This is a treat for me because Kevin is my brother and listening to him talk about this is reminiscent of our Dad, who is no longer with us. They are/were both perfectionists of their craft. Kevin, Dad would be so proud!

I used Ron's plans as the basis of my workbench 8 years ago. I absolutely love it. I made modifications for my model of table saw, router plate, and a dropped section my miter saw slides into with storage underneath. I also made a removable infeed table for the miter saw to handle 16' pieces of trim.

Interested in the weight of the table with the formica top - I'm finishing my garage, then my next project is a Paulk bench - this looks like a good option for keeping a clean (and bright) workspace. Beautiful work!
@kevincriswell7533
@kevincriswell7533 4 года назад
Thanks Eric. The Formica adds very little weight to the bench, maybe 3 or 4 pounds I’m guessing? My bench is heavy as I use three-quarter inch MDF for my top, wanted a very smooth surface for the router table. If I was building a portable table, of course I would not use the MDF, I would use plywood. And you’re right, I cannot believe how much the white Formica brightened my shop!

I was wondering if Kevin used the 22mm holes with the 96 mm on center or another drill pattern and size? I noticed that he is using a Kreg clamp and wondered if he is using 3/4 bench dogs
@kevincriswell7533
@kevincriswell7533 4 года назад
Don Giles, I did lay the holes out differently for my needs on this table, but this is the old pattern with 20 mm holes on 4 inch centers. I use the 20mm UJK stubby bench dogs for cutting up to 1 inch thick sheet goods (allows clearance for my Festool track saw) but I have the super dogs if I ever need to cut extra thick material.

Can anyone explain how Kevin setup the double t-track insert? I bought the track and now realize the track is 3/4" thick, so if you do a flush dado you'll have to cut through the MDF. I assume I can add a 3/8" backer under the table but I wanted to see if Keven had some other setup that I am missing.
@kevincriswell7533
@kevincriswell7533 3 года назад
Tim, you’re exactly right. I simply put a half inch backer board below the MDF. That closed the bottom of the track, and then I drilled three holes along the length of the track to attach t-nuts with knobs.
