I built one of these for a friend many years ago. Lovely build, and the usual outstanding cinematography, editing, and musical scoring. Thank you so much for sharing your passion and talent with us.
My Sinbad was free flight. It wasn’t a super Sinbad. My dad and I built it...60 plus years ago. Dad is gone now and I cannot remember where the plane went. The memories linger! Oh how they linger.
Very much my exoerience, the smell of the dope, fitting the bands. Towed her uowind in Windsor Great Park for first launch in the early 60s, ,she rurned and it was a good half mile chase to recover, great.
Same. Our first flight was during a relative lull in the Santa Ana winds we get in southern California. Note that "relative lull"- the upper level winds were a good deal stronger than we realized. After the towline droped, lady Sinbad wnet her own way, out towards Costa Mesa, maybe all the way to the beach. We didn't think to put a name or contact info on the plane. I just hope whoever found it treated it like a gift of the skygods.
If I ever get over to your part of the world, John I know you'll be easy to find. You'll be the guy with a balsa wood forest growing in your back yard.
The Super Sinbad was my first kit built glider, circa 1967ish. Ambroid glue, tissue paper and airplane dope was all I had back then. Had her trimmed to fly lazy circles, free flight, after a running tow. She would often catch some lift and then the chase would be on, HA!
Posso ver teus vídeos um milhão de vezes e sempre fico encantado do mesmo jeito da primeira vez. Seus planadores são SENSACIONAIS =) Obrigado por compartilhar =)
i have build many powered Modelaircrafts and switched now to Gliders ( i started in 1975 with an Graupner Amigo) my first glider i buld last year was a L-55 Spatz and my next one is the Super Sindbad. Inspired by your amazing Videos. Thanks for your Inspirational Work.
@@SlopeRCGliders What is, in your opinion, a very good strategy to make the most air floatable aircraft (not a baloon/blimp) that can support a 1 lb payload, with the least horizontal dimensions?
Berkeley Models' beautiful kit as designed by the late Henry Struck. It is really a wonderful model. Congratulations. I hope you realise you are a very privileged modeler, having that beautiful and fantastic flying site. Most modelers worldwide don't have that luxury.
Beautiful. Perhaps trans finishes make planes look more delicate than they in fact are. I remember many years ago, transparent covering materials weren't so easy to get, and yellow tissue seemed to be the colour of choice if you wanted to use traditional cellulose dope and sanding sealer etc. Trans finishes such as this really add a dimension to an excellent build like this; after all, as they say, "if you've got it, flaunt it"! Nice one John. ⭐👍
Stumbled across your video . Love those vintage gliders . Really nice job . A lapsed aeromodeller might have to dig out the scalpel ! Is that Perran beach in the background ?
Love the design and build, softly soars in 6-8 (did I hear you say) beautiful experience. What was the photographer's kit to track, zoom and follow focus like that?
I have always enjoyed your videos and still have to compliment the videographer and editor of these elegant presentations. Does the video editor chose the music for the sound? I have a high opinion of everything presented. It's always consistent and gratifying to watch!!
John, You seem to walk around a lot, as do I when flying small 3D foamy. Are there any videos of you tripping and rolling down the slope? I really enjoy watching. Thanks
I do fly just as many gliders with ailerons, but for flying in light winds you just can’t beat the simplicity and lightness of a rudder and elevator model. When the wind picks up I always swap to an aileron model but they tend to be faster and harder to get good footage of. Flying without ailerons on a lovely day is both relaxing and challenging.
Hey John, another great & lovely flight with this awesome beautiful glider. Congratulations! May I ask you for a direct contact in order to ask you for some build support? Looking forward hearing from you. Best regards, Tom.
Can't imagine our younger generation ever being motivated enough to build a traditionally constructed model like this...Or even capable TBH..What does that say about modern society of today?
It says this generation has failed their children. Ya gotta get 'em when their young, like religion does. If you'll notice, today's 5-year-old, is no different from one from 50 years ago. That's when you start the indoctrination. (Evil laugh).
I think it might say more about your perception of the younger generation than about them. I have seen many young folks work on incredibly ambitious projects, but they are probably more likely to spend a few hundred hours developing an app or game than making a physical project.
@@SlopeRCGliders Thanks John. I'm tempted to do the same to reduce weight. Time to get the measuring tape out. Might fit in the car without removing the wife's head.
Could we possibly talk you into doing a "How To" video showing step by step how you cover under-cambered wings. I email the producers of a couple types of covering and basically got the answer from one of them who said, turn it into a flat bottom wing.
I haven’t found an easy way to cover the undercamber and still find it nearly impossible. Having a larger area to stick to helps, so capping strips on the ribs helps. So does using Balsaloc on the wood.
Try and build it nice and light. It will fly so much better, and because it hasn’t got as much momentum, it will survive any impacts better that something that is heavy and over-engineered. There is no greater pleasure than flying something you have built yourself!
Such precise control. I've noticed that a lot of your ships are rudder and elevator only. Any tips on your set ups for this. And the Sinbad is super cool. Thamks
Thank you. On a calm day, I do like flying with just rudder and elevator as it keeps things simple and light. I do spend a lot of time getting the control throws precise and crisp with no slop in the linkages.
hi john congratulations for your models. I shouldn't but I'm a little jealous of how you manage to get them into your hands as if they were trained birds. Pls could you tell me the weight of your SSimbad. I built one myself but it's probably a brick compared to yours. Thanks
I used to fly my gliders at cape Blanco on Oregon's coast. I say used to until the faa has over regulated flying in "their air space" under the new faa regs. I am so discussed that I SOLD ALL my RC planes and equipment and got out of the hobby and flying TOY AIRPLANES. What a SHAME. I flew slope gliders at the coast. No wind no fly how can be a threat to anyone or anything. I am very, very bitter at the government take away or make it very difficult to fly my "DANGEROUS DRONES OFF OF CLIFFS. SHAME ON THEM😡😠👾
I normally cover all my models in the cheap unbranded stuff from Hobbyking but this one is Oracover. I think it’s transparent lime green but it looks more like yellow.
@@SlopeRCGliders I'm sorry I don't speak english! could you tell me which servos you use (make / model) and which 4 cell battery you use (make / model) grateful
