I do powder coating and find the 3M 6900 full face respirator is pretty comfortable. I wear it 8+ hours per day and don’t get headaches. Plus you can get dust filters or vapor filters for the same mask. Love your content!
@paulhe1195
@paulhe1195 Год назад
I've done powder coating for the government, and a little oven cooking and sand blasting,, but I've never done sand blasting with dry ice, now I wanna do both my 89 VW, and my 02 Ranger, and I agree with ya Jeremy Little, the 6900 by 3M, probablythe best mask, I wear another regular 3M Mask with the 6900, but i still get shit in my nose/lungs, but as is life, I love the content too Sarah, I wish I had the time to fix my cars like you, but I work too much, guess I should work less, lol
@djeity
@djeity Год назад
Absolutely recommend the 3M 6000-series full face respirators; they are comfortable and you can interchange filters depending on whether you just want dust or also VOCs filtered. You'll probably want the 6700 or maybe the 6800, they are all the same except for the size. 6700 is small, 6900 as recommended by the others here is the Large size which, even though you're not an elf, will almost certainly be too large for you simply because you're a woman. I suggest visiting a PPE store and trying on the various sizes, don't try and mail-order this.
@JayLepisto

As I have suggested in the past, this is the mask for fiberglass and dust, work in attics and crawlspaces, as well as spraying lacquer and other finishes. The cartridges can be swapped for various types of protection.

Sarah, When I worked in the pharmaceutical industry, we had a set up for Dusty or hazardous materials. It was called a Racal protective suit. It had a battery powered fan with HEPA filter that you wear around your waist. A tube goes from the pack to the helmet. The helmet took the filtered air from the fan, and blows it down across your face. The helmet has a face shield, and a Tyvek strap with air holes at the bottom, where the air exits. It called a laminar flow hood. I looked it up just now, and Racal was bought by 3M. The line is called 3M/Racal now. Hope you like it. Gary Silver City, New Mexico

Sarah, Item the first: the left side of your nose needs a bit of dry ice blasting 😱. Item the second: 3M makes a respirator that has a full face mask. It takes air in through a waist pack filter and sends it to the mask through a hose. Item the third: hit the bottom of Ragnar with the dry ice you have left. Keep the aspidistra flying! Paul

Great that you finally got into blasting! Done a lot of sand myself but it's really all the same. Corn cob is another favorite... but I did body work and have sandblasted whole cars and never had any problems with that so called heating of the metal causing it to warp thing. And it is very satisfying to do... at least it was for me. PS... sand blasting is WAYyyyy cheaper. And Harbor Freight's little under $20 hand held blaster works surprisingly well.

Love this video, Sarah! I learned about dry ice blasting some years back, using it to take graffiti off of a stainless steel railroad passenger car, which it did perfectly. Our vendor had the pellets but also had a 2nd machine that used a solid block of dry ice to draw from. An internal ice shaver made dry ice shavings from the block, which are a bit more aggressive than pellets. The pellets wouldn’t touch corrosion but the shavings did, easily removing light corrosion along with any other close coating. Could be an option. Also, have you ever considered laser rust removal? Not sure exactly how it works but it might also be an option for heavier or deeper rust. Great videos, I also learn new things every time I watch - thank you!!

Awesome! I've never seen dry ice blasting done, so it's really cool to be able to see how well it works. As far as respirators go, I've only ever used the half-face kind 3M, when Iused to do drywall work. I've heard their full-face styles are wonderful, but I'm not familiar with wearing or fitting them. You could see if the paint place next door might have a recommendation. They may even be able to help you fit it. A properly fitted respirator should be relatively comfortable to wear for at least 6-8 hours.
