Today I did one mile reps in the Adidas Takumi Sen 8, Adidas Adios Pro 3, Nike Alphafly and Nike Vaporfly Next % 2. Three of the four shoes impressed, with one falling behind. Which Super Shoe brought the heat on this cold day?

Its interesting seeing you get the fastest time in a high stack marathon racer. I saw one of the runners from the Run Testers also get a similar result with Prime X or Alphafly being the fastest on 1 mile repeats.

Yeah, I was surprised by that result. I think that the Vaporfly would have beat it if I ran in that shoe earlier. But I wanted to compare the two Adidas (LightStrike Pro) shoes back to back and then the Nike (Zoom X) shoes back to back. The AP3 if definitely an assistive shoe. It helped me to keep pushing hard towards the end of mile. I just can't get the responsiveness that I'm looking for from the Alphafly. I know that shoe works for a lot of people but it just doesn't work for me. I have not attempted to go all out in the Prime X Strung. I don't think I'd want try it on the track and risk rolling my ankles running hard around curves in that shoe. The PXS is great for running long and fast in a straight line. It definitely gives you a nice assistive bounce and roll, but it's a little heavy for me to race in. I find that shoe to be great for long runs and marathon training. But I want a lighter shoe on race day. Especially if the course has a lot of turns, then I'm leaving the PXS on the shelf. One thing that the PXS does amazingly though is going up hills. There is so much stack in the forefoot, the angle that you get while running on your toes up a hill feels like it cuts the grade of the hill in half. You run up hills like they are nothing in that shoe. It's kind of a crazy sensation. Like, I know this hill should be a lot harder but it's not. I really liked the performance of the AP3 over the Marathon and Half Marathon distance. I haven't tried it in a shorter race than that. I feel like the supreme lightweightness of the TS8 or the more propulsive feel of the Vaporfly would win in the end over the AP3 in a 5k. I have a lot of races to run this year. I'll definitely give both the TS8 and the AP3 a shot at the 5k distance in a real race and see how they do.

I agree i had a pair of the Alphaflys and returned them cause they felt so unnatural and slightly uncomfortable. Im loving the adios pro3. I have the prime x strung which i have not ran in but feel pretty good.

There is no doubt that the Alphafly has some amazing technology it in. But I think it has strayed too far from a normal running shoe. I don't like how thin it is in the mid-foot and the air pods just don't work for me. I'm finding the Adios Pro 3 to be a more stable and comfortable alternative to the Vaporfly. I'm curious about the Prime X Strung. Let me know your thoughts on how it compares to the Adios Pro 3 once you have some miles in it.

I have run two marathons in alphaflys v1 and they went very well. For me they are not as fast as Vaporfly but they are the best in long distance, However I havent tried Adios Pro 3 yet and maybe they are a perfect combination between Vapor and Alphafly. One more great video!

Thanks. I was proud of this video. When I was done, I thought to myself, “I’m getting the hang of editing a video.” Haha. Still very new to this. I’m 6’4’’ 220. I think my size might be the reason why I don’t get on well with the Alphafly. I know it’s a crazy efficient shoe. However, I feel like I compress the air pods too much and it kind of bogs me down. I know that shoe is great for a lot of people. But it doesn’t seem to work for me. I’ve got almost a foot of height and weigh 105 pounds more than Kipchoge. Perhaps my weight exceeds the air pods intended weight load. Haha. I find the Adios Pro 3 close to the Vaporfly in speed. It’s not as explosive, but it’s more stable for me over longer distances. However, it is also heavier than the Vaporfly. I really like the Vaporfly for running fast, but the Adios Pro is better for me for long races.

@@runwithsean I got it. If you didnt like Alphafly v1, you have better not to think in v2. For me, Nike turn an amazing, relatively lightweight, propulsive long run shoe into a bulky, heavy and firm ordinary shoe. Iam so disappointed even so I am gonna race a marathon in 14 days and I might go in my old vaporfly. About Adios Pro 3, Iam sure I will like them for everything you told us. They must be an awesome long run Racer!

Hey Sean, just came across your channel. I wondered if you might be able to comment on how the Takumi sen 8 fits compares to the adios pro 3? Interested in picking up the pro 3 but not sure on sizing. Thanks 😊.

Hi Sam. I wear a 12 in normal shoes. I go for a 12.5 in most Saucony shoes as well as Nike. If a running shoe runs a little bit long, I can fit in a 12. I want to have a little space between my toes and the front of the shoe and in most Nike's and Saucony's I need a half size up for that. The Takumi Sen 8 was the first Adidas shoe that I purchased. I got that in my normal 12.5 and found it a little long on me. Ever since then, I've been getting Adidas shoes in a 12. I find Adidas shoes to run a bit long and narrow in the toe box. That is the case with both of those shoes. The Adios Pro 3s fit me perfectly in a 12. I just ordered a second Sen 8 at a discount in a 12 as well. So perhaps go a half size down from what you'd usually wear in a Nike. Unless, you have a wider foot. Then you might want to order your normal size to get a bit more room in the toe box.

Adios Pro 3 feels much better than never imagine. I doubt seriously between Vaporfly and Adios Pro 3 for my next marathon. The last 4 maratons I wear Vaporfly but on the next marathon perhaps I give the opportunity to Adios Pro 3. Is fast, elastic, comfy. Super comfy.

I love the Vaporfly for shorter distances but was concerned about the stability of that shoe over a full marathon. I recently wore the Adios Pro 3 for the NYC marathon and the shoes felt great for that. They get me close to feel of the Vaporfly but with more stability.

Thanks. How a running shoe works for each person can be different based on their running form, weight, foot shape, foot strike, etc. Just because a shoe looks great and is expensive doesn’t mean that it will work for everyone and some shoes definitely punch above their weight class price wise. It’s all about finding what works best for you.

Thanks for your comparison review! Been looking for a running shoe for 2.4km - 3km physical run test. Which shoe would you recommend for a novice to intermediate runner for this short distance, while trying to clock your fastest PB
@runwithsean
@runwithsean Год назад
I really love how light weight the Adidas Takumi Sen 8 is. I can really turn up the pace over short distances in that shoe. It does have a narrow upper though and less stack than a lot of other shoes. That lower profile makes it more natural feeling through your stride. If you answer the following questions, that could help me to think about what other shoes might be best for you. Are there any shoes that you’ve tried already that work well for you? If so, which ones. Do you have a wide or narrow foot? Have you run in any carbon plated shoes? If so, which ones and how did they work for you? Do you know if you are more of a heel, mid foot or forefoot striker? The Nike Vaporfly 2 is also on sale a lot of places now that the 3 has come out. I love that shoe for many distances. It’s really designed more for longer races but I still find it to be very propulsive and help me to run fast over shorter distances as well.

@Run With Sean thanks for replying on my question. Currently I'm using the Nike pegasus 7 and it works well for me. I've yet to try any "supershoe" with carbon plating. I'd say I'm more of a mid to forefoot striker

@runwithsean Год назад
@@byaku92 That's a short distance that you are trying to run a fast time in. So you don't need to spend a lot of money for a max stack carbon shoe at that distance. I'd look more for a light shoe that gives you some nice bounce and helps you maintain a quick cadence. I was really impressed with the Hoka Mach 5 recently. That's a non-plated shoe that I was able to run very fast in, but also would serve you well as a daily trainer at lower paces as well. It's also a very comfortable shoe to just walk around in. I just ordered the New Balance Rebel V3 for more than 50% off. I really like the V2 of that shoe and know that the V3 will be a good speedy versatile trainer as well. It's light weight and has really bouncy foam. If you can find the Adidas Takumi Sen 8 on sale, I think that might be my favorite shoe to run fast in over short distances. The Nike Streakfly would also work well for short distance speed. But I haven't personally run in that one to give my opinions on it. If you do want to try a carbon shoe, see if you can find the Puma Deviate Nitro Elite on sale. The V2 of that shoe came out recently, so the original is discounted a lot of places online. That is another super light shoe. It has a tight, thin, race upper, and a carbon plate in it. But it is not as stiff as many of the other carbon shoes out there. It feels more minimal and natural to me. I took that out for an 11 mile run today and they felt great on that run. I was able to turn up the pace even later into the run. The Nike Vaporfly V2 is also an outstanding shoe if you pick it up on sale. But it might be overkill for that race, and it's not a shoe that I'd want to walk around in or use for anything else other than racing. There are a lot of good choices out there. So I'd see what you can find on sale and what you think would be best for you but in summary, I'd consider the following shoes: - Adidas Takumi Sen 8 - Nike Streakfly - Hoka Mach 5 - New Balance Rebel V3 - Puma Deviate Nitro Elite V1 - Nike Vaporfly Next % V2

@Run With Sean thanks for such a detailed sharing! I think I'm leaning towards the adidas takumi sen 9 or 8 from what you've described so far. Now I'm gonna find a day to head down to my local store to find the right size! Thanks again, been really helpful!!!

@@byaku92 Nice. I don't think you'll be disappointed in that shoe. The 8 and 9 are basically the same shoe. So if you can find the 8 on sale, I'd go for that one. Adidas shoes tend to run a little long. I'm a 12.5 in most running shoes but I wear a 12 in Adidas. So I might go a half size down from your normal size.
