouldn’t have to do work on sunshine... like I wouldn’t mind if they just ported the last gen remaster of 64, and Mario galaxy always looked bomb, but Mario sunshine just feels kinda lacking and I feel bad that it’s never gotten the special treatment
Yeah they definitely ported it and it would have been amazing if they fixed sunshine and remastered it, just imagine it in amazing quality and super smooth
I’m going to get it because I’ve never played sunshine or 64. I didn’t get far into galaxy either, but I still play it on the Wii and I’m almost done with it. I’m really excited for sunshine because I love the movement in Mario games, especially Mario odyssey, and fludd seems really good for this.
I'm 29 and played all of these at some point, but was terrible at 3D platformers growing up, I never could get comfortable with the camera angles in 64 and Sunshine. Mario Galaxy, I got for my birthday when I was in high school and never got into it for some reason. I'm looking forward to finally beating these.
3:47 Regarding "Shindou", it's neither pronounced Shindu nor Shindow. It's pronounced Shindo. The extra "u" in Japanese just makes the preceding "o" a long vowel.
This, though to clarify: Japanese letters are all sounds by themselves. They don't get modified very much by what comes before or after, with a few notable exceptions, but those exceptions are usually already accounted for (ティ, a te followed by a modifying i, becomes ti) when writing with english letters. And to be more pedantic, Japanese "o"s always sound like the "o" in bode, and their "u"s always sound like the one in Superman. Just sorta smoosh those two sounds together, quick as you can, and it's pretty indistinguishable from just an "o", as normally pronounced in Japanese, which is probably why it's written that way.
@@thegreatvalamir This is not accurate. I don't know how well you speak Japanese, or if you've studied Japanese linguistics, but I have, and the combination of お (o) and う (u) does lead to a lengthening of the お vowel. This is how it is conceptualized, taught, and said by most native speakers, if not all. The exception to this is verbs, like "omou", because in that case the -u ending is a verb ending separate from the verb stem, so they are pronounced separately. This is why the "ou" in 思う (omou) will not be pronounced the same as the "ou" in words like "arigatou" or "shindou". In the first case, both vowels will be pronounced, in the latter case the "o" will be extended. I do not know any Japanese speakers who would pronounce the "ou" in "omou" the same way as they would pronounce the "ou" in "arigatou". The fact is that outside of verb endings, "ou" is pronounced as a long "o". And there are other cases where sounds can be modified by something that comes after. So both the premise and conclusion of your argument are inaccurate.
I've only played Mario 64 on the 64. I can't wait to get this so I can discover the other two games. I think the only downside I can see is having to pay for a 'full price' game when other collections or ports usually come at a cheaper price. However for Mario's anniversary I'll gladly pay for the nostalgia. Thanks for the review.
Great overview! I do want to point out that Sunshine on the GC did actually have a widescreen mode in the settings- it probably just wasn’t widely used since widescreen TVs weren’t common. It it was still *technically* a 4:3 signal that you’d have to stretch out with your TV’s widescreen mode, but widescreen is there nonetheless.
This will be the first time I ever got to play Sunshine and Galaxy. I’m pretty excited to finally play them. Never had a GameCube or a wii. I used to love playing Mario 64, however. It was the sole reason I got a n64. I remember how special of a game it was to me as a youngster. Such an amazing feeling to see Mario in 3D for the first time! What an important game in history! Can’t believe I almost passed on this collection. Played some Mario64 with my daughter tonight and it looks great!
I sooooooo relate to u!!! Same I went from 64 to switch never had the the others in between. It was special. It was the only reason why I asked for that console. My mind was blown when I saw it 3D. Enjoy the nostalgia!
Mine coming in the post anytime now. Really excited to play Galaxy as I have not played it in more than 10 years. I also had sunshine as way back in the day as a kid but could not finish it so looking forward to that. Could be nostalgic!
I just wonder if the controls in Galaxy still feel as confusing as they did when you are upside or are the up and down controls inverted like they were in Galaxy 2 making it feel more natural.
It would be better if they gave us two options on each game, the first option is to play the very original version of the game meaning you can do the stairs glitch in Super Mario 64 and the graphic is old, and the second option is the upgrade version of the games. so basically the old versions are playable and the new version is playable as well. (I hope that makes sense)
I’m stoked for Mario 64. I played the heck out of it on the 64. Really been wanting to play sunshine lately, I barely touched it and galaxy when they were released. So that’ll be really fun.
Everyone think about it like this You get 3 full fledged Mario games for 60 dollars Playtime is also equivalent to over 120 hours I’m not tryna force you to buy it but damn to me that is a good deal for a person who’s never experienced those titles.
Lol, ikr and people say it’s not worth it... you can play 3 of the best games ever made on the go. $20 per game... considering they also come with soundtracks, you could say $15.00 per game and then $5 for each soundtrack. I’ve heard people who will play $100.00 for the Mario kart home circuit but think $60 for 3 revolutionary games is trash. It’s kinda stupid tbh. I’m looking forward to add the game to my collection. It’s a Shame that tons of orders have been abruptly cancelled though. That’s why you buy from the Nintendo store rather than best buy or Walmart. Though the Walmart discount is definitely reasonable
Especially given even if you do have a Wii with a gamecube card, super Mario sunshine (GameCube) and Galaxy (Wii) still go for high prices and that leaves out Mario 64. So honestly if you got a switch already, this is a steal! I’m getting my nephew his own copy cuz if this is limited than dammit my family will not be without it
Mario 64 were around $10 on virtual console though so that leaves $50 for the other two and considering how old they are, what you could buy the originals for today and the fact that there's not much work added to them the pricetag is definitely steep. I still bought it because I'm thinking that the second hand value will probably pay for it if I don't want it anymore. If it wasn't a limited collectible however I wouldn't buy it unless a sale cut the price in half or something.
3 games over 10 years old with minor upgrades. It’s an amazing deal if you’re younger or haven’t played them but if you’re just looking for one game or none it’s a bit rough
I dunno if i wanna drop $60 for the games that were bare bones remastered. They could have added in the DS version of Mario 64. Literally the same game, but remastered with more content and more characters. Im gonna pass on this one or just play the originals
Man, the games aren't even remastered! They are emulated! Nintendo really can't be bothered to give any care to their iconic franchise! I couldn't believe that, when I saw it on latest Spawn Wave's video...
@@vasarolnik I did hear about it. To me it doesn't make sense to buy an emulated version of the game when I've already owned all of these titles already and I can just emulate them myself. Really, you're buying it for the switch's portability feature
@@rasamasala I'm buying for a) the fact that I've barely played any of these games, b) the portability, and c) it's an official release on official hardware.
$90 in Canada for three basic ports..probably gonna pass as ive played all these multiple times through. Would've loved a proper collection done with all the bells and whistles.
There's this video I watched a few weeks ago that talks about Nintendo removing a mechanic from the Cat Suit in Super Mario 3d World that gives you a boost when they put it into Mario Maker 2, and it's immediately what this reminds me of. The guy in the video talked about how Nintendo has this obsession with tweaking glitches in games even when they are popular mechanics for speedrunners and fans to use. It's hard to fault them for removing glitches, but the guy made a really good point I think. Sometimes faults or interesting quirks in games are part of the reason that they are loved so much.
Picking up tomorrow! 🖤 i love 64 and Sunshine, but kind of fell out of Mario titles by the time Galaxy came around, so I’m extra excited to play this 🥺🖤
xXGhostStalker When you compare the blue coin system in Sunshine to current generation games, you see how lacking it is. No idea what level of progress you are at in any given time. Even just an idea of which worlds still contain a blue coin to collect would be incredibly helpful. It’s an okay system if you play the game normally. If you are trying to actually complete the game, it’s incredibly tedious to track down. It’s not hard, challenging, interesting, or anything fun, it’s just boring. You have to track this outside the game and for those who like to explore on their own, it’s rather punishing because it forces so much backtracking to confirm you nabbed the coin or to have the guide open from the beginning. That takes away from the overall completion experience.
I have only played mario 64 ds . Never had the game on GameCube and never owned a Wii . So when this was rumoured+ announced I was soo excited. Now that I have seen your video I am even more excited to have pre -ordered it and can't wait to experience sunshine and galaxy for the first time.
You know what. Rare Replay gave us 30 games (including 3 Banjo-Kazooie games, Conkers BFD, 2 Viva Piñatas and loads of other great games) as well as a SHIT ton of bonus material including concept art, behind the scenes, cancelled games, interviews, bonus games modes) for THIRTY POUNDS. Nintendo give us 3 games with NO interesting extras and charge FIFTY POUNDS. Ridiculous.
