As much as I appreciate the sentiments regarding "taking world records back" and whatnot, it is not something i'm interested in doing. To have speedrun the game for over a decade, and the effort gone into it all which words can't express there was never a more fitting end to any% for me than getting the 40. While it was by no means an invincible run it sort of concluded the any% saga for me personally which was an ongoing battle to achieve the milestones considered "perfect" at various times throughout the years.
Thanks for running any%, it was a pleasure to watch your 40 attempts last year. Getting the first 40 and getting the wr months later are two completely different goals, its insane it took 10+ months for someone to get the 2nd 40. That being said, you would still have the wr if you worked on your spin jump control more Kappa
Well said Behe. Records will always be broken but at the time you set an amazing benchmark. When is enough enough? I think someone who dedicates so much concentrated effort on developing a skill is best placed to answer this.
Dude this run was ACTUALLY INSANE. The no-hit on botwoon, the 'stun lock???' with the supers on ridley, the air dopple on phantoon, the perfect rng on draygon, and holy POOP the movement. Congrats, you really deserve it.
Oh. Hey Kott. Did you stop running the game? I was one of your rare viewers years ago... PS: Speedrunners deserve so much more views in general. It's just sad.
Amazing run, the movement feels so clean, almost optimazed in every single room, abusing every single mechanic that the game offers to shave time in every place. And is a treat to the eyes to watch this, especially because this game got me into speedruns, i tried to speedrun it myself and know how difficult it is. So congratulations for the sub 41, watching this run just made my day a lot better
I knew you would make it any day now. I can't congratulate you enough. Totally deserved achievement, behe, thanks for the beautiful runs up to this day. And for many more to come =')
Very well done mate, dedication and practice makes perfect. You and Zoast really have created your own bracket, you've both pushed this game so far. Good luck beating this one.
As someone who loves Super Metroid, I just wanted to stop by and say congrats. Just an incredible video to watch. If this speed run was a steak, I'd throw it away because it's just too well done.
Even the game designers are like “dude this getting out of hand.” Another unreal record. Even after decades of play and years of following the speed run achievements, I always enjoy a great Super Metroid run!
Now THAT'S some good spin jump control right there. Took you long enough, but I'm proud of ya, kiddo. Still a few minutes slower than my best time, but don't feel bad, we used to play this game quite alot..
There's so few obvious possibilities for saving time here it's ridiculous. One time he had to stop to wait for a keyhunter, one missed starfall, one clearly missed jump, slight delay in Ridley fight, a bit slow escape after Draygon, Baby Metroid skip with 5 jumps etc. Very minor delays. Ledge grabs, wall jumps and mockballs are absolutely perfect all the way through. Incredibly consistent run all the way to the end. Nerves of steel. Beyond impressive.
I watch these, having taken about 5 hours to complete the game for the first time, I saw how you did it, but I still don't know how you did it! This has been my absolute favourite game since boxing day 1994 when I bought it in Woolies for £15, the day after I got a SNES for the first time!
Everything before Phantoon was just pure perfection and even after than there were very few clear places where you could have done better. Even the escape was great. An absolutely phenomenal run. Congrats man!!!
Congrats Behemoth. It's about damn time you earn that crown back. It will be hard to beat this record. I was watching Oats play SM Impossible, and even he is like DAMN the new record will be hard to beat. I hope people understand how hard it is to go beat this game in under 1hr and 30 mins. Let alone beating the game under 1 hour. But the tier level of skill required to get times under 45 mins its a tier only a few players achieve. Beating the game in the 42s and 41s is hard. The level of skill these guys play at is insane. Congrats on the record, amazing job and now we have the 40s tier level play on Super Metroid Amazing, and a Game Time of 27.
I'm usually not for showing off, but that little bit of showboating you did while waiting on the big Metroid to get his sh*t together really tickled me. I remember the stress of that moment when I was playing this game for the first time when I was young. And HOLY SH*T! That was a work of art! This speed run should be in a gallery somewhere! I think Samus herself would say "I'm not worthy!" P.S. I feel as though Samus should have gotten naked (and wanted to) after a time like that.
I like to think I play this game at a well above average level. Then I watch something like this and realize I don't play this game at all. Congratulations on the sick run!
This really blew my mind. I've never watched a speed run before, and Super Metroid remains the game I'm best at, and...I just...WTF. I had no idea you could skip bosses, and go without so many items (especially the plasma beam and the screw jump.) I didn't know you could beat Ridley BEFORE Draygon. And all of those weird tricks you did, especially to beat those karate bastards in lower Norfair??!! I CAN'T. I remember how excited my friend and I were when we finally beat it fast enough to see Samus in her bathing suit. HahaHAAA!
Truly if Behe just casually got back into any% he'd get this lower really quickly. 100% is a completely different beast, but the repetitions in general and the basic commonality would translate over. Just watching his streams recently you can see more refined general movement, better door transitions, and small strat improvements that is noticeable to the trained eye compared to back then during this era. I know it's the most exhausting category, but damn it would be captivating to see.
Absoloutely fucking insane. It's a fact you have officially beat the game dude. You're the King Of Metroid Officially, it's a shame this is the end of any% but maybe we can look forward to the 100% ?
Been checking your channel obsessively, waiting for this record to fall! Knew you would do it. Great running Behemoth! Your LN escape was incredibly fast. What was your favourite part?
