Tool Assisted Speedrun
This is an improvement by about 25 seconds to the old Glitched TAS I have on my channel. This run uses extreme glitches to skip most of the game, the final time is still 00:12 at the end of the game though, and the amount of collected items is 6%.
Tool Assisted - these games are played using a emulator at super slow speeds and save states. The goal is to provide entertainment by showing off game glitches and beating the game as fast as possible.

The music that starts at 7:30 mixed in with the echoing rhythm of a power bomb will equal the start of a badass remix I would purchase.

The method is called shoulder-pumping and is achieved by hitting L and R buttons every other frame. It results in a small speed boost.

I'd say 2-3 weeks of active work. But I was so used to TASing this game when doing this run, so a lot of it went really quick. Tourian took the majority of the time, because it is a monster to optimize.

The gate glitch at 9:37 and getting the X-ray scope were the coolest parts!... incredible TAS. Is it possible to get 6% without tools, or would it be humanly impossible?

Shoulder pumping can be done on an autofire enabled controler that has turbo at 30 hz. It presses the button 30 times per second or every other frame which is the fastest that you can press the angle buttons for shoulder pumping. A good controler would be the super advantage, alternatively you could use a SN Pro Pad, but not as effectively since it's turbo is 25 presses per second. It would work for the PAL version probably.

@Nightmare200X He just leaves when your health reaches either 29 or 24 (can't remember which), it's actually how the fight is supposed to go (he also does leave if you manage to shoot him 100 times, but that's obviously not what the developers expected you to do when you first played the game).

Agree with Cpadolf0, infinite bomb jumping is well within the scope of what is humanly possible; I.E. I've bomb jumped consequtively for well over two minutes straight (longer than anything required for almost every SM Hack), and I've also done all of the underwater wall jumping segments with no tool assistance (See SM:I, I've played the whole hack with only savestates, I'm working on a stateless/slowdownless run atm) Underwater single wall jumping, SuperShortSS, inf. diag bomb jumps require TA

Yeah, you hold right, then at the precise right spot you press left for one frame then continue to hold right. If done at just the right place then you will enter the room while actually moving in to the left (due to the precision needed this can probably not be done unassisted).

@Dorkster81 it means hes playing it on a computer at frame by frame speeds and savestates to go back to the exact frame he messed up on. Then he speeds it up to make it look like it was play PERFECTLY. :)

@CookieMcWeaksauce I've answered all of this stuff before, and I could keep answering them but as soon as it disappears from the front page (and sometimes even before that) people will keep asking. So I stooped answering every single questing like I used to. Also I don't have an infinite amount of time on my hands, and I prioritize not letting ignorant statements going unopposed higher than answering various questions about me run that has probably been answered somewhere else already.

LOL; it also helps that you aren't terrible at TAS. People say it requires no skill; while its true you don't have to be good at the games themselves TAS has a sort of finesse to it all its own. I know my RR count would be many times yours on runs. Hence why I don't TAS.

You need to get stuck in a wall, and crouch down. After that just use the X-ray and start turning around, and while turning around release dash, which will inactivate the X-ray. And if you released dash at the right moment you will be forced to stand up after which you can crouch down and repeat.

When mockballing if you press the direction oposite to your moving direction, and then immediately after that start holding in your moving direction again, the morphball will "boomerang" backwards, which is how I get stuck in the door.

Yeah, in order to get a faster time (49:23 is the fastest) you have to wait frames in the intro to add lag and get better steam patterns, or just try to add a lot of lag in the door transitions. Doing it like this is several frames faster in realtime because of that.

at the beginning hitting the tail of the boss gives more dmg so you can end this faster for maybe 00:11

I've always wondered... Since you're playing in slow motion and reloading savestates, how long is the "real world" time it took to do this?

You can do some of this stuff unassisted, so lower than 14 is possible. I don't know how low though, but not 6 at least.

I don't know really. Maybe somewhere in the range of 75-100 hours. But that is just a guess.

I don't actually know that by heart. But it shouldn't be too hard, just place the next bomb as you are close to passing the previous one.

Ive always wondered why, in the room where you get the morphball you shoot the block and MB under instead of jumping over the platform, it would seem quicker. I'm not a speedrunner at all and i accidentally did the jump over that platform in my video, i hope you know what i mean. it isnt faster?

@Cpadolf0, Can you tell me how many frames exactly I need to wait in between bombs for infinite bomb jumping? I've tried and I just cannot do it. I want to TAS this game at least a little, maybe not a full game run, but I need help with that little bit. Most everything else, single wall jumping especially are easy for me, even in full time.

So I still don't really understand the game-breaking glitch here. I guess the x-ray climbing alone isn't too complicated, but the fact that going through the ceiling some twenty times allows you to access Tourian is bizarre, and the fact that you need to die and reset for some save-abuse glitch is even weirder. Is there a relatively simple way to explain this?
